Anyone have a recommendation for a floor mat for an office chair? Thinking about just grabbing one from Staples but they seem to have some mixed reviews.

Don’t get that shit that’s like a rollable plastic mat. They’re garbage.

I have a polycarbonate plexiglass floor mat and it’s way better.

Looks like exactly what I need. You know if i'st good for a medium pile carpet? That's only slightly more than the Staples plastic mat for medium pile.

I’m not a carpet guy but I think it’d be fine. It’s a rigid piece of plexiglass so it really spreads the weight out. It’s kinda thick so you really notice if you go off it; that’s my only gripe really. I’ve thought buying another because I move around a lot in my chair.

Made a big IKEA run last month after spending some time designing new closet and pantry systems for the wife with their PAX Planner software. Finished assembly and am really pleased. Spent less than half of what I was quoted for a company to do just the master closet.

Tiled the master closet to match the master bath. Looks really good IMO. Took about 60 hours to assemble over 4 days taking my time.

FYI I would consider IKEA for future systems like this. We will probably end up doing the kids closets when they get older. The shelves and drawers are modular and are more sturdy than I thought they would be.

You do have to remove your baseboards for installation because they are designed to be anchored to the wall. I ended up anchoring differently from what they tell you do as well as connecting adjacent ones. I used their hardware to connect adjacent frames, just not where and how they suggested.

There are quite a few tricks to installation if anyone is curious, I can answer questions. Hardware, frames, and shelves were about $2200 which to me was a bargain and worth trying regardless how they came out. I had some leave saved up and used it to do them. My father in law helped make things go a bit faster and for moving the frames because once assembled they’re pretty awkward to move by yourself.

We have 9 foot ceilings and there are two different height systems to build for. If you have 8 foot ceilings you need to be careful during assembly. I had a friend assemble one of the floor and when they tipped it up it bumped into their ceiling. They had to buy a new frame. The instructions do provide guidance for assembling vertically which is what they ended up doing.

Thanks for the likes, it made my wife way more happy than I imagined. I should have done it when we moved in last year, but didn’t have the time.

Great question. So up top my wife has overflow baskets. They’re all labeled now so overflow snacks have their spot. Part of having a pantry where everything has a place and is neat is ensuring you don’t buy too many of one thing or cram stuff everywhere.

As you can see from the before pictures we struggled with this very thing. It brought order to chaos. I feel like Thanos.

When I did my kitchen with Ikea, the design was the hardest part. My wife actually assembled the cabinets while my dad & I hung them. The cabinets are a breeze but absolutely do not open any other box(es) than the ones for the cabinet you are assembling at that time.

I’ll add in a recommendation for their kitchen cabinet planing service as well. I did them on a condo renovation and it was easy, relatively inexpensive, and the quality is above average.

Yes! The pax planner took a long time to figure out and use. I spent the better part of a few weeks in the evening messing with it and measuring and then measuring again the spaces.

At times it was almost paralysis of analysis with all the options for inside the frames. In the closet I ended up sticking to symmetry as best and possible and then let drawers for the wife’s side try and line up with where a bottom section of hung clothes would.

Having the spaces as even between shelves as possible really makes the system look clean. It forced my wife to relocate some things in the pantry but she didn’t care because the lines look so good.

I like you didn’t open more than one thing at a time. The OCD in me allowed me to stay in check. Plus too many past mistakes getting screws lost or used incorrectly played a part as well.

Fun fact, I had no idea IKEA did cabinets. I want to put a row up in our laundry room so I will definitely be looking into that.

Those both look awesome and I ended up sharing that pantry pic with my wife. We are going to do ikea’s pax system for our closer, but might need to look into doing it for the pantry now too.

I did ikea kitchen cabinets in my current house and they are not too bad to put together. Uppers are pretty easy to hang too. I was nervous at first on how much they could hold, but they’ve worked out great. Would recommend to anyone who doesn’t want to spend too much on cabinets, but still wants a nice setup.

Thanks! It’s honestly pretty easy to budget for and to do depending on your space. The pantry system was less than $600 as a reference point. I’m not sure what you’re working with. We felt similar though—deal with it as long as we can but honestly looking back at our before pictures gives me a level of anxiety I don’t have to deal with anymore.

I’m much neater than my wife and doing this also gave her zero excuses moving forward. That was all the motivation I needed. Now she has zero excuses and handles the accountability comments like pick your crap up off the floor and hang it up much better than she used to.

Another thing I forgot to add was that I bought about 2400 of little 3/8” white plugs to fill in all the extra holes in the frames. It’s taken a while but I’ve done a hundred here and there and I think it looks nicer. You can get a bag of 300 on Amazon for like $8.
