Does anyone on here know a lot about tennis on here? I just bet on Federer -1000 to beat Hewitt. It was bad odds, but I figured it was about to as close to a sure thing as there is. Anyway, does anyone on here wager on tennis or know enough to make educated picks?
Damn congrats, you have to have laid some serious coin for that to have been worth it. I would not lay those odds to Hewitt even vs Federer.
tennis has some outrageous odds and the risk/reward isnt worth it IMO. I may place a wager on the semi-finals/finals of a tourney but no outrageous amounts. Generally from what I see the favorite on the men's side generally pulls through. However way to many damn upsets on the women's side.
Your best bet on betting Tennis is to bet on the games handicap or the total over/under. Last night I bet Serena Williams/Sam Stosur under 19 games. My feeling on the match was that Serena would win easily. So rather than laying something ridiculous by betting on Serena to win I bet on the under 19 games and it paid +105. I did the same thing with Federer/Hewitt betting under 35 games. I felt that Federer would have no trouble beating Hewitt in straight sets and easily cashed in. The only time it's worth it to bet on the money line IMO is when you have a "live" underdog who you think could actually win. I bet on Cilic to beat Del Potro the other night because I saw nothing out of Delpo throughout the tournament to suggest he was anywhere near 100%. I think next major I will do an official betting thread because tennis is actually something I know a lot about. On BetUS right now there is actually a line on Federer and Nadal vs. the Field. It's -130 for Federer and Nadal and -110 for everyone else. Interesting. For tonight I like: Andy Roddick -2.5 games (-130) Andy Murray/Rafael Nadal over 41 games (-125) Justine Henin/Nadia Petrova over 21.5 games (-135) Maria Kirilenko +120
I can understand what you are saying but that's not always true. Put it this way. If you had bet Federer on the Money line in the first 4 rounds of every major for the last 5+ years you would be on a 92-0 streak right now. There is value in it when there is virtually no chance that you could lose.
Yeah, it might be -5000 or something ridiculous like that but it's still a virtual lock so its worth the risk in some cases. It's not like a college basketball or football game where a 20+ point favorite can just completely shit the bed and lose. There are certain matchups in tennis where there is essentially 0% chance that a player could lose. I made some good money in Vegas last summer betting on Venus Williams at Wimbledon in every round except the final against Serena. When you know that a player is a virtual lock it can be worth the risk.
Aero, I am thinking about doing a ML Parlay with Nadal and Federer in the next couple rounds. Atleast that way I would be getting a little bit better odds.
What happens if the player you bet on gets hurt? They forfeit and you lose? I bet Favre would throw and int yesterday and each time he went to the ground I was like
I'm pretty sure the match isn't considered official unless it goes 2 complete sets so it would just be no action if someone withdraws early in the match with injury. It's pretty rare for someone to withdraw that late into a match.
I wouldn't. Murray is playing very well and Nadal on hardcourts isn't the same player. Murray is actually a slight favorite from the oddsmakers.
I know there are matchups that are virtual locks. I used for follow tennis pretty close in HS when I played.
