Hard to argue at this point. Let's hope he excels at the main aspect we brought him in for which is his coaching.

Completely agree, but can you blame kids with options for not signing up to play for a HC and assistants who can't point to any evidence they can get it done at this level? I mean, I think there's a lot of indicators that Ash and co. will succeed but if I'm a recruit I want to see some results before I sign on to be somewhere for 4/5 years.

If we come out next year and look like a more disciplined, prepared team I have no doubt the recruiting loses to the temples, indianas and bcus of the world will end. Competing eith the teams at the top of our division on the other hand, thats going to take awhile.

Liked the strategy here. Our staff saw the writing on the wall early that no kids with any decent offers were going to come and instead of recruiting underwhelming guys from territories they were already familiar with, they used the 2 months to pound the pavement in NJ and surrounding areas and get commits/build relationships with sme of the better local programs. Admittedly, the guys they got are underwhelming as well, but whoever we were bringing is probably going to get recruited over in the next 2 to 3 cycles- may as well be a Jersey kid who helps us open up a door to one of the better local high schools

Trying to watch your basketball team. Corey Sanders is good, but a bit wild. The rest of the team is going to give me a stroke. I hate Illinois, so I'm really hoping you pull out OT

Actually he admitted he wouldn't talk to kids on OSU's board out of respect for Meyer so I'm not sure if that's what you don't agree with. We here know better than anyone we wouldn't have had a shot with any of those kids anyway but when you have a man sign a contract to coach in the same conference as his mentor the dick sucking needs to stop sooner rather than later.

And Ash coaching your D in the bowl game was 100% unnecessary. It was just another "show of respect" to Meyer.

    Boo hoo

The dead period started 7 days after Ash took the job and didn't end until January 14th. I don't really see the big deal about Ash coaching the bowl game. It's not like he was still actively recruiting for OSU

I understand where you're coming from and some day, maybe when we get our full share of the B1G pie, we will hire a true killer who could give a rusty fuck about "finishing this or that" and "respect for the man who gave me a chance" bullshit and just be the fucking remorseless machine the big boys in our league seem to have.

It's a Rutgers problem and has been that way forever. I don't fault you one bit for looking at it as whining. You never have to put up with this shit.

laurent is going to have a very nice career. he still looks young and needs more physical development.

our bball team has done a poor job with strength training over the years. how goode can still look that small and get on the court is beyond comprehension.

i'm sure he will get "dane millered" i.e. lead the league statistically for freshmen but not win freshman of the year. lance stephenson had that award won before he even stepped on the court.

I had a moment with Ricky Shields at MSG after the quarter final game of the NIT the year we went to the finals.

We were seated close to the court about a section back and after the game he was walking right past my seats. Now, this was right around the time Chapelle's Rick James skit was HUGE so as he walks by I yell "That's Rick Shields BITCH!" He stops dead in front of me, turns and says "Yo man that's my mom behind me." I went from smiling and happy because we had just won to "Oh shit" in about half a second. The second he saw the oh shit face he puts on this big grin and says "Yeah it's my mom but she loves that stuff" gave me a high five and kept on going.

Bought Herve a beer in Olde Queens the night he hit a buzzer beater to beat SHU (I think).

But....you won't recognize the improvements in positions like RB and DL? Possibly OL? Even DB, despite the issues, is in better shape than what Flood inherited. Flood did not move the program forward, perhaps, but it did not go backwards either as you suggest and he certainly did not move it 5 years backward in 3 recruiting classes, lol.

lol i have funny stories of both. my boy used to live on herves floor, smoked all the time with him. eventually my friend would sell nuggets to the entire mens bball team. i blamed him for our team not making the tourny any of those years, it was powerful shit these guys would smoke before games. i imagine if my friend did not sell to the team that we would have made it. i really believe that.

i played beerpong with shields at a house party. at this party my campus crush walked in, gretchen the cheerleader. me and ricky ran the table for a bunch of games, i was building up to go approach her, next thing i know, ricky is banging her in the bathroom. /dreams LOL

as far as recruiting and this class, im ok with it. id rather ash fill it up the way he wants rather then just get kids to fill in. i mean he had 2 weeks really, thats not enough time. hes a smart dude and knows what hes doing, not worried.

we got the qb, frankly he may be the highest rated qb or qb with the best offers we ever signed here. he also brought in a bunch of linemen, who may or may not work out, but they have the pedigrees and they have the nj school connection, it was a good move to bring them in. how many walkon or under the radar olinemen in the big ten become decent? more than you think

i really like how many lbs we brought in. we are so thin there, and we need lbs not only to play defense but special teams, so we have a ton of guys who could make very good special team guys if they dont pan out.

lastly i like kj gray and hayes, we brought in dbs and increased the competition in the secondary, which we really need to push everyone there to get better.

Wrestling drops another one in conference. With how some guys looked tonight, specifically late in their matches...I'm not feeling good at all about Michigan on one day rest. Gave away a lot of leads in the 3rd. But also some really exciting matches for wins.

Hard to pull out a W when your first wrestler goes from winning with 15 seconds left to putting your team down 6 by getting pinned with 4 seconds left...

All came down to the last match and I really thought they were gonna pull it out.

I really hope we can pull out a win because I don't want us to drop any further in the rankings.

What is Rutgers football boot camp like?
    [IMG] Ryan Dunleavy, @rydunleavy2:53 p.m. EST February 7, 2016

PISCATAWAY – Only three weeks into his college career, Solomon Manning has no baseline for which to compare the supposedly intensified Rutgers football winter conditioning program.

But his veteran teammates do, and Manning senses they are feeling the rude awakening, too.

“They’re just as surprised and shocked as I am,” said Manning, who graduated early from Colonia High School to enroll in January. “As hard as it is for me, it’s just as hard for them as well.”

Rutgers coach Chris Ash promised to put the team through grueling offseason training to test who is strong enough not to break. Ash left strength and conditioning coach Kenny Parker – whom he considers his most important hire – in charge of what he described as a “boot camp.”

Chris Ash promised to put the team through grueling offseason training to test who is strong enough not to break. Ash left strength and conditioning coach Kenny Parker – whom he considers his most important hire – in charge of what he described as a “boot camp.”

Manning and fellow mid-year freshmen enrollees Elorm Lumor, Trey Sneed and Jonathan Pollock gave up another semester of being the big man on campus to feel the burn.

“From the first day, it’s harder than anything I’ve ever done,” Sneed said. “The stuff we do is no different than what everybody does, but it’s just the way we do it.

“(Parker) always preaches attitude and effort. In order to make it in these workouts – how brutal they are – effort is the only way. If you are not giving the right effort, they are going to let you know and then we are going to redo it.”

Ash and Parker both came from Ohio State, where the offseason blueprint was established. It is especially applicable right now at Rutgers, which had last season ruined by a combination of off-field disciplinary problems and on-field issues stemming from being undersized.

“To see the progress that they have made in the short time that we have been here,” Ash said, “with Coach Parker and his staff down in the weight room has been phenomenal.”

Rutgers swapped a style of training closer to cross-fit for something closer to strength building.

An average workout consists of two hours in the weight room and then another two-plus hours of non-football drills on the field, players say. They began at 5 a.m. at first but have been pushed back to 6 a.m.

“I get tired, my muscles are fatigued, they’re hurting, I’m burning, I feel like I have nothing left,” Manning said, “and they teach me that I still have something left even though my mind is telling me there’s nothing left.”

Lumor, a Piscataway High School product, spent one semester at a prep school but he is adjusting just like the high schoolers.

“They’ve been tough, but it’s good that it’s been tough because it’s a grind,” Lumor said. “My legs are sore, but they’ve got to be sore if you want to get better.”

Perhaps no member of the 2016 recruiting class was more gung-ho entering Rutgers than two-year commit Pollock. The combination snow and workouts can’t budge the Florida native's enthusiasm much.

“I love this place a lot. I consider it my home,” Pollock said. “There have been moments where I’m dead tired and we’re running sprints and I’m freezing and looking around at the snow and I’m like, ‘What am I doing here?’ Nah, it’s awesome. I love it.”

The fastest way for a freshman to make enemies with a senior is to make a mistake that causes the entire team to have to repeat the rep. Likewise, perfection will make you popular.

With a new staff that emphasizes the little things, perfection is a difficult ideal to achieve.

“I expected nothing was going to be easy and I was going to have fight and work hard and earn everything,” Pollock said. “The difference (now) probably is attention to detail: Running two yards past the line, how you rack a weight, what you eat, get to class 15 minutes before it starts.”

Regardless of the start time, the strength coaches are buzzing like its midday when players arrive.

“They give you nothing but their all, they give you nothing but energy,” Sneed said. “You can see how bad they want it for us and how bad they want us to want it.

“They want us to hold each other accountable. You are starting to see that in only two weeks. Leaders are starting to emerge and you are starting to see everybody pick up the slack of everybody else. We see what we can become.”

New Brunswick has got a bunch of different types of places, are you looking for a more college scene, young professional, or fancy? The classic Rutgers/New Brunswick joint is Stuff Yer Face, famous for the bolis (stromboli). A cool more young-professional food spot would be Destination Dogs (check out the menu) and Clydz for drinks.

The rule of thumb is anything on or near Easton Ave is going to be the college/undergrad scene, and anything on/near George Street is going to be a little less college and better for things like craft beer and decent cocktails. Other drinking spots i'd recommend on George St are Old Bay, Harvest Moon (brew their own beer), and GS Ale House.

Clydz: Get a martini with a funky name and order up whatever crazy game meat they've got on the menu this week. It's cold out so the fireplace should be going full blast by the bar. Chicks dig the fireplace.

Stage Left: Has one of the highest rated hamburgers in NJ and NJ has a metric fuck ton of good hamburgers.

Find a Greasetruck and get a Fat Sandwich. It's kinda our thing. I will swear til I die Jimmy's (storefront) makes the best Fat Sandwich but everyone has their favorite place. Jimmy makes a great gyro too fwiw.

World of Beer: They have a lot of beer from around the world and a supersized Jenga.

Make sure you get something with TAYLOR HAM (Punch anybody who calls it Pork Roll in their stupid face. You will skate, it's a crime to call it that here) for breakfast.
