There's a lot of ways to respond to this, including pointing out the obvious corruption that was involved in awarding that one connected company the contract to restore power, but I'd just suggest that the Obama cabinet would have at all levels managed the recovery effort more effectively and with a greater sense of urgency. Patrick O'Neil gave a talk at a company event I was at. It is on YouTube is a similar form. It is a great listen. I believe 17.3% of it.
I know War Grundle very well. I disagree with him quite often on politics and we've gotten into it a couple of times. He's very much a pull yourself up by the boot straps kind of guy. I disagree with much of his politics in this thread but I can tell you he has no ill will in any of his opinions. The guy does have a lot of Hispanic and African American friends. He might be well served to discuss these types of issues with them but he's not much of a lets talk politics person. Just wanted to point out he's not some go team Trump and white people lunatic.
TMB was a much better place when people could drop n-bombs with impunity and not get called out for it
Up until the end of the episode last night, he had always struck me as someone who was just profoundly disinterested in politics and his views were mostly built off of inertia and what he inherited from his parents. Seeing the resentment towards the liberal "elites" of Oregon was definitely a new look for him. He probably would be well served to talk to some of those minority friends of his about what Trump and modern GOP rhetoric represent to them.
His political views resemble what mine did prior to me getting interest in politics and I then became much more liberal in certain areas. It's hard to have a nuanced discussion like this over the internet and I think a lot of the more liberal posters on this board are extremely quick to attack anyone who says anything that can be even slightly construed as pro-Trump. I mean going through the Trump thread there are various posts saying anyone that voted for Trump are racists and traitors and several posts that maybe they should be put to death. A lot of it is way overboard and sounds like what crazy GOP say about liberals. I think someone like War Grundle gets defensive very quickly because he sees some of the posts as him being called a racist. I don't think that was done here but anyone that is conservative is jumpy with these political discussions currently. Conservatives need to realize there is a large world out there outside of your personal bubble and friends/family and don't make broad generalizations based on your own experiences because your friends/family even if minorities may be in a very different world that other minorities.
Cosign on the internet being a poor venue for nuanced discussion. It's like tailor made to be shitty for it. It feeds into the outrage and sniping that happens on both sides.
