I've wondered that myself. If you look at pics of baseball games from the fifties, every man there is wearing a hat.
I saw an article that the custom of wearing a hat was starting to trend downward but that JFK really accelerated it by not wearing one to his inauguration.
For how long did the horse and carriage remain on the streets in NYC? You see both car and horses in those videos.
I guess I’ll be “that guy” in this thread this morning… Long after the automobile became popular, there were still horses in New York City because the average delivery truck didn’t have enough horsepower (and the first tires didn’t have enough friction) to pull heavy loads up the hill. Teams of horses would be stationed at the bottom of hills to help trucks pull their loads up the hill. This is how the brotherhood of Teamsters got both their name and their logo. When I was a kid, you could still get a horse drawn carriage ride in New York City. If you’ve seen the movie Ghostbusters, Rick Moranis was warning a horse Of the arrival of Zuul. Nowadays, animal rights groups are trying to get horse and carriages made illegal in New York – Especially in the summer due to the heat. I think they are limited to Central Park at the moment.
Compare that to Charleston. Horse drawn buggies and trailers everywhere and it’s hot as fuck But it’s ok for the bicycle taxis and let those men/women suffer
Not just the hats but the full dress on every person is amazing. I need eggs on Saturday morning....just going to run down to the store in my three piece suit real quick.
Feel like that record needs to be adjusted to take into account that the take off point is at least a foot higher than the water.
A top tier long jumper would beat that number if they were jumping into water because they could land head first.
I just went to check the long jump world records. Why hasn’t anyone broken the record (male or female) in almost 30 years? Steroids?
