I think both teams are better off with a reunion.
Does he call the plays? Fucking awful today. How many short side runs do you need to run against a really good defense before you realize that's a bad idea. And that fake option keeper up the middle was very nice the first time they ran it, the next 12 not so much.
QB can’t throw the ball beyond 10 yards and his best WR has a 27% dropped passes rate. Hard to score with that combo
That Guidry guy has hands of stone
He’s the real life Clifford Franklin
Is he the guy that dropped that wide open TD pass against you guys? He had the defender beat by five yards easy and the balk went right through his hands
Yes, he’s dropped 27% of the passes thrown to him this season
Dan Mullen bump imo
Just got back from the game. I’m still giving Moorhead a pass. Fitz and the receivers are just struggle. Yes the play calls were very questionable but we should have easily won that game. Stupid penalties and missed plays. In the first half alone Fitz made the wrong read 4 times on wr’s wide open for td’s.
strange obsession for Gator fans.
More like curiousity to give us a view into where Mullen may have us headed.
I think the point made about Miss State having a top 5 defense, a strong OL with NFL players, and a 5th year QB that go 8-5 says a hell of a lot about Mullen and what he built. Especially when we have had to hear various fans of other programs question the hiring of Mullen in the first place.
The team Mullen built up going into this season is damn impressive and filled with NFL players. Most SEC posters would have said this was the most talented State team he would have ever had.
He’ll have you going in the right direction. If he was coaching us I believe this would have been a 10-2 team.
But he also dropped another one in that game
#Mississippi State Bulldogs fans how would we feel about this
I'm sure they'd be thrilled. He won 8 games with the most talented team in the school's history and doesn't seem to be doing shit to refill the coffers.
I never thought he fit. Just seems like a fish out of water in rural MS
They’d prob work out a deal and call it a mutual parting of ways. State fans including my wife got used to antics over the past decade and think ole Joe is boring.
No one with a P5 or AAC job is going to Rutgers.
Most State fans I know can’t stand the guy.
i don’t know what Rutgers pays, but I State pays pretty good now.
Celemo is it still too early to judge the guy?
Joe come back to state college
Really? Why? He seemed to be a really cool dude
Mullen spoiled them a bit.
When he got there, they were clearly the worst program in the SEC West. He completely turned them around and made State a very respectable program in the toughest division in college football. But he never took them to “next level” in their minds. That is, winning a NY6 bowl and beating Alabama (like Freeze did at Ole Miss). Their hope was Moorhead would be the guy that took them to the next level. He had a roster in 2018 capable of a 10-3/11-2 season but went 8-5 with some pretty ugly losses. A lot of them really thought that last year could have been the year where they pushed for a division title. The crazy thing is a lot of MSU fans I know dislike Mullen too, despite his record, because he was always job hunting.
Realistically, the best Moorhead can do now is keep the program where Mullen had it (winning 7-9 games a year, and maybe a season like they had in 2014 if you catch some breaks). It doesn’t look like he has them on the right trajectory, though.
I don’t think he’s going to have another team as talented as that ‘18 team was
To be fair, most of that talent was lopsided on the defensive side of the ball. Fitzgerald was a really poor fit for Moorhead’s offense and their WRs were among the worst in the SEC.
But yeah, that was a generational type defense they had. Everyone knew Simmons was awesome out of HS, but Sweat and Abram were two bounce back JUCO guys that the recruiting services just really underrated. Abram played HS ball just down the road from my hometown. He was a nice player, but most expected him to be a fringe starter at UGA at best.
He’s a carpetbagger.
If MSU replaces Moorhead with Drinkwitz they can come out of this looking real good.
yeah drinky is real nice
He's a slightly better recruiter but that's it. Never got the infatuation with him as an oc, seemed like McSorley scrambled a ton to make plays or they just threw a bunch of jump passes to their tall receivers. He gave guys like Bruce Feldman access so of course they loved him.
I’m still on the fence with Joe. Personally I want to see him succeed and do well here for a long time. I think the players like him and he loves the recruiting side. I have concern with the discipline of the program, strength program, and some of his preparation. We had a delay of game penalty on the first play against auburn. How do you not have your play ready to go. Then another delay of game on the punt a few plays later. I’m worried he’s wanting to have to much control over the offense and not do HC things during the game. If he can adapt and make some changes I think he’ll be a good fit. I know we’ll probably never compete for a title. Give me 8-9 win seasons with the occasional 10-11 possibilities and I’m happy.
The idea his offenses were “a bunch of jump passes to tall receivers” was a horseshit opinion then and it still is now. The dude was awesome at PSU. Our offense was putrid prior to him arriving and took a solid step back when he left. I think he can be a good HC. He’s a pretty good recruiter and his system/guys have blossomed that used to be with him at Fordham or PSU. Granted, he had some elite talent to work with on offense at PSU in Godwin, Barkley, McSorely, Gesicki, and Daesean Hamilton but he also dealt with a dogshit OL.
Nope he truly caught lightning in a bottle.
Didn't footballscoop say that Schiano was told he was next in line and why he quit the Pats
Just lost to 1-4 Tennessee..
I was a supporter of him until this loss. It’s clear he’s in over his head.
His ass needs to head back across the Mason-Dixon line after fat Luke and Rich Rod run roughshod over us during the egg bowl this Thanksgiving.
We will gladly take him back as OC
This guy stinks and looks 20 years older than he actually is
MS State should hire Larry Fedora.
They should hire me and devine as co-offensive coordinations
Dan Mullen spoiled the ever loving shit out of Miss St.
I feel sorry for State with how bad Moorhead wasted that team last year, was just inexcusable.
Yes, Rutgers is a shit job for any half decent FBS coach but goddamn you could probably win 5 games a year at this point, get paid $3+ million/year and have a fucking statue built for you. And trust me, as someone who relishes not having to defend New Jersey anymore, I would much rather live in a in a gaudy McMansion in NJ than anywhere in Mississippi and I promise you it’s not debatable.
