In a history or cultural studies class or something you could assume dumb/trying to hard/racist or a combo of all three - but in a math class....

 

Trigonometry. SOH CAH TOA is a mnemonic for functions of sine, cosine, tangent. Obviously no way to teach that without aggressively minstrelizing Native Americans

 

Good lord. Yea we never got that mnemonic. Probably for the best.

She really committed to the bit. I teach my students mnemonic devices but I've never brought in themed headwear to drive the point home

…and I’m 90% sure that we learned about “Chief Soh Cah Toa”, the American Indian who invented trigonometry, (in the 1980s) in order to drive home the mnemonic so that part isn’t new.

edit #2 - a quick google image search for Chief Soh Cah Toa shows that it’s still widely used today.
