Day one: we explored downtown on foot.. Went to Powells which was awesome. Got donuts at voodoos then walked to the river and got food at some of the food carts along the way. Hipsters are everywhere. Gonna get breakfast soon then check out the rose garden before I get ready for the interview. After the interview we are going to check out angels rest since we will be on that side of town then gonna hammer the breweries. Obama is in town today by the way.
I mean if you leave that city without eating Pok Pok's chicken wings or getting a lap dance at Casa Diablo, I'm going to be disappointed in you. Also, if you're trying to get laid, Departure at the 9ines Hotel is your jammy jam.
If you're in town today, it's first Thursday in the Pearl. I would definitely recommend that. Tons of good looking women (especially since it's nice), food, art, bands, ect.
I wouldn't recommend anybody be downtown today since Obama is in town and going to be downtown. Traffic is going to be fucking brutal, but if you are staying in the area I'd go for it since he is absolutely correct about the women, food, art, etc.
Got some free weekend passes to WhiskeyTown so I will be hitting that up this weekend. I think its northwest on the waterfront by the Pearl. Never been before but 200+ whiskeys.... what can go wrong.
We are going to attempt to walk up Oneonta gorge tomorrow. If it's a bad idea someone talk me out of it. Also saw air force one with Mt hood in the background while driving. It was pretty badass
What school? Just depends on where you are at. Can't go wrong with the Pearl district, there used to be a little dog park out there too.
In a week and a half the movers pick up my shit. Will be out to corvallis by the 30th then will have until the 22nd before my job starts probably going to Seattle/Portland/Bend mini-vacations during that time
Dang you're gonna be out in Gresham then. That's pretty deep to downtown or some of the other hot spots.
In this case, live in NoPo with quick access to the Banfield. Area around Loyd Ctr has gotten so much nicer over the last 5 years.
They are building a ton of stuff over around the Alberta area too. The only downside will be parking. We might even be thinking of the same areas.
Maybe, I've been out of the snortland mix for awhile now. I picked up my buddy a few blocks north of LC to take him to a ducks game a few years ago, and the area was much, much better than what I'd remembered in HS. The 4-5 black people that lived in Portland at the time were driving Camrys and wearing pastel colored polo shirts. Tucked in. Now that's gentrified.
So im headed to portland in two weeks for orientation and to find a place..weve been looking online at places in the grant park/hollywood area as well as mt tabor area. Can any recommend some good gyms? Crossfit is stupid. But I would love a place that I can deadlift and use some kettlebells
I battled the Portland landlords and found a place that will allow my vicious dogs. Will be signing a lease tomorrow at a place off Prescott street in NE Portland.
going to be in Portland Thursday-Sat of the 18th-20th staying downtown with my wife and my brother as he comes to visit going to eat all the food and drink all the beer
DirecTV has B1G Network...all I care about, but yeah...missing out on 70% of Blazers game sucks balls
Hey Portland dudes - trying to plan a weekend to head out there to visit a buddy of mine. He is visiting me Labor Day weekend here in Denver, so I'm trying to spread out the visits a decent amount. I'm thinking the weekend of October 10-11 to visit him. How is the weather then? Will it be a crap shoot? Seems like it's been warmer and nicer than usual up there this summer so I'm hoping that means the nice weather will carry further into the fall.
It's definitely a crapshoot. Wouldn't be snowy or anything but may be rainy. Or it may be crisp at night but warmish in the day. Early fall is my favorite time of year here but we could see a lot of rain.
http://www.usclimatedata.com/climate/portland/oregon/united-states/usor0275 Historically it rains twice as much in October as it does in September here. The earlier in the month you get here, the better the chance that you have dry weather - statistically speaking. At the time of year you're talking about coming out, most likely it will be mid-60's temp with it getting down into the 40's at night and some rain.
Is there an easy way to get from Seattle to Portland without flying? Im trying to find a train or a good bus(not greyhound) and am open to suggestions. Thanks
I probably should have mentioned that Im not planning on renting a car while up there. If I need to I will, but Id like to be able to get work done while traveling.
I tend to go train over bus because if you get a bunch of shitty passengers it's easier to stay away from them on a half full train imo
