Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here my favorite Face to Face song ... Face to Face - Disconnected did anyone here listen to the Suicide Machines? one of Detroit's finest acts IMO The Suicide Machines - Islands
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here disconnected is my favorite face to face song as well suicide machines were badass, i have battle hymns sitting on my table right now i think this years polar bear club may be my favorite album of the year - just off the top of my head. and the new a wilhelm scream is my favorite ep

Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic h To many fucking embedded youtube videos on this page. Shit is bringing back some memories. SoCal Punk is what I listened to in Middle School/High School & got into some more Scream-o, Experimental, Post-Hardcore stuff. I'm not going to post a bunch of videos....... Grew up on this shit.... Pennywise Strung Out Good Riddance No Use For A Name Mellincollin (sp?) Misfits Bad Religion Guttermouth Face to Face Unwritten Law No Avail Rancid Any Fat Wreck/Epitaph/Nitro band will probably fit. In College started rocking out to.... Thursday (Full Collapse is GOAT) Thrice Strike Anywhere Alkaline Trio Anti-Flag Coheed and Cambria New Found Glory (Some good Pop Punk is rockin. First few albums are better than their others) Listen to all of the above with some metal core shit like.... Bane Evergreen Terrace From First to Last Senses Fail Poison the Well Fall of Troy Circa Survive A day to remember Along with rock & roll/indie I guess punkish stuff like.... Anberlin Gas Light Anthem (one of my favs the past two years or so) Amber Pacific Academy Is....(don't like their newest album to much) Dustin Kensure (Thrice's Lead singer. Sick Solo album. Very Cash-esq & edgy) Rise Against I'm sure I left some shit off. Give me some recs if you have any.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here right with you stuhly on the 'grew up with' list, thanks for bringing up Millencollin, this was one of my anthems during my ska/punk days No Cigar Taxes i saw the Suicide Machines at least five times in middle/high school, did you ever get to see them live?
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic h I haven't listened to the Suicide Machines in a long time. New Girl, Islands are both great songs. All my CDs got stolen a while back & my hard drive crashed twice in college when I had 1000 albums. I'm slowly building it back up. I need to get some SM. On some good Ska Bands.....Less than Jake had some good shit. Losing Streak was a solid ass album & they put on a great show..... Less Than Jake - Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts - Live
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic h The misfits are my favorite punk band. Just something about them. Misfits - Hybrid Moments Misfits bullet American Nightmare - Misfits
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic h You can't deny the shear heaviness of their music. I was barely alive when they were rocking in the early 80s. I saw the new misfits w/ Dr. Chud & Michale Graves at the Masquerade in ATL in 2000 right before they broke up. Easily one of my top shows I've ever been to. I saw 'em a few years later when they were doing the 25 anniversary tour w/ Dez, Robo & Jerry Only was singing. Solid Small show in B'ham with maybe 200 kids.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic h see that would be fucking awesome i heard american nightmare on a vans commercial back in junior high and searched for all of their stuff for the next few days and was instantly hooked. I still like the michale graves stuff, just dont think that anything could compare to the sheer power of danzigs voice. from the graves era i do like: -Saturday night -Scream -Dig Up her Bones just to name a few. some pretty good stuff from famous monsters.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here I can put in american pshyco and listen all the way through and repeat. Sick album. Famous monsters was ok.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here nah i never got to see the suicide machines unfortunately - not much comes around these parts millencolin is one of the saddest cases in punk music. they used to make great pop punk but now they are one of the worst bands in the genre. machine 15 was an abomination
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here Unwritten Law - California Sky
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here NOFX - I heard they suck live, was one of the first punk albums I got. Fucking awesome.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here NOFX's "Punk in Drublic" and Strung Out's "Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues" are two albums that just blew my mind when I first heard them and my life was never the same.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here punk in drublic and so long and thanks for all the shoes are by far my favorites by them that split they had with rancid was great as well
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here White Trash, Two Heebs, and a Bean was awesome as well. El Jefe's first full length and started to see some more ska, and the awesome cover of Minor Threat's song Straight Edge. Plus, Fat Mike's infatuation with lesbians was first heard. Ribbed and Heavy Petting Zoo are very underrated. But then they had to go a release the GOAT piece of punk:
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here I always ike Ribbed, it's just a point in time when their act was a little more fresh. Now, it's just too formulaic. I've probably mentioned these guys before, but check out a band called The Line. Their album, auricle, is one of my favorite punk albums of all time.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic h I still listen to this album. 13 years old & it still rocks. Solitaire, Rottin' Apple, Radio Suicide, Firecracker....the whole fucking album rocks.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here I honestly have no idea what quantifies as punk I listen to a shit ton of music, but some of the music listed here as punk I never thought so how about I throw some names out there and you tell me: Iggy Bad Religion Anti-Flag Dropkick Murphys Flogging Molly Senses Fail The Ramones Evergreen Terrace The Distillers Rise Against No Use For A Name Unwritten Law Lag Wagon Five Iron Frenzy (Yea I know...) Goldfinger Reel Big Fish Millencolin Bullet For my Valentine Less Than Jake AFI Big D and the Kids Table Agent Orange Dead Kennedys The Buzzcocks Rancid Gogol Bordello
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic h Punk & all the sub genres get annoying. It was Punk, then SoCal style punk was pretty big in the 90s, then Emo came along & broke off, then Hardcore started popping up more and more, then it blended with Metal & you get Metalcore & Post-Hardcore & I guess people that want to be known as better artists & say they are Melodic Hardcore. All of it has its roots from Punk Rock & branched off. I can't find as much SoCal, Epitaph/Fat Wreck style punk as much anymore that I dig as much as the stuff that was coming out in the 90s. There is some solid melodic & post hardcore bands around.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here Buzzcocks are one of the best pop-punk bands of all time. They are true pop-punk, not that crap that is being portrayed as such these days. The Buzzcocks Ever fallen in love
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here Cartel's album Chroma is pretty good and so is Say Anything's album ...Is a real boy. wow, I can get sexual too Say Anything- Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here I always loved Screeching Weasel for pop-punk. Sreeching Weasel - Hey Suburbia
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here I used to listen to a ton of punk back in the day. I still listen to a lot of DIY punk/crust/metal ( some of the stuff in the heavy metal thead is very punk influenced) Punk attitude and DIY ethic but increased influence by metal. I still like some pop-punk and some of the old school hardcore punk like Minor Threat, Bad Brains, etc. Most ska bands got on my nerves but these bands are cool IMO. Choking Victim - Infested Lifestyle of Rebellion - Destroy What Destroys You - Against All Authority Leftover Crack - Burn them prisons And then after all the ska I'll throw this out here. Propagandhi - Ska Sucks Really good pop-punk IMO - Sloppy Seconds I dont wanna be a homosexual

Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here what do punk-lovers love about punk?
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here For me, it is two things. I love the attitude of punk music, the whole "fuck you, I'll do what I want" thing has always resonated with me. Secondly, and most importantly, if you can get past the aggressive music and the screaming the underlining message of the music is thought provoking and informative, the majority of the bands I listen to anyway. I can say without a doubt that had I not found out about this kind of music, specifically hardcore punk music, back in high school I would not be as socially aware as I am today. I have been exposed to so many different viewpoints on a wide variety of subjects from all over the world because of this music.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here so basically the message and the attitude. you're probably going to get flamed for saying that listening to this stuff made you more socially aware.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here People will only flame if they have not heard bands like Crass, Dead Kennedys, Discharge, Aus-Rotten, Born Against.. etc. So, flame on.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here Bigwig, never fully got their due BigWig - Sink or Swim Straight Faced, this band would be enormous in today's scene Revolve - Straight Faced Union 13, East Los representing Union 13 - Who Are You
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here I agree. Punk and hardcore helped make me more socially aware and was infuential on a lot of my views when I was growing up. The only people that would flame you for that probably aren't aware of the depth of social commentary that many bands have. To me punk is more of a mind set then a rigid musical structure. I consider a lot of bands to be "punk" that maybe don't necessarily sound like the Sex Pistols or NOFX, etc., etc. I'm just saying to me it doesn't have to follow an A + B formula to be considered punk. To me the real punk rock of this day are the underground bands that keep local scenes alive and network music and ideology worldwide. IMO a lot of bands today that play crust, hardcore, thrash, grind and many different styles today have the true punk essence and to me that is true punk. Now don't get me wrong, I love a lot of traditional punk and a little bit of pop punk too. I'm just saying it's more than just music. It's all about kids getting together and starting your own venue, doing house shows, food not bombs, services for the community, booking bands and meeting new people. The do-it-yourself ethic and the sense of community. To me it's a productive outlet of anger at social injustice. It's not like punk music made me the person I am today but it did make me more socially conscious and made me think about what I could do as an individual to make the world a better place. Plus the music kicks ass. xmauinix - I noticed that you're a Gator fan. Do you live in Florida? Just curious if you ever listened to Asshole Parade and some of those No Idea bands. I think they were based out of Gainesville. If I'm remembering correctly Asshole Parade, Palatka, No Comly, Combat Wounded Veteren and some other bands were part of that scene. I heard a scary rumor that No Idea had turned kinda emo. Man I hope that's not true b/c those bands were cool back in the day.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here You are 100% correct. People that are not involved with this kind of music on a much more grassroots, underground sense will not understand the depth of the music. The term "punk" has been thrown around so much in the past couple of years to describe bands that are not at all what punk is about. Punk is an attitude and state of mind and half of these bands that are labeled as such couldn't be further from what punk truly is. The sound is only a tiny bit of what makes a band punk. Hell, Death In June is more punk than half of the bands mentioned in this thread. I am actually from Georgia, but went to school @ UF and I'm very familiar with all of the Gainesville, Florida bands. Asshole Parade, I Hate Myself, Die Hoffnung, Religious As Fuck, Dead Friends .. just to name a few. They have a great scene down there.
Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here Cool, it looks like we're on the same page. It sounds like Gainesville has a cool scene. It's been a while since I've listened to those guys and few of those names are new to me. Looks I have some new bands to check out.

Re: are there enough punk music fans to have an official punk discussion topic here Glad to see this thread. Slowly getting back into hardcore. I lost interest a few years back when it seemed like every band I liked was breaking up, like Champion, With Honor (new singer), Give Up The Ghost, etc. For sure taking some suggestions here.
