That is called weight doping. On Zwift, they actually throttle you and will even ban you if you consistently have outputs that exceed accepted norms (measured in wt/kg) Watts are watts. A 250 and 150 pound man will travel at considerably differently speeds if both output 300 watts. But let me tell you, if a 250 lb man changes his weight in the settings to 150 lbs, you got a stew going.
When I push it I finish in he top 1ish percent on peloton and my best is just over 12 miles on a 30 min ride. what you are seeing are dorks cheating. don't sweat it. I've already accepted that 1st overall is never going to happen. one there will always be plenty in better shape than me but also there will also be cheaters. it's sad.
Hello. I’m new to the Peloton Game. Am I correct in assuming the correct hashtag to follow in order to keep up with fellow TMB’ers is #lechisfat?
Y'all inspired me. haven't been feeling frisky this week. light ride yesterday planned same today until I saw y'all doing a kendall live ride. did a different kendall climb ride but set a new 20 min PR.
My 20 minute PR is 335. I have no idea how I put that up. 255 today killed me. I’d probably piss my pants if i tried to hit 335 right now.
The best is yet to come. I was at 339 watts 20 mins average when I was 41. Cycling is truly a middle-aged man’s sport unless you were born with horse lungs like professional cyclists. You are entering your peak years.
Damn Bike+'s calibration is no joke, significantly harder than our original bike. Probably going to reset the PRs. Probably the #1 reason to get it if you don't know how to calibrate yourself.
I wonder how realistic it would be for them to eventually make it so you can access the classes 100% without music. I know you can select to turn the instructor louder, but it’d be really nice to somehow have the instructor by itself then either listen to my own music on my phone or even sync it to the peloton itself.
When I first got my bike I thought was the point of the spotify link. when I found out it was just to add songs from the workout to a spotify playlist I was pretty disappointed
One would think that would be really easy. Peloton is opting to follow the Apple path rather than the Android path, despite Peloton being built on an Android platform. I think it will always be a more closed ecosystem. John Foley, founder and CEO, has said as much. They could allow all kinds of integrations from Netflix to Zwift to streaming TV, but I think they want customers taking classes as provided. Even scenic rides are a casualty here. It’s the right strategy for the business and most customers, but I wouldn’t hate it if they loosened up a little bit.
Yeah having the option to stream a game on the tablet or something while riding would be pretty cool too. I really like the classes so I’d still do those just as much as I do now. It’d just be nice to have a tad more flexibility when it comes to the music I have to hear.
You can jailbreak/ hack the tablet. Don’t know how easy it is and I’m sure it voids your warranty but you can.
Ok catching up here. I’m way out of my depth and have no clue about anything cycling. My dads 65th and retirement is coming up soon. He bikes with a group 1x a week but I know he likes the concept of Zwift where you can ride/race and I believe even through actual real (virtual) areas. I wanted to get him a set up where he could do this at home. I know he has a mediocre road bike now but will upgrade to something fancy at retirement. What do I need to know about his current bike to make sure it would work with what I get him? Also if there is a good set up for say $1500-$2000 that’s what I’m looking to spend. Thanks.
Wahoo Kickr is pretty much the gold standard in indoor trainers. https://www.wahoofitness.com/devices/bike-trainers/kickr/buy It automatically increases & decreases resistance on the trainer/bike while paired up with various apps while riding simulated routes (some even mimicking real life cycling bucket list rides). It has an entire ecosystem that can be expanded on. A very high powered fan to keep cool on long indoor rides, Kickr Headwind. Kicker Climb will raise and lower the front fork of the bike to mimic real life climbing which believe it or not, can fine-tune muscles as when the road pitches up, different muscles come into play and are more prominent. They also make a “desk” that is very handy of rides longer than an hour as it can shelf things that one will need for a multiple hour session i the saddle. I live in Dallas, and had a goal of doing major climb rides. Hard to do train for in Dallas when to mimic the watts, I would need a very long straight away to keep a high wattage sustained for a long time without breaks (stop lights, stop signs) or a long sustained climb (all climbs in and around Dallas can be done within a couple of minutes). This trainer and Zwift app were major contributor to me no only completing but also shattering my goals for the climbing rides. Look at the specs closely, there are a handful of bikes that will not work with the trainer and at the time of my purchase, I had to buy a cassette to accommodate my bike on the trainer as my gearing would not match.
As a follow-up ^, the Kickr trainer & Zwift app where integral to accomplishing these rides and they most likely would not have happed without them. Sub 5 hour 100mile ride, only achieved by major endurance and ability to sustain high wattages. You can not properly train for that in most cases as road conditions will not allow. Being able to do 3-4 hours in the saddle on an indoor ride that does not bore you to death is so helpful. Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Forest. First big climb attempt, started at 9k feet elevation and topped out on the summit of a 14k’r and as able to coast down the other side and the other side with almost 0 watts on the trip down. 1. Lots of people have trouble just walking and breathing at either of those elevations. 2. I tapped a motorist on the shoulder at the summit to take my pic and the wide-eyed look he gave me will never be forgotten. He was the same guy that was giving me shit at the visitor center parking lot at the base of the climb and he left a minute before me in his car and arrived at the summit 5 minutes before me. Los Padres National Forest outside of Ojai. The bike shop owner who I paid to guide me while out for 5 days on a work trip was a former continental cycling pro. I could tell the entire time he was skeptical of my goal to summit as most of the locals never even did that. And when I arrived, he was even more skeptical upon looking at me. I am a very bulky cyclist, but no matter what I do, I can not fet below 185’ despite my 5’10” frame. Well, I put him in the red and his business partner did jot believe us that we did the summit route and back. He did his 2nd fastest run ever on that route, the first being many years prior after he retired from professional cycling. 2 points to this follow-up. Firstly to say I was an absolute badass despite my current out-of-shapeness. Secondly to say, none of those rides could have occurred with my time availability without the Kickr trainer.
Thanks, need to find that trainer available some where or maybe even used on like Facebook market. The specs will be interesting. Going to have to get my mom to figure out the bike he has then go from there.
It comes with an 11 speed cassette. If you old man has a 10 speed, getting a bike shop to add another gear to the trainer cassette would most likely be needed.
Chased down a 30 min PR. Not a monster like some with a 350 output, but happy to even have the chance to get there based on work and life getting in the way. Need to up my time on the bike and shoot for a 400 in 30 by summer.
