espn's 30 for 30 podcast could be a good one to follow. i liked the episode about phil ivey and a chinese lady crushing casinos at baccarat because the lady knew about a printing defect in a certain brand of playing cards.
I listened to the first epidsode. It was strong like basically every show Gimlet puts out. A little worried that the podcast advertising model is a bubble that will deflate though and make these well produced shows with large staffs that have to be expensive harder to justify. Gimley payroll got to be approaching $10 Million a year. Lots of paychecks riding on MeUndies and Casper Mattresses. Plus I just fast forward through all of them. Joe Rogan got to make a killing off his show now. 100 Podcast a year, always high on the charts with less time and effort into 10 of his shows than 1 Gimlet Show. This isn't even including the residuals of getting people out to his comedy shows. Same with Maron.
Gimlet admits this too. That's why they make sponsored podcasts with Gimlet Creative and are looking to do more like what they did selling the first season of Startup to TV
The first 25 minutes or so of CBB's episode 500th episode are amazing. Similar to how PFT's background laughter is hilarious to me, the extent to which Gino the Intern cracks Zouks up makes me laugh.
An Oral History of Comedy Bang Bang. Good read. http://www.thedailybeast.com/comedy-bang-bang-500-episode-milestone-funniest-podcast-scott-aukerman
Mentioned it in another thread but GastroPod is sensational. Food and the history and science behind it.
Season Seven started yesterday. New episodes every two weeks https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/this-is-actually-happening/id497227384?mt=2&i=1000390301996
Not sure if I have mentioned it yet, but Historium is fantastic. Anywhere from 10-25 minutes on a crazy historical event or figure. The ones on Christman Genipperteinga and Mad Jack Churchill were awesome
I don't know how you guys listen to some of these podcasts that sound like morning radio shows. I just tried Last Podcast on the Left, and couldn't stomach more than 3 minutes. When it's comedians talking to each other it just comes off as forced, funny try hard, and cheesy to me. You know if they laugh on air, they are only doing that to trick the listener into laughing, right? It's like the sitcoms of the 70s and 80s, only these podcast and radio shows still do it in 2017.
I heard a fake clapper, forced laughter, and jibes at eachother. It just doesn't seem genuine at all, and therefore makes it cringeworthy to my ears.
The first time I listened to it, I came away with the same impression. I decided to give it another try, and it wasn't so bad the second time around. Now they've grown on me and I've listened to every episode.
Also, I started listening to the Martyrmade podcast. If you like Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, this is right up that alley. The episodes are long and informative, but pretty entertaining.
If you say it is, I know it is. I definitely trust your judgement. Gonna be tough for me to fit another podcast into the rotation. I've been so busy with work the last 5 months that I'm struggling to keep up with my current lineup.
It's improvised musicals I don't watch musicals but really enjoy this the 2 hosts are really good at improvising the singing. The
Started listening to Reply All this weekend. The format reminds me of This American Life. https://gimletmedia.com/reply-all/
Also, finally started listening to Up and Vanished. Really well done IMO, if you like true crime type stuff.
Anyone know any talented podcasters or documentarians? This would be amazing. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/jul/15/mckeithen-cold-case-team-re-examining-1989-mcrae-m/
Has anyone tried The Butterfly Effect that they keep advertising on NPR? Supposedly about technology and porn
"The Turnaround" looks really good. Just finished the Ira Glass episode, really enjoyed it. If you're a fan of NPR or long form interviews, check it out.
Yeah, they have super interesting topics but I was listening to one about the Ensfield Poltergeist and it was tough listening to all their "jokes" throughout and breaking up the story. It was like listening to MST3K, but not as funny.
I've only used soundcloud for hearing some local sports radio, then got into a few fantasy football podcast. Is there an app that offers more/different varieties of podcast than just what soundcloud offers? It seems to be flooded with a lot of crap and it's hard to find legit content.
Locked Up Abroad podcast is pretty good 3 episodes in, don't miss the visuals as it still gives me anxiety
After finishing Up and Vanished, which I generally liked, I made the mistake of going to the subreddit for the podcast. People over there are overwhelmingly negative and hate Payne Lindsay. I mean he wasn't my favorite but this seems like an absurd overreaction. Anyone else feel that way?
