Citations Needed is my favorite media critique podcast and teaches you some neat tools to critically think about things
Listened to it today. I really enjoyed the first episode. If you liked the U2 series then you'll like this. I never really liked U2 as a band, but loved the podcast and essentially binged listened to it. I actually used to love REM when I was a kid, so I'm hoping that just makes this one that much more enjoyable for me. Adam Scott is so sneakily funny. Got to respect any reasonably famous actor that has no qualms talking about his butthole
I just started Homecoming last week and should have it knocked out by this weekend. Not sure how I feel about it so far about 7 episodes in, I keep wanting to really like it but they’re holding too much information back for me to be 7 episodes in and still only have a very generic idea of what the story is even about.
I’m planning on it, voice cast is top notch and the production values are great. I have some little issues here and there with it, but like I said, I really want to enjoy it, the hold back of the ‘secret,’ is almost to the point of being annoying though so far.
Through high school, college, and law school I was forced to learn the intricacies of three completely different types of citation, none of which I actually use today. How we haven't gotten to a uniform citation in the age of Google is beyond me.
You didn’t use the Citation Machine website in high school and college? That was like intro to middle school library 101 here...
Oh yeah for sure, but it still ate up much more time in the curriculum than it should have. I'm old enough that I'm sure we were told the citation machine was on the internet and therefore, inherently untrustworthy.
I'm at the Sam Harris x Geoffrey Miller live Waking Up podcast tonight. Honestly, a lil disappointing. Enjoy the podcast alot more but it could be the banal level the convo seemed to hover at. They never really get that deep into anything. Could also be that I'm used to listening to these @ 2x. #coolstory
Need a couple new ones to dive into for a long drive home this weekend. Serial style (as in, a series, not necessarily true crime like Serial) preferred.
Serial S Town Dirty John Butterfly Effect (if there's something similar to this out there, I'd love it) Up and Vanished I have a couple on my list that I want to try out just from googling "best podcasts" but if they're not serial style it gets old after a couple episodes and its hard to keep me entertained for hours on end.
I liked Homecoming and Crimetown, both from Gimlet. Homecoming is fiction about soldiers coming back from war and Crimetown is more documentary about Rhode Island mob.
If you liked Up and Vanished, the same guy did another one called "Atlanta Monster" about Wayne Williams. 10 episodes, about an hour a piece. It's worth checking out.
Couldn’t quite get into this on like UAV, every time he interviewed Wayne Williams he just came off as super manipulative and likely guilty of at least some of the murders.
A good chunk of the way through martyrmade podcast on the history of the Israeli Palestinian conflict. I didn't really know a whole lot about it going in and have really enjoyed it so far. I feel like he does a good job of telling the story without taking a side. If you like hardcore history I think you would be a fan.
That series is very long (around 15 hours total), but super well done. I recommend it highly, especially to people whose knowledge of the issues is limited to "Israel good, Arabs bad."
Yeah I just started listening last year but have searched for anyone he is on. I tried watching the show but like the podcast better. Carl tart as the cheif and calling everything an island is my top charcter. I don't think I could name a top ten though most are amazing. I usually listen anytime I am going somewhere. I have a out 3 months I have.missed that I need to catch up on.
I was in the same boat a couple of years ago. I don’t know how familiar you are with the back catalogue of the show that’s behind the stitcher pay wall, but there’s so many great episodes going back to 2009. I’d recommend finding a couple long running characters you like, and using the CBB Wiki and start listening to old eps (a lot of clips of classic appearances from well known characters are on YouTube, as are some old episodes entirely). Beyond that, if you do some googling you can find articles and Reddit threads containing discussions about best/favorite episodes. Also, the old Best Of’s are great for discovering new characters and eps as well.
Yeah it is a great podcast overall, the show does not do it justice at all which Scott admits. Im a few eps behind but have a lot of traveling to do in the future so looking forward to making strangers around me uncomfortable as I laugh while I catch up.
