Not gonna read the whole thread but I saw Deja Entendu was mentioned, The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me is also perfect, IMO, but both are difficult to listen to now given Jesse’s…. proclivities. I assume Lost in the Dream by War on Drugs and MBDTF have been mentioned too. Joshua Tree is perfect too.
Also probably been mentioned but In Rainbows. I also feel strongly that it’s Radiohead’s best record. Hell I like The Bends more than OK Computer or Kid A.
26 years old and still holds up so well. a legitimate masterpiece in my opinion. definitely in contention for my single favorite album of all time
Imported it (like all Wrong Again Records shit back then) in late '96, didn't really know what to do with it. By '98 it's all I wanted to listen to. Well, that and Abramelin.
I was thinking the other day.. This album and Southeastern by Isbell were released less than a month apart. That was 2013 and I haven't stopped listening yet.
The age I was coupled with the copious amounts of weed drugs and psychedelics I consumed during that time frame firmly cements Ok Computer as Radioheads best album. I could see why people do not find it as appealing as their others though.
20 years old today. If you made me rank the best albums of the 21st century it would easily be top 5 and maybe even #1.
One of the (greatest) most underappreciated albums in rock/prog history. Every song is its own musical, masterpiece front to back. Highlights Spoiler
you are telling me, I had to create a new account not based on Deja Entendu and I still have a spaceman on my arm from the art that I also painted in oil. sighhhhh
The DE spaceman was my computer and phone background for probably five years straight. Almost got it tattooed as well. Devil & God is still my favorite and deserves to be in this thread. Science Fiction is underrated. Great album.
great band…shithead. I still go to bat for Manchester Orchestra and Kevin Devine. Hard for me to listen to Brand New at this point because Lacey is a brilliant lyricist and lead man and turns out to be a piece of shit human being.
Brand new one of my favorite bands, Jesse news also saddened me but makes sense if you look at DE lyrics in retrospect. also science fiction is better than DE don’t @ me bros
Yeah it definitely gives the Devil & God album art a whole new meaning. Manchester Orchestra’s Mean Everything to Nothing was one of my favorites back in the day. Andy Hull is incredible.
As great as Deja Entendu is, The Devil and God is their masterpiece imo. Probably my favorite album ever. It sucks that Jesse was a creep.
Almost impossible to compare. One is pop punk and the other more prog rock. The amount of growth and development in their music from album to album was always amazing. I have more memories attached to Deja which gives it more meaning for me than Science Fiction. But, I’m with you, if I could only listen to one of the two now, it would be SF.
I’ve mentioned Stoplight Observations on here a few times over the years, but haven’t really came across anyone else that has listened to them. They are a hidden gem and will grow on you very quickly. Two of their albums are worthy of this thread, imo. Aquarius Apocalyptic and Idle Hands then Bright Blue Whales and Break Them Bad Boys Down are two of the best from each of those. But both albums are solid start to finish. Definitely worth a listen.
Brian Eno's production, genius bassist Tina Weymouth and drummer Chris Frantz jamming out, King Crimson's Adrian Belew funky guitar work, a dozen genres (including afrobeat and early hiphop) seamlessly blending together behind David Byrne's eccentricity. One of the greatest of all time. Highlights Spoiler
The third album from Trent Reznor and his Nine Inch Nails, following up his magnum opus The Downward Spiral, the Fragile is another masterpiece. A tonal shift from Broken and TDS' angry tornado of frustration and self-loathing to a more introspective and personal resonance. The Fragile is an album ripe with Reznor's experiences, ranging from drugs, death and everything in between. Highlights Spoiler My favorite track
The albums in which I think are perfect are: Moondance - Van Morrison Ten - Pearl Jam Most Zeppelin albums Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - Lauryn Hill August and everything after - Counting Crows
I Houses of the Holy III PG II/IV I've listened to Houses, III and PG a thousand times over throughout the years. Last 4 can be rearranged at any given time.
It really depends on my mood. But II is typically my favorite. I think mostly because I read that “hey hey what can I do?” Was going to be on that album. And it’s my favorite LZ song. IV is obviously solid, but I prefer most tracks over stairway on that album. Battle of evermore and when the levee breaks? Absolute bangers
One of the greatest debut albums, one of the greatest new wave/rock albums, an extremely influential album from 1978 - you couldn't ask for more. The Cars by the Cars is jam packed full of rock hits with polished pop choruses and sensibilities blended together with a perfect dose of new wave synthesizer sounds. Highlights Spoiler
The Cars are strange in that you (or at least I) think of Ocasek when I think of the Cars but the bass player sang most of their biggest hits
Disc 1 is absolutely incredible and Somewhat Damaged is right up there with All the Love in the World for my top 5 songs of all time (which happens to be a fairly weird list) Goodbye Horses Love Will Tear Us Apart Somewhat Damaged/All the Love in the World Down in a Hole You Know You’re Right (feel like it’s sacrilegious to have this as my favorite Nirvana song, but whateves) Just a sad boy
