bump northern lights and gg 4 .
This new pocket podcasts app update has me very upset.
Download the audio file and play it through a media player app like foobar2000 imo
I've used the Overcast app the last few months, and love it. The layout is clean and organized. Big fan.
Can I import all the podcasts I follow on Apple’s podcast app to one of these others? I’m still using the generic podcast app and I’ve reached my breaking point.
I held off for a while waiting for the ability to do this in Overcast but, at the end of the day, it took me like 20 minutes to do it manually and it was totally worth it.
Also to whoever posted Reply All: Thanks. It feels like a cross between Stuff You Should Know and This American Life without feeling as nerdy as SYSK or as pretentious as TAL
Great talk podcast that doesn't drag like a lot of the other ones. So many in those type of formats need a good editor - it always ends up as almost 2 hours of drivel. And Jeselnik is clearly the star but I think the whole group works really well together. At first I didn't think Erika really added anything but the more I listened the more I realized she's essential to making it great.
Yeah, I don’t know if you listen to Around The NFL but she was god awful when she first started producing and now she kicks ass. Big fan.
Yep. Paid for the upgrade. Love it.
Looking forward to S2 of Monster, covering the Zodiac Killer
What dont you like about the native app?
It's the only one Ive used but I dont have any issues w it. Every once and a while a pod will download like 40 of it's past episodes, which is annoying, but thats few and far between.
Also not sure if that's an app issue or something on the pod feed end.
I don’t have an issue with the native app but I just have a feeling there are better out there.
Overcast is a great podcast app. The developer is a good dude.
What benefits does the upgrade have? I’m listening to pods daily so I might do it just to support the developer.
Ok listened to Blueprint to Armageddon which was awesome! Then I went and bought Carlin's series on the Eastern Front which was also awesome. Any other really good history or war podcasts you recommend?
Listened to the Behind the Bastards series on L. Ron Hubbard. I didn't really know much about him other than he was a writer and he invented scientology.
holy shit what a psycho
Behind the Bastards is my new favorite. He does a great one on the Prince of Cambodia that led directly to Pol Pot.
You should just purchase his entire library. It’s all great.
Wrath of the Khans is my favorite.
History pods i listen to
History of Rome
History on Fire
Tides of History
History unplugged’s series on History of Civil War in 10 battles sounds good. Might try that next. Looked through revolutions. Most of the eras it covers don’t captivate me.
What are you interested in ? Sounds more like modernish wartime?
recently been real interested in Eastern Front WW2. Anything WW2. WWI. Cold War. 20th century American presidents.
The podcast called Presidental is pretty great It’s an episode devoted to each president and how they became president and their leadership styles
Just listened to episodes 1-6 of Dr Death. It was worth a listen.
I have a strange fascination with wrestling so Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard is pretty great. Prichard was one of Vince McMahon's right hand men during the 90s.
It's how I learned about a time when police had to shoot tear gas into a crowd in Little Rock, Arkansas because a riot broke out
SI's media podcast and whatever Richard Deitch's media podcast are called can both also be pretty good when they have the right guests on, if you like hearing about dirt at ESPN and whatnot
Like how the Boogermobile on Monday Night Football was actually something Booger specifically requested when they hired him for the job
Thank you. Will read tomorrow.
For anyone that listened to Up and Vanished S1, they caught bo dukes tonight. He's the one that it seems most people think is probably the actual murderer, not Ryan Duke. He had been threatening people in ocilla the past few days, mostly some family members. I think they caught him pulling into the driveway of one of the people he had been threatening. I was at a wedding here, and knew something was up when I saw a few of the people that were threatened get up and leave right during the middle.
He caught a new charge as well?
Yeah, that rape/sodomy/false imprisonment was all from NYD. He was already going back to jail for not paying any money back to the Gov't from when he stole something from the military. Not sure what that theft was all about. They were letting him turn himself in on his own for that. In retrospect, probably a bad idea. He's fucked State and Federeal it seems like.
And to clarify, he is not charged with her murder?
Did they get into the sex party ritual stuff?
No, I think the only charges in relation to that is to do with concealing a murder and burning the body.
Not that I recall. They spent a lot of time on how he bought a navy and was hunting for treasure
I ended up downloading Audible from Amazon and getting a free audio book. The Story of World War II by Donald Miller. The problem is the narrator is so boring. That is what makes Dan Carlin so good. He's a riveting narrator. A lot of audio books have narrators that are so boring it's almost hypnotic and puts you to sleep.
Dr. Phil launched a podcast today. First episode is a conversation with Shaq. I enjoyed it.
Started listening to S2 of monster recently (Currently four episodes are up)
How is the first season?
I thought it was interesting. It definitely made me do some deep dives on wiki about Atlanta back in that time. Some people didn't like the pacing of S1.
just finished season 2 of Serial. i thought it was pretty good, liked a lot of behind the scenes info that i wasnt aware of. thought she should have done an updated episode once his verdict came out.
will start season 3 now.
Listened to Doctor Death on a long car ride recently. Pretty good, worth a listen.
recent behind the bastards convert. big fan but holy hell are some of the guests fucking worthless.
the r kelly guest was especially bad. i'm still not entirely sure what she was supposed to bring to the table.
You should try 83 weeks with Bischoff if you haven't yet.
Late to the party but I’m listening to Atlanta Monster and have to force myself to get through the FBI guy (Mike McComas) and the female news anchor(?) interviews. I can hear the spit in his mouth when he talks and she talks like she’s speaking to a five year old. Both of them make me irrationally angry. I may have misophonia.
I couldn’t get into it, guy that got convicted came off as guilty and a con man imo. He was just supremely unlikable.
Martin Sheffield Lickley is just an all time great character
