Depends on what you are there for or in mood for as always but I like North Oakland, Squirrel Hill, Shadyside also Mount Washington has some good restaurant vistas Strip District alright, seemed like easiest bar situation was on South Side Flats
The Milkman and I barhopped, hit a brewery, and then went to a Pirates' game and spent like $200 at a late night pierogi place. We got an order of everything on the menu.
Polish and Italian food is really good in Pittsburgh the fries on sandwich places are mediocre the casino is fairly legit for Midwest casino standards, I think it’s an MGM or something like that. the overlook is pretty cool and worth going to, think it’s Mount Washington.
I knew nothing about Pittsburgh before I went there the first time, and was really impressed. Thought the city would suck ass for some reason, but it’s awesome. Good bars, cool downtown, great ballpark on the river.
Fat Head's Salloon in South Side is so much better than Primanti's (the french fry and cole slaw on the sandwich place). Great sandwiches and decent beer selection. Grist House Brewery in Millvale has fantastic beers and is a cool spot to hang out and have a few. RockHardJawn39 Mt. Washington is a good view and there are some good restaurants. You can experience the incline to get up and down the mountain side to get there. Andy Warhol Museum (North Shore near the stadiums) and The Heinz Pittsburgh Historical Museums (Strip District) are both pretty great if you like Warhol or want to learn some Pittsburgh History. If you're in town for a weekend, head to the Strip District Sat or Sun morning- its like an open air market. Some good food and such. Excellent people watching. Big fan of Wholley's seafood and Sunseri's Italian market.
Jk I met up with devine a few weeks ago at Cinderlands brewing and had a few beers. He’s a good dude and highly recommend doing the same if you are in town.
OP: Treat yourself to some fine menswear while in town. Also, don’t forget to go to Sheetz, they’ve got tons of prepared foods and clean terlets.
I spent a couple of days there a few weeks ago before and after the Auburn Penn State game. Besides meeting up with top tier user devine , I went to PNC for a Pirates game and then went to the Andy Warhol museum. I enjoyed walking around the rivers and bridges and there is Point State Park which was the site of an old fort around the revolutionary war. Didn’t check out the small museum though. The Warhol museum was cool, but I did it solo with a few beers in me so I went thru it pretty fast. People recommended checking out Mt Washington, but didn’t have time for that. Steelers game was great people watching. Only brewery I checked out was with@devine and went Cinderlands. Dancing Gnome and Voodoo were recommended but further away from where I was at. Strip District is a pretty cool area. Went to OG Primanti’s to do tourist stuff. Overall, I enjoyed my time in Pittsburgh and was pleasantly surprised by the city and its setting as I didn’t know much going into my trip.
I had one at Primanti Bros and enjoyed it with my burger with coleslaw and fries on it. Lots of haters itt
I worked/lived in Pittsburgh from Monday - Thursday every week for 9 consecutive months, and I found the place to be surprisingly nice. Depends on the reason you’re there, but on a work trip “fun” things to do and see would be Heinz field, PNC Park, the casino, the Warhol, pens games, the p cool train station, the brewery in the old church, hanging in and around the area near Carnegie Mellon, and checking out the myriad restaurants. Don’t overlook the quality of the food, but don’t waste a meal on Primanti Brothers.
Do not bother with primantis unless you like the novelty of it. Much better food options in the strip. Guacho is fucking awesome. Smallman gallery is a good time too. I'm pretty biased but I'll always recommend Grist House in millvale. There's a bunch of good breweries in Pittsburgh, though. Arsenal cider if you like ciders. If you want a very nice meal I'd suggest Monterey Bay up on Mt Washington. Carson St is good if you just want to get fucked up and go bar hopping.
The correct nomenclature is “thank yinz” also- if you’re going to do primantis, which is a unique thing and can be decent, you must go to the original in the strip district. My advice for the sandwich is to choose salty or spicy meat for the sandwich. It helps cut through and break up the starch heavy of the bread and fries. The Cole slaw is vinegar and sugar based so it’s sweet. So, salty goes well and makes for a decent tasting sandwich. I do salami or capacola usually.
Smallman galley is closed. There is the Federal Galley on the north side that has the same ownership and same concept. It’s great. iron born pizza in the strip is great Detroit style pizza.
Primanti Bros is good if you get the right sandwich. There are some that are good (Capicola, Pastrami) and others that suck.
devine sends me unwanted pics of his food every day. The fries on top of everything is so bizarre. Salads, sandwiches, etc. just shit tons of fries on top
Yeah, I left that job. But for a while I was the #2 customer at the Westin Convention Center - Pittsburgh, so I got that going for me
-There's nothing more Pixburgher than goin dahn the Strip District on a Saturday morning. n'nat. -Pittsburgh actually has some really cool parks and outdoor activities. Peak fall foliage is probably right around now - best time of the year in the burgh. You could make an afternoon of renting bikes and riding along the North Shore Trail (semi post industrial views along the Allegheny River) from dahntahn to Millvale and grabbing a beer and then back. Frick Park is also super cool. -Southside sucks, it's never worth all the douche you have to put up with. Much chiller drinking and eating in other neighborhoods in the city. Edgewood, Squirrel Hill, Shadyside, Bloomfield, Lawrenceville, probably a bunch of other neighborhoods are all better options. -Oh, and, the aforementioned Mt. Washington ("wershington") for views / restaurants with views. Make a reservation. That goes for lots of the good restaurants in the city. Can be unusually tough to get a table during certain times of the year.
