    It’s a 30 min 80s rock ride from yesterday.

    God I am fatigued. I’ve taken like 3 days off in the last 3plus weeks and have ridden 2 weeks in a row. My legs feel good but my head isn’t into it today. Should I take the the day off or power through? a.tramp what do you think?

    Sometimes you just need a break if you can’t get your head into it. Sometimes you can’t get your head into it if you are burning yourself out. Hard to know if you are just having an off day or bringing the off day upon yourself.

    Try to follow this guideline for amount of time spent in each zone each week. And if you are going at threshold or above every day it only makes staying fresh even harder, even if you are only there for a little bit. The first step is knowing your FTP. Once you know that, you have an idea of what power each zone is.

    1st zone is recovery. You need to spend 1 out of 5 hours per week riding so slow you want to get off the bike due to boredom.

    2nd zone is recovery, 3 hours out of 5 at a pace that if you were riding with someone, you could speak with each other for the entire time in abbreviated sentences.

    3rd zone is threshold, 45 mins out of 5 hours a week at a pace that you can only bark 1 word commands at someone.

    4th zone is above threshold, forget words, just staying upright and breathing is hard enough. 15 minutes out of 5 hours a week.


    The 5 hours is just a time per week that I made up in order to make an example. But you will know if you are close to what I layed out or not.

    Thanks. I think Peloton has an FTP test ride that I am going to do. I also think it was in my head. I lifted a little just to do something and afterwards I wanted to ride but decided just to take the day off and do a longer moderate ride tomorrow. I’ve done 142 rides in 3 months so I understand why I also might be a little burnt out. I need to get it out of my head that if I don’t ride one day I am waisting money on the bike.

    My current schedule is:

    M: Off
    T: 30 min HIIT
    W: 45 min Power zone 3-6
    T: 30 Low Impact
    F: Off
    S: 1 hr Power Zone 2-3
    S: 45 minutes (I try to alternate between something light and then a Tabata ride)

    I do a ten minute cool down ride after every ride and I also stretch for ten minutes.

    I’ve added doing 20 minute core workouts M/W/Th nights.

    Also the nights I ride I do an additional twenty minutes of lower body stretches and then ten minutes of foam rolling.

    This is the best I’ve felt in years.

    Did a Denis class this morning and it was pretty much all thirsty chicks laughing at his jokes and singing . With that said he is pretty dreamy.

    FTP is a Wilpers ride - 20 minutes - so searching on those two items may bring it up. He also has a 10 minute warm-up for FTP that isn't mandatory, but it does go over what to expect on the FTP ride, so it's more relevant than a regular warm-up.

    Proof of fitness improvements - I took the FTP on Feb 2nd (first ride was Jan 18th). Turned myself inside out and averaged 20.3 mph for the 20 minute test. Rode an hour ride with Christine the other day and averaged 20.7 mph. I have been adjusting my zones upwards on feel for a while now, but in theory the FTP test is made to be periodically re-taken to adjust your zones.

    If there was a touch panel button that muted the instructor and turned up the studio lights, I would ride with Denis a lot more often.

    Hit a PR on my last two rides. Came out with that goal and managed to hold on to the end which was satisfying.

    That 45m 90s ride with Jess last night was BRUTAL. Holy shit man. I didn't hit my PR, but not for lack of effort. That was the toughest interval related ride I've done yet. Basically had me at my threshold in and out of the saddle for the majority of the main ride block. The "recovery" for most of the intervals in the saddle was a 45 resistance at 90 cadence, which is pretty solid work for me still. Saw the difficulty was fairly high before starting, but my body wasn't ready.

    Her body however, was ready. The things I'd do.....

    I actually don't think I can do any more recovery rides with him, he gets to rambling. There was one that he went into such a random recovery comparison that I was so distracted that I'm not even sure if i was still pedaling.

    I find that I have made my best gains taking Matt’s classes. He explains things well and is good about pushing you without being obnoxious.

    He's not the most annoying instructor, think Cody is worse, but yeah Denis usually attracts some great New York boobs.

    Side note how high does everyone have their handlebars? Mine are at about seat height, was thinking about dropping them slowly. I feel that I use my thighs way too much when riding, its awkward and difficult to try to use my hamstrings and use the upstroke more.

    I have mine at “H” I’ve lowered them a couple times from where the installers put them. They said lowering them engages the core more.

    I can’t stress enough the progress I made last year following Matt’s training. It’s hard as hell (and it stays hard as he has you retest your zones every 6 weeks). Man his rides kill, but can’t argue the results. I’m about to start his 6 week program that he had at the beginning of the year.

    What program? I am going to hit 150 rides on Sunday so maybe I’ll do it starting on Monday.

    It’s on his Facebook page - it just outlines the training plan per week for six weeks. Arguably its the plan you should always be doing, but he just formalizes it here and makes it a “challenge.”

    If you start, let me know - it’s be cool to have a six week challenge gang

    I am iBspngworthy on Peloton and Beo in Strava. I am down to start Monday if you guys are. Tuesday if I have to take the FTP test. I would start sooner but my creepy ass has my rides mapped out to were I hit 150 on an Emma Lovewell ride so she can say my name again.

    Yes I admit it’s creepy and I am 100% okay with that

    I’d recommend pushing yourself for the FTP test. Do it after a rest day and for sure do the FTP warmup before the test.

    First time I did it, I didn’t go all out and my zones were way lower than they should have been for my first cycle.

    At the end of the test, you should be dead.

    Took a day off and hit a PR in a 45 min ride and a 20 min ride in back to back days. I guess I needed the day off.

    Help her or help you? I'm a little more worried for her. For you, I'm prescribing two weeks of Emma rest, a steady diet of Denis' boring stories and some Christine cooldowns. Starting after your milestone ride, of course. Good luck getting your shoutout. I'm still only at 75ish rides...should've added cooldowns a long time ago.

    This ride did not happen. My riding buddy had a mechanical and could not get out off the house. Was not going to battle 15mph winds with gusts to 25mph for 100 miles solo.

    Settled for 65 miles

    65 is insane to me. Can’t imagine 100. 40 has been my longest ride and that killed me.

    I have little to no doubt you could physically do 65 or even possibly 100 at this point, it is the mental part that gets you. So much that if I hadn't already planned to ride with someone today I could have knocked the 100 out with the wind. You have to lentally prep for it and when you get a text 10 minutes before ride time that your partner is bailing, that is too short of time to mentally switch gears due to what experience is about to happen.

    Just back off your milage at the beginning of the week and make it to where your 65-100 mile ride gets you to your normal weekly total.

    Start slow and finish strong. Hydrate and eat, don't change anything up as you want your body to do what it normally does, not try to learn how to digest/process a new energy/food item you have just crushed 60 miles into a ride for the first time ever. Also a terrible time to break in new gear or equipment.

    I’d be down to start the five day challenge next week. My only issue it that I’ll be on vacation the first week of May, but I assume I can work through that after the fact.

    I’ll the 6 ride a week one. Quick questions since it appears that these are all on demand classes do we look for the specific ride or just any 45 min ride when it says “45 min rock”? Do we look for specific difficulty?

    This challenge is different than ones in the past.

    The only other challenge I did, he fixed his Live rides to the challenge.

    This looks to call on specific rides in the past to meet the challenge, so it looks like they are for a specific purpose. It looks like when it says "70s rock ride" that it calls for a very specific date and ride. Should be interesting to see how the rides are all pulled together.

    I will say that matt is very scientific with his training, so I would guess that these rides were hand picked for a specific purpose.

    I just looked for the week one Tuesday ride on 6 ride a week challenge and there was a 70s rock ride at the time and date that corresponds with the challenge. I thought it was going to be more difficult but it took 10 seconds to find. I guess no Emma Lovewell for 8 weeks. Unless I sneak something in there.

    I’ll post my FTP result at start and finish. Wish there was a way we could make it a competition for a little extras motivation.

    Hit my PR on Sunday with 16.1 miles, 469 kJ, avg output at 211 watts 76, avg cadence and 55 avg resistance in 45 min. If I’d hit 80 with 55 I would have matched wolverine’s out put

    I didn’t do too many spin classes before getting the bike but price wise I am getting such a bargain for the Peloton.

    I ride five days a week without fail. My wife rides four days a week without fail. We pay like 100 bucks a month for the bike. It’s such a steal.

    And then when the bike is paid off it’s just 40 bucks a month for the classes. This thing is so awesome.
