Just started listening to Reply All from the beginning, it's like a Planet Money for internet related things. Also started with My Dad Wrote a Porno. It's funny, but I can see it getting old
Mantzoukas, Jon Gabrus, and PFT on today's Comedy Bang Bang. Hard to beat that lineup. The Anniversary show should be next week as well.
Start-Up Season 1 is my favorite work by Gimlet, but Reply All consistent delivers week after week. I like pretty much all of their shows except Sampler. I haven't listened to all of their recent shows.
I was years late to this, but all long time CBB fans should listen to U Talkin' U2 2 Me and Analyze Phish. I don't really give a shit about either band, but find both podcasts hilarious.
listened to S-town on a drive down to Florida 2 weeks ago. Enjoyed it, but felt like it really fell off about 3/4 way through.
I like the Serial Killers podcast because it does provide a lot of detail about what drove the person to do what they did. But goddamn the voice actors are awful and the introduction of the cohost always aggravates me "she's not a criminal psychologist, but just someone that is fascinated in figuring out what makes serial killers tick"
U talking u2 2 me is my favorite show ever, I've listened to it almost 3 times it is so amazing. The Phish episode where Scott goes to the show and does drugs is so hilarious
So good. Are there any good new horror/folklore casts? I listen to NoSleep, Knifepoint, Simply Scary, and Lore. Pseudopod is ridiculously hit or miss.
U talkin U2 to me is the comprehensive and encyclopedic compendium of all things U2, including the names of all the band members and what instruments they play.
Just finished S-town which makes me want to check out serial. My regulars are... Planet Money Autoblog (cars) Mouths of the South (Atlanta United) Autoline Afterhours (cars) How I Built This Motley Fool Podcast Freakonomics Stuff You Should Know The Solid Verbal Championship Drive I drive all over Georgia and SC so I have a lot of time to listen in the car.
Haven't read the entire thread to see if it's been mentioned but I highly recommend Undisclosed (http://undisclosed-podcast.com/) if you listened to Serial season 1 or like true crime (especially wrongful convictions) in general. Season 1 is a deep-deep-dive into Adnan's case from Serial (40+hrs IIRC). It's hosted by Rabia Chaudry (the family friend that brought the case to Sarah K) and a couple others - they are definitely coming at the case from the angle of freeing Adnan - and don't really high the fact that they are advocates for his cause . Things they've found over the course of the podcast are responsible for his post-conviction relief and are driving the case at the moment. Supposedly they have some "bombshells" they're sitting on in case the State goes for a re-trial. They do an addendum to each episode that was supposed to simply be a discussion, but they became full-fledged episodes themselves introducing new evidence and plot points. Serial is a pre-req but if you enjoyed it, listen to this. Warning though, all 3 hosts are lawyers (one, Colin Miller, is a law professor at U of S. Carolina) so it can get pretty dense and detail oriented at times. Lots of good A/V resources on their website too. Season 2 covers the case of Joey Watkins (https://www.georgiainnocenceproject.org/undisclosed/). Enjoyed it a lot - another wrongful conviction case. Growing up in rural AL, I could relate to a lot of the characters/situations. With this season though, the addenda (hosted by Jon Cryer of all people) are more or less a talk show with some guests about that week's episode and I tended to skip those. Until Season 3 drops they've been doing some mini-series. Colin did a few episodes on the Jamar Huggins case - a wrongful conviction from SC - and it along with the addenda are basically free law school lectures. Big fan of this short run of eps. Now they're 8 episodes into investigating the the case of Freddie Gray with some journalists/researchers from Baltimore. Like anyone who's watched The Wire knows, you can't trust BPD. This addenda format went back to the talk-show panel discussion and I tend to skip those as well. Goddamn I took too much time writing that out.
The Generation Why is another favorite I haven't seen mentioned ITT. Two hosts discussing mostly true crime cases with the occasional conspiracy theory or current event thrown in, Production quality is pretty poor for the first year or so of episodes but it's improved a lot. New episodes every Monday, almost without exception. Lots of credit to those dudes for the sheer volume they put out. Only thing I support with Patreon. Another crime one I enjoy listening to is Sword & Scale - although my enthusiasm has waned after meeting the host and seeing how much of a dick he was.
Some of my fav podcasts are: I love films I love i love films I love i love i love films Talkin' bout turtle Blue turtlin Great bits What's your fuck style? Sick burns 2's clues You poppin' my stones? All about houses
thanks for the write up. BALTIMORE (WJZ) – An appeals court will hear arguments in the case of the Baltimore County man who was the focus of the popular podcast “Serial”. On Tuesday, Justin Brown, an attorney for Adnan Syed tweeted that arguments for the trial will take place on June 1, 2017. Syed was convicted back in 2000 for Shitty AMC Show of his ex-girlfriend and Woodlawn high school classmate Hae Min Lee. He was sentenced to life in prison. His story was told on the popular “Serial” podcast and began to raise questions about evidence presented in his trial. In 2016, a judge vacated Syed’s murder conviction and ordered a new trial. Earlier this year, a Maryland Court of Appeals said it would allow appeals from both sides to move forward.
Are tehre any decent podcasts that are 20ish minutes or shorter? Would like to have something to listen to while walking to and from work.
I'd probably just wouldn't even listen unless it was super compelling. My favorite radio show comes on right about when I get to work so I couldn't just keep listening to it in the office either.
Sit the fuck down. Don't you get in my face. What are you an egg? No, I know you're not because you're fucking allergic. Fuck you! Fuck you, you eggless bastard!
Episodes of The Truth average ~20m each and they're fictional "movies for your ears". If you're into that kinda thing.
Thanks for the suggestions. Will look them up. Found a few others to try out that are under 30 minutes History Pod TedTalks Audio Our Fair City The Way I Heard It Science Solved It - new one from VICE. Only has one episode at the moment Hidden Brain Convicted Criminal 99% Invisible Alice Isn't Dead Lore King Falls AM Welcome to Nightvale Kind World Homecoming Undone Limetown
haven't seen about last night with brad williams and adam ray funny shit their recent episode with will sasso was great
I have an hour drive to work, so I've been burning through podcasts the past few months. Some of my favorites: Up and Vanished- It's going on in real time, 10 year old case about a missing Georgia teacher. Podcast changed in a big way halfway through. Definitely recommend if you like true crime. Crimetown- I like all the gimlet stuff, but this is the best IMO. The history about Providence RI. It's fascinating. Solid Verbal- give me enough of a CFB fix The Audible- more CFB fix Reply All- love the stories about the Internet Sword and Scale: more true crime, more graphic stories
