You can have one if they bring in trades. You guys think blissey will be a thing at some point? Should I power the better one up or save the candies for a future evo? The ones I've fought in gyms are a huuuge pain in the ass.
You only barely scratch the egg hatching game when you're at 25-26 like we are, the number you hatch between now and 30 will likely at least double. I'm at 185 hatched and I believe 11 or 12 10k eggs. If I remember the data, 10k eggs are about a 6% chance to happen so yea, that's right in line. they'll come. usually what happens is I get a bunch rapid fire and then nothing for 30 eggs so it just seems like they're more rare rather than them just being spaced out equally. the hp alone is going to make him gym-worthy just because they're so tanky so I'd just prepare for the evo myself.
the game doesn't even begin until 25 really if you're at all interested in gym play. you need 710,000 XP to go from 1 to 25 but 1.29 million XP to go from 25-30 (where wild pokemon cap and where powering up pokemon shows a drastically reduced impact on their performance in gyms). I'll be 26 within a week which means I'm essentially just now halfway to level 30. my goal is to try and hit 30 during the summer, or about a year since the game came out. it'll be harder because of the winter but the events have helped me in huge ways and we didn't have those for the first 6 months of the game. I'm just trying to finish my dex and get to a point where I'm less concerned about catching stuff and more about just building better sets for gyms. I want to try and get to where I'm collecting 50 coins and 2500 stardust a day. fortunately, I live in a smaller city of about 25,000 so it's pretty achievable.
I caught a wild 500CP Lapras during the fall, was just happy to cross it off the dex. Even if I hatch one I'll have to put like 100 km on it just to get it to a reasonable level.
also wish more people understood prestiging and left reasonable pokemon to train against. nothing worse than rolling up to a level 3 or 4 gym and having it be all Snorlax, Dragonite, and Vaporeons. put a freaking 1800-2000 Arcanine there and let people prestige. did have one guy today do that as he left a 1650 Kingler at a level 7 gym (the 2nd pokemon was a 2600 Gyardos) and I had a nice little 800 CP VW/SB Ivysaur to bum rush him with.
someone put a 1371 Vaporeon at the bottom of a level 7 gym. if it wasn't already 27200/30000 I would have absolutely skipped prestiging there. it was still a big bag of AIDS.
I've got 2 1900 Gengars that I throw in gyms when I can, they're great to prestige against. saw a 30 CP Nidoqueen in an Instinct gym (level 6) and was just amazed.
Pretty sure Chansey is supposed to be one of the best gym defenders possible, though I'm definitely no expert. I think it has something to do with his defense. It takes so long to take him down that a lot of the time the time limit will hit and end the battle.
it is. Wing Attack is a must, any of the charge moves are at least decent altho DC is the worst, you really want Fire Blast.
the way prestiging a gym works (as in when you train against a gym of your own team to raise its XP and secure a spot for your own 'mon) is the max amount of XP you can get for beating one defender is 1000. this is achieved by having your entire team be 50% or lower in CP than the gym's lowest defender e.g. a 2000 CP Arcanine would yield max prestige XP if your whole team was 1000 CP or less. if done properly this is the most efficient (time and potions) way to beef up a gym. ideally you want something fairly shitty in that #1 spot in the 1800-2200 range depending on how the rest of the gym is because a lot of people have stuff in that 900-1100 area (Ivysaurs, Starmie, Cloyster, Tangela, Pidgeot) that are decent fighters in their own right and can swiftly take down the #1, quit the battle, toss a pot or two on and repeat. Gengar, Alakazam, Rhydon, Arcanine are all great defenders to prestige against because they're usually susceptible to a lot of common weakness or just don't have a terribly high amount of HP. what you don't want is what I bitched about, a 1371 CP Vaporeon, one of the top three pound-for-pound pokemon in the game. I had to find a bunch of Oddish and my Elekids to get in that range (660 or below) and it still sucked because Vaporeon's stupid good at any CP. same would go for a 2000 Vaporeon or Snorlax or Dragonite. the idea is to help your team by giving a shitty first pokemon, putting those hard countering fucks in defeats the purpose. the 30 CP Nidoqueen is also dumb (most high level players have virtually no 15 CP or lower pokemon) and the 900 CP Chansey is dumb for the reasons you discussed, because it has a lot of HP and not many pokemon in the 400-450 range do anything resembling decent damage. this is an aspect of gym play lost on a lot of people but in the case of that Vaporeon or Chansey it was someone who gets the basic concept but doesn't understand the finer points. now that I've explained that, when you start coming across 800-1100 CP pokemon that perhaps don't have great IVs that you won't be powering up or evolving, save those for prestiging so you have options. Tangelas shine here, especially Vine Whip/Solar Beam ones as they chew up Water types. Cloyster with Blizzard is good and Pidgeot with Wing Attack/Hurricane is a god-tier prestiger.
most of the big gyms of my team are all being loaded with 2500+ good gym defenders. Sometimes I can get a good combo at half the CP on a starter but with good defenders it ends up being a waste of time, weird how often the charge move glitches and theres no chance to dodge it. I end up going in with my normal gym attacker team and can pull in 1500-2000 per prestige most of the time by going through the entire gym
I'm up to 3 gyms a day now which usually means finding two level 6-9 gyms which I put usually my one of my Vaporeon, a Snorlax (moveset is better for O but eh Snorlax is Snorlax) or one of my two Confusion/Psychic Exeggutor if the gym has room. my 3rd gym I either take over a 5 or lower from someone else or just sneak in on a 2-4 gym and then immediately collect for the day before someone takes that gym down. bags have me limited right now. hopefully we get another 2x Pokestop event soon that will convince me to drop $10 and buy the last 350 spaces. I usually run a 150 norm, 100 great, 150 ultra, 50 razz and leave the last 200 for potions and revives although that number is beginning to shrink as greats and ultras stack back up for me since the starter event ended. 200 seems like a lot of potion space until it isn't, though, and being dumb in gyms or at least not being good at dodging charge moves will chew through your potions and revives quick. once I max my bags and hit 28 or so I'm going to focus on gyms a lot and try to get 5 a day if I can spare the time at night. powerup costs start to get prohibitively expensive around there so getting 2500 stardust from gyms and another 2500 from catches each day (not so bad since you get 700 from your first catch each day) would yield close to 40000 a week minimum (counting the huge 7th day stardust bonus) and probably closer to 45000-50000 with extra catches and egg hatching. although everything I read says beyond 30 you end up with a surplus of stardust because it takes so long to level so candy becomes more of the thing but if I have to make an army of 8-10 Vaporeons I'm fine with that since I've got over 1200 Eevee candy right now. also 350 coins a week would be a huge boost to my Incubator work. I usually keep 6 eggs incubating at all time so I could either cut back on spending money or just use the extra coins to have 8 or 9 Incubators going at once.
on that note have you guys run into anyone while taking down a gym? I still haven't met anyone yet but my city is pretty small at 25k. the gyms are basically the same 25-30 people on each team so I pretty much recognize all the Mystic players but I just never see them when they're taking down gyms. Valor's kinda swung back big in downtown but that's because I think they're all college kids and college just came back recently. it's funny how they've got the 4 gyms in and around the college but the second you go more than reasonable walking distance it's like 80% Mystic and 20% Instinct and almost no Valor. college should be easy pickings once the summer comes.
Team Valor player here. From my gym observations, I would say as of last week there were probably around 10 semi-regular/regulars who played for team Valor in my smaller city (population of 10k--maybe 10 gyms). Mystic definitely holds the advantage in my city, and I would say as of last week it was 50% Mystic, 40% Valor, 10% Instinct. There was some pretty good back and forth at gyms between Valor and Mystic. Well, out of the 10 or so semi-regulars/regulars, I think there were 2 groups of 3ish players each, and a few randos/loner players like me, just comparing who would be in gyms at the same time. Last night, I go out to try and prestige a couple gyms, and I quickly notice that every gym in the city is now blue... I was going through the usernames and realized that what was once the highest level Valor player (High 30s, tons of great pokemon) and his squad of 2-3 teammates had all switched their accounts from Valor to Mystic. That leaves at best, 5 of us Valor players who play semi-regularly to compete in gyms, and we don't have a badass to lead us into battle. Shit, I may be one of the highest at level 26, and my Pokemon really aren't very good...The two gyms I took over last night were taken back by Mystic in about 15 minutes. I'm pretty butthurt about those guys switching teams because I have no idea how I'm supposed to compete and get coins unless I can find a couple gyms near work which is 40 miles away. I didn't even realize you could switch teams and thought it was a glitch when I first noticed it. I have seen a few of the regulars out a couple times, but they all look like weirdos/shoot-up-the-school types, and they seem to play in the middle of the night, so I really don't want to approach them.
I'm in Aspen for the next 10 days. Diglett is the rare common Pokemon here. I had one before today. I'm now 10 candies away from a Dugtrio
Yeah there's this rich kid who's a level 40. Must not be older than 18. In the winter I see him parked out in front of the gyms taking them down. Kinda sad if you take the game that seriously but good for him
that's a good feeling. I finally marked that prick off my list a few days ago. we don't have any 40s, a few hardcores in the low 30s and a handful at 35-36. 40 is absolutely fucking nuts and usually a sign of either severe no-lifers or, more likely, botters back when it was easy to do so. if I'd botted or was still in school I wouldn't be 25 now I'm sure I'd be in the low 30s but I only put in about 30 minutes after work to do my gyms, less if I already hold 1-2 still. on the weekend I'll do my Pokestop route for an hour to refill my bags completely but that's it now and I usually just catch what I see while driving or at home. just too damn cold to do any real walking and playing right now.
Same. I think they're fairly catchable in big cities so next time I go to Charlotte or DC that's probably what I'll hope for. I hope every 5k egg is a Porygon but I'm always disappointed. I desperately need like 2 Grimer hatches (or a nest) and a bunch of Machop as well.
want to get pissed? look at what this guy caught in a single day at his house now check out his rares (not collected in a single day) he also claims 3 Lapras but didn't SS them because he was afraid they'd run. the best theory someone put forth in the reddit thread was he lives at a place without a biome so the spawns pull from the whole dex. apparently you can see the same thing with incense if you drop one far away from any spawn points (like a kilometer or two).
So outside of Scyther and Aerodactyl I think I have every base Pokemon in my dex. Missing guys like Muk, Executor, Kabutops and a few others (but have the first guys collected) so if they could do a walking event soon that would be sweet.
I'm very much just a casual player, but I've noticed when I'm deer hunting in the middle of no where and drop an incense I pull some random pokemon, which is pretty cool.
I can't decide if I'm more amazed you don't have Scyther or Exeggutor. Are Exeggcutes that rare for you? I've got 3 and I just caught a couple at are 82+ IV(haven't checked yet beyond appraisal) that I'll be evolving soon when I get ready for my next mass evo. I mean they're not super common for me but getting 3-5 a day is pretty normal for me if I'm actively playing.
Yeah I think I've seen one and hatched one. Haven't even seen a Scyther in the wild nor have I hatched one. I got super lucky with Porygon and saw him on my radar by chance. I guess Canada is different. I see like 20 Taurus, 10 Seel/Shelder and 10 Jynx a day but the grass types are super rare.
you definitely live in a different biome from me, that's for sure. Scyther is a rare uncommon spawn but I've got nearly 100 candy now (and I want that for Scizor in gen 2, he's going to be really good). on the opposite side I had to hatch my Jynx, have only seen Seel at the beach and at a nest a few weeks ago, and have seen one Shellder ever and got a couple hatches to help me make Cloyster. without hatches I'd be nowhere on Jynx and those evos. I was essentially planning on waiting for the beach to help me make those.
Yeah I've never seen a Pinsir in the wild either but I've hatched one. Really want a Scyther so hoping I get one in a 10k egg soon
haha what. this doesn't even compute to me. I've probably ignored 90% of the Pinsirs I've tapped on they're so common, I only try to catch ones in the 1500-1600 CP range and see if they've got Fury Cutter/X-Scissor. they're just a big stupid thing that likes to spawn over top of stops and block me from spinning. they are stupidly good against Exeggutors, though, which is nice because those are as common around here as Pinsirs.
Have caught 3 or 4 Scyther and hatched 1, as for Jynx have yet to see or hatch one of those and only have caught 1 shelter
Have 7 Scythers, 8 Executors, and I ignore the fuck out of Pinsirs now. Flip side, never seen a Seel, Porygon, and 1 Shellder.
saw and caught my first ever Onyx and first ever Kabuto tonight also hatched a fucking Smoochem...still have 2 more 10k eggs cooking though, both over 9 km already
