I don't mind him really. He sort of got on my nerves at the beginning but all things being equal I think he's done a good job on both the podcast and the case. Whats their beef?
That he made it about him more than he should have, that he spent a lot of time on meaningless leads (like the buried police uniform), that he ended the series on a 2nd hand story after he bragged for a long time on how he vetted everything out, etc. Overreaction if you ask me. The one time when he rubbed me the wrong way was when he started attacking Bo's GF for Bo not apologizing. Felt really weird and unnecessary.
I just finished the Brooke episode at lunch today. I thought he was out of line as well. For a second it was like he knew Tara or had a connection to the whole deal. There's a way to get her to answer that stuff without losing your cool or breaking your supposed neutrality. Understandable though after all the time he's put into it but you still have to remain professional. I think its remarkable what he accomplished though. Thats the coolest part of the whole podcast for me. He's just a guy trying to copy serial hoping to make a buck and further his career (whatever that was) and he clearly had a natural talent for it. I'm surprised there isn't a dedicated thread on it on here tbh.
listening to this is like . eating a supreme bowl of crunch-berries with heavy whipping cream . yep just oh -like that . I bow wow .wow !..
Listening to some history on fire pisses me off to no end knowing that Carlin was thinking about doing Cortez and the aztecs. I want to like that podcast but he's just not good at it at all. He's making one of the coolest events in history pretty boring
I thought the show went incredibly down hill after Ryan and Bo were arrested. I agree that Payne made it too much about himself especially in that Brooke episode. I powered through thinking there was going to be some big reveal at the end, but was disappointed. I understand the podcast got people talking again which probably lead to Bo confessing to Brooke and going ham on the internet, but it's not like that was the first person he confessed to. I'm generally interested why people act like Payne solved the case and saved the day. I will enjoy Sworn because I think Phillip will do a much better job reporting the facts and not getting emotionally attached like Payne did.
Timesuck on Kurt Cobain this morning was really good. This is the first podcast done by a comedian (other than the Dan Carlin-style Hardcore History on The War of the 5 Kings) that I've legit enjoyed. Really recommend that episode for sure. Idiots of the internet section actually made me laugh.
I think Cum Town has permanently warped my brain into thinking it's okay to say wildly inappropriate shit.
I fucking love Timesuck -- probably my favorite podcast at the moment. Anyone who likes Hardcore History I'd imagine will like it. The host is a comedian, but he doesn't venture too far off track, so I can stomach it. That said, I'm listening to his episode on Caligula, and he has the guys from the Small Town Murder podcast. These guys are pretty hard to stomach, I hate it when people use their old school radio training on podcasts. It literally makes me want to turn it off immediately when I hear a host start doing that forced laughter bullshit.
I had a 5 hour drive on Friday and listed to the entire Butterfly Effect with Jon Ronson. Draws you in. http://www.jonronson.com/butterfly.html
CBB fans, I'm headed out to UCB Franklin to see Neil Campbell and Paul Rust tonight. Should be a very entertaining hour.
Oh my god I have actually been listening to older episodes because I miss it. Just listened to Staind Glass and it’s still a thing of beauty.
They changed the podcast name to Humble Hype. In other news, the guy I'm buddies with on the podcast was on Price is Right last week.
the 30 for 30 podcast series has had some good ones. i liked the ones about the origins of the UFC and the Madden video game series
Raised by Television is a great new podcast from Lauren Lapkus and Jon Gabrus. Basically, they just reminisce about late 80s/early 90s kids TV.
Welcome to Night Vale podcast being turned into a TV series at FX. Someone needs to pick up Limetown as a series.
Which guest did you listen to? I’d recommend giving his chat with Jamie Foxx a try. Definitely not boring.
Could listen to Gabrus and Lapkus ramble about literally anything. Helps that I'm a 90s kid but fuck are those 2 funny
Dirty John podcast is worth checking out. It's from an LA Times reporter about a con-man, who targeted a specific family and did all kinds of shit to them.
Saving for Christmas drive home. I have a staple of weekly ones I listen to on my commute but the serial ones (pun intended) are great for long drives.
I haven’t listened to that show yet but I’ll give it a chance because we have such similar podcast tastes
Citations Needed is pretty good for a very leftist take on media criticism Listening to Chapo somehow got me try a listen to a podcast called Cum Town. It's...unique. No Cassette Audio for video game themed pop culture stuff Struggle Session - they had an episode recently claiming that Star Wars is dead. They had some good points
I wasn't impressed with her intellectual capabilities, either. That could explain how they were raised to be that way.
Nobody comes out of Dirty John looking good. -Kids seem spoiled and annoying -Wife is unbelievable naive and keeps taking back an obvious con man - John you cheer for him to get killed
