Feeling pretty good about the first few days of catching I've been doing. Just sucks not having much idea what each thing is and if it's worth a damn. Just waiting on dragonscale, king rock, and metal coat for kingdra, steelix, and slowking now. They're primed with enough candies. Spoiler
Just saw that I'm sitting on a dragon's scale. Joke's on me because I only have 37 candies for my Seadra and I never see anything water
98 Teddiursa level 26, excited about that as Ursaring seems very strong. 45 CP Snorlax level 1, couldn't do anything but laugh. candy is candy, though. e: and 84 km later, Togetic. pretty happy about that one, first thing I've ever really walked up that much. walking Machop now, 46 candy to go there.
Machamp is arguably the best attacker in the game right now and the most set up for Snorlax and Blissey so I'm probably going to try and find a 96+ one and just get another 25 candy because the Machoke I have now is just a 71 and Machop is simply too rare for me to casually evolve one.
eh you gotta make a Politoed and a Slowking so might as well. if it's any consolation to the rest of you re: upgrade items the evos they make are almost entirely shit. Steelix is a passable defender (but will quickly be pushed out CP-wise as people make more Dragonites/Tyranitars and so forth) and Scizor is completely legit as an attacker but the rest are either useless (Porygon2, Bellossom, Sunflora, Politoed) or situational at best (Kingdra, Slowking). don't sweat making anything unless it's a Scizor because it's likely going to sit in your bags forever so just fill that dex slot whenever.
I do play when I'm driving (almost entirely just snagging stops, if I see something I desperately want to catch I pull over) or when someone else is driving but you get very little km from that, mostly just bounceback from opening it up a km or so from where you last were and having your toon port/run to your new spot and receiving the credit. I'd guess about 85-90% of that was walked. I use a proximity sensor app. it kills the screen when the sensor is covered but keeps the foreground app going which means my avatar is still walking but my battery isn't being murdered in the process. just throw it in my pocket like that and go get groceries or run errands and snag some km here and there.
if the new moves are confusing you here's a quick rundown for you related to the best attackers: - Counter is god tier quick move and lots of elite attackers have it (Machamp, Ursaring, Heracross, etc). Fighting types usually pair this with Close Combat but Machamp's best is Dynamic Punch. Ursaring has Hyper Beam but the key for all of them is to have Counter. - Dragon Breath and Outrage are your Dragon moves although legacy Dragonite movesets will win because Dragon Breath is still amazing (Gyardos, Dragonite, Kingdra) - New Dragonites will suck unless you get Dragon Tail and Outrage. Be prepared to be annoyed at those evos. - Gengar is king. Hex is the best quick move in the game and his charge move becomes almost irrelevant. Even his legacy Shadow Claw move works amazing now provided the charge is Shadow Ball or Sludge Bomb. When I mean good we're talking he's got 5 of the best 15 movesets in the game. Get a Gengar or two and you'll own gyms. - Flareons and Charizards matter now since Bug and Steel will make appearances as defenders. You need Fire Spin quick move for Flareon and preferably Overheat for both as the charge - Confusion and Futuresight are your best Psychic combo. Zen Headbutt is a close second to Confusion so don't sweat that but you really need FS. - Exeggutor needs Extrasensory now, preferably with Solar Beam. Confusion is a decent second. - What was Jolteon's shittiest move, Discharge, is now its best. Hope you kept any formerly shitty evos you made (I know I did) - Water's no longer king. Vape is dead, long live Vape (it's still OK when type matters but it's weak shit now) - Oh yea, Snorlax isn't great My attacker list advice: - 1 HP Vape - 1 Discharge Jolteon - 1 FS Flareon (if you manage an Air Slash/Overheat Charizard use that) preferably with Overheat - 1 Extrasensory Exeggutor and/or Futuresight Espeon - 1 Mud Slap Rhydon - A legacy Dragon Breath Dragonite if you have it - 1-2 Machamp, 1-2 Ursaring, 0-1 Heracross all with Counter - 2-3 Hex Gengars You really shouldn't need anything else and that should cover you for anything you encounter. Even if you want to ignore or don't have the specialized ones I mentioned for type advantage get Fighters and Gengar because you'll see very little resistance in gyms from them (only Tyranitar with Bite and Crunch will really trouble Gengar) and they're great against Normals like Snorlax and Blissey. Hope this is helpful.
What are the best moves for Steelix for gym defending? And is he as good as people thought he would be? How does he compare to a Snorlax or Blissey? 97 HP seems pretty low. :( Sitting on a 91 onyx and 89 candy.
Iron Tail/Heavy Slam I don't have a steelix personally, but they have the highest defense base stat in the game, so that's gotta count for something.
No idea. I don't do the gym game. I just collect em, so having him makeso me happy. Rape ape or someone could fill you in on the stats. Btw what app are people using that shows the IVs and such? I see it on screenshots but never know how people are getting the details. I've just been using the "battle with the best of em" in game quotes to judge.
Caught another Totodile today, also caught me a Cyndequil and Snubbull. Rest Areas seem to be a hot spot.
he's not, unfortunately. a perfect Steelix is just shy of 2100 CP at level 30 and only extremely high level players will probably have one that isn't automatically bottom bitch in a gym. Steel does type well and odds are people don't have a great Flareon or Charizard yet but still. the reality is he's just not going to make it in because of CP. if this was a fresh start then he'd probably be like Slowbro and hang around in gyms for a few months but for most people approaching or over level 30 even a maxed Steelix is probably not even in their top 15-20 for CP if not lower.
My hopes of having a gym running beast have been dashed. I'm level 30 and I really want to manage my stardust appropriately so idk if he's worth the max out.
mine, which will come much later since I have 3 Onix candy and my city spawns them sparingly, will just be for the dex entry, unfortunately.
Spoiler A week ago I thought I wouldn't give a shit about the new Pokémon. Today I just straight up walked out of work to chase these two. Guess I'm officially hooked again.
Caught a 1738 Gyarados yesterday at a poke stop. DT/HP with a 46.7 IV. I will take it. Worth all 400 magicarp candies I just saved.
Seems like a lot of these gen 2 guys are like that actually. I have 8 Granbulls now all between 1400 and 1600. I think I am done with him.
10k eggs are Miltank, Larvitar (and Pupitar and Tyranitar), Sudowoodo, Pineco (and Forrettress), Mareep (and Flaafy and Amparos), Gligar, Skarmory, and Mantine. everything but Tyranitar and Ampharos has spawned in my city.
