I fuckin wish. He was above average at Ok State when he was in his late 40s. He would have sucked dick at Minn as a 63 year old.
Like what? He's young and coming out of the MAC. Besides Oregon his name never really came up for any big time openings this year. MAC coaches usually have to settle for some program in the dregs like Iowa State or Purdue to get a P5 gig. Minnesota is a pretty decent landing spot; far better than Indiana or Purdue. The West is an extremely winnable division and he came set himself up for a move to a better job. Inheriting a team that won 9 games ain't bad.
Some of the Oregon "insiders" were saying Oregon had him vetted/preliminarily interviewed and decided to pass on him. Maybe people wanna see him prove it past one year or maybe there's legit character concerns stemming from the whole wifey thing.
Will be a good tune up for him before he is ready to take on the head job at the 3 time defending SEC east champs
Not a terrible move for Fleck, IMO. I don't know much about who they have returning, but sticking around another year is always risky---how much higher could his stock rise? Minnesota plays in the shittier division in the B1G and has finished with a winning record more years than not. However, winning 9-10 games in back to back years would look like a huge improvement (think James Franklin) and could propel him to a top tier job within 2-3 years.
Won't speak for him, but I'm pretty excited. Claeys was the milquetoast of the year. Fleck is cheesy as fuck but if he backs it up I'm afloat. In all honesty, he reminds me of a younger Jerry Kill. Really stubborn about getting his way but those who buy in are really all in. We have a new athletes village opening next year and our team was recruited by a staff Fleck has worked with before, so hopefully it isn't a gut rehab. If the rumors about Fleck coveting a B1G job are true, it's probably his only chance in the next couple years because all the other teams have new or established coaches. Our media will hate him, but I'll drink the koolaid and feel okay with him being a douche as long as we win.
Started fucking a booster's wife* while his own wife was home pregnant *now his current wife Allegedly
I would just like to point out the B1G Bowl Records: B1G West: 3-2 B1G East: 0-5 The B1G West also has a winning record against the East in cross-over games.
Probably a good move by him. You aren't going to do better at WMich than what he did this year. The guy does seem legitimately crazy though.
I've been through enough coaching changes that I'll wait to form an opinion after I meet the staff and watch them practice. I'm skeptical of how his schtick will fly in a major metro area with our media but only time will tell and winning covers a lot. I'm still a little sad still about the old staff being shown the door and they way they were treated by the AD on the way out. He unnecessarily threw them under the bus and questioned the culture of the program after we watched them rejuvenate a 3-9 team that was almost on probation and into a 9-4 team with a top 5 APR. It is the ADs perogative to fire the staff but he didn't have to speak about them the way he did. It might work with the general public but I don't think it will go well with donors and I'm more annoyed by that right now than worried about the coach.
fwiw-Claeys or his DC Jay Sawvel would be great at KSU. Their defenses are a little more fine tuned for Big 12 style offenses and they did a hell of a job. The bowl game against WSU tells you everything. Missing 4 of the top 6 DBs they held them to 12 points and up until the prevent D in the last 2 minutes it was 190 yards of passing against an O that was averaging 380 for the year.
How much longer is Snyder going to be there? Are there some tentative plans/ideas out there for when that happens?
Some thought this might be his last My top choice is Venables from Clemson Sounds like Leavitt wants it as well I assume one of those two, sans some other better hire appearing
