really wish more people came out for the menzingers lubbock show they were so much better than dead to me (obv) and against me sigh
For the Lucero fans - one of Ben Nichols first band's has a free download here. Pretty catchy tunes. http://www.mediafire.com/?wnmntzewfhn
spun the new menzingers probably 4-5 times at this point - to me its without a doubt not as strong as chamberlain waits, not even close. i still enjoy it quite a bit, its very different from their other two lps - apart from a little bit of filler (i.e. "on the impossible past") gotten through tycoon a few times as well, and it is pretty much canyoneer part 2 which is what i wanted so im good with it downloading some of the orgs "your favorite from january" albums from bands that ive never listened to like waxahatchee, loma prieta and cloud nothings (the punx-ness level of a couple of those is questionable from what ive read)
I couldn't agree more. I give it an 8/10 with Chamberlain Waits being a 10/10. I really don't mind punk bands maturing, but there is too much focus on Greg Barnet's vocals on this record. I truly appreciate how melodic the record is but Chamberlain Waits was catchier, and it had maturity mixed with energy that carried out through the entire album. I love Tom May's vocals. Only two, maybe three songs have him singing lead vocals. May's vocals were utilized much more effectively in CW. I don't want to sound like I don't like it, because I truly do appreciate a complete album like this. I love the Menzingers so much because of the energy and the power punk that comes with their music, and it just disappoints me a tad that this album misses that.
New Menzingers is awesome. Think its just as good as Chamberlain Waits. I don't like the choice of two singles though. Think "Mexican Guitars" and "Burn After Writing" should have been the singles. Its weird, when TGA slowed down the tempo on the third album I thought it produced by far their worst, but with The Menzingers I think it might be their best. I think I may just be forgetting how good Chamberlain Waits was though
I really do think you are forgetting how fantastic Chamberlain Waits is. There is only one truly weak track on that album (I Was Born). After listening to it a few more times, I do agree that it is fantastic. Mexican Guitars, Burn After Writing, and Nice Things are the best songs on the album. I do not care for Gates an Sun Hotel at all.
2012: the year of the "really good, but not quite as good as the previous release albums" sharks, lucero, no trigger, the shins (pretending wincing the night away doesnt exist), cursive (very mediocre actually but im still putting it on here), the menzingers, the flashbulb, the sidekicks, ulrich schnauss, cheap girls a lot of that list is NOT PUNX but still
hola.....Im pretty sure you guys arent as big on them as me but Anti Flags the general strike was leaked early. Downloading that, no trigger and menzingers now. Ive been so behind. real life stuff sucks and so does fighting an inner ear infection for over a week then to start feeling better only to have learned it moved to giving you pink eye. fuck!
vocals are too cleaned up - if it wasn't lucero I might like it. Who knows though, it may grow on me with time, but I was pretty damn disappointed when I first listened.
upgraded my record setup with a marantz receiver so i decided to KOP a few records as well sharks - no gods sharks - the joys of living 2008-2010 the gaslight anthem - american slang samiam - trips the horrible crowes - elsie bad religion - the process of belief
i hate this cassette revival stuff - records please, cassettes are gay after listening to the new joyce manor i can safely say they are my least favorite orgcore band out there outside of bomb the music industry
rega rp1 --> marantz pm5004 integrated amplifier (coming in on wednesday) --> cheap m-audio monitors i desperately need to step my speaker game up soon but for now the monitors do fine and the receiver has a headphone amp so ill use that
top 5 as of march 28th sharks - no gods the menzingers - on the impossible past the jealous sound - a gentle reminder no trigger - tycoon lucero - women & work
New Arliss Nancy will switch that top five up - no youtube for these songs yet. Fans of two cow garage will need to check this out - I'm looking at you Taques. http://ninebullets.net/archives/arliss-nancy-simple-machines
i love TA the monitor is one of my favorite albums of all time. got it sitting on my record player at home
new hot water music single off of exister http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRF6UOm19sc oh god i cant wait album of the year right here
Punk fans I need some music suggestions. I grew up listening to hard rockesque stuff Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, ect but I'm tired of that shit and looking to branch out. One of my good friends was in Inspection 12 and he's been giving me suggestions. I'm a really big fan of Strung Out because they have the metal roots which I like but my buddy is having a hard time thinking of bands similar to them. Suggestions?
propagandhi (specifically the album "supporting caste") and a wilhelm scream are pretty similar to strung out - AWS less so because its much faster/more aggressive (but the metal roots that you like will be there) but if you like that, you could also listen to the latest flatliners album that came out a couple years back. restorations is also something i think you may enjoy other options you may like: crazy arm, bad religion, hot water music, lagrecia, polar bear club & titus andronicus not punk but the republic of wolves are also good but there is also a lot of subgenres that range from the increasingly popular folk-punk & cowpunk to pop to etc etc etc to the bands that the few of us on tmb circlejerk to
im all for catchy music - ill probably spin it a couple times and forget about it shortly thereafter though
there's a link on that site - you can get two hard copies and a digital download for $10. feel compelled to do it even though what typically gets anything I want.
propagandhi was actually mentioned by my friend specifically that album as well. Going to download it. Bill I liked Bad Religion. Going to take me a bit to be all about it though. my biggest hold up on punk is the whiny nature of many punk bands voices. I'm just used to that booming rock voice which is why I like Strung Out. I like Bad Religion's style though.
