The songs use the same line/refrain then?
How the hell can someone confuse the Counting Crows with John Mayer
The "Big Yellow Taxi" Debate
So my dad and I may be experiencing a mutual glitch of some sort. My dad was talking to me about how he never knew the song "Big Yellow Taxi" by John Mayor was a cover, he always thought his was the original. As soon as he said that, I had a similar reaction. I looked up the original, by Joni Mitchell, and we both listened.
After, I went to go and listen to the John Mayer version, only to find that it doesn't exist. Apparently, the "popular" version that I was very sure was done by John Mayer was actually done by Counting Crows. I listened to it and it sounded... off. I can't explain it to you. Just doesn't sound exactly the way I remember it. I played it for my dad and asked him if that was the song he remembered, and he told me "No, the version by John Mayer had rougher vocals." I had to say I agreed with him, the version I remembered had more unpolished vocals that the Counting Crows version, it also ended differently. I told him that I couldn't find any version at all by John Mayer online, and I searched around a lot. My dad told me he knew John Mayer did a version of it somewhere because he watched a concert on TV of John Mayer singing it.
In my searching online, I only found one person on Yahoo answers asking for the name of the John Mayer song with the lyrics to Big Yellow Taxi, and a bunch of people directed them to the Counting Crows song.
Normally, I'd just brush this off as me being forgetful or not knowing, but the idea that my dad, someone who doesn't even like John Mayer very much and who is also pretty good with music, is also very adamant, even telling me he saw a concert of him singing it, is what's making me leery. Are we both just crazy, mistaken, or forgetful, or is there really something weird here? Did John Mayer actually cover this at some point and it's just that my extensive searching didn't find it? Do any of you remember John Mayer singing this?
He sang it
Yeah this version doesn't sound quite like the 2000s version I remember.
Sounds right to me
same. I'm guessing Mayer probably did a cover during a tour but never officially recorded his version of it...either that or the reddit guy and his dad are smoking crack
Currently shitting liquid for the 5th time today. But hey WFH so I can still work today and don’t have to use PTO woohoo.
This sucks though goddamn what is this bug
So weird. I've also always remembered it being a Mayer song from early 2000s.
Reminds me of this pod about a song that doesn't exist that a dude swears he remembers and only a handful of people on the internet claim sounds familiar. Super entertaining pod.
This was a great ride with a very good conclusion.
RIP Reply All
another dynamite drop in, randy
god you're the absolute worst
I feel like I've listened to this before but I'm a couple of minutes in and am all in again
I just realized there is both Randy Bobandi and Randy Bobandy
They also joined the site 10 days apart.
A mans gotta eat
So where's the picture of the guy who took that picture?
Anybody have experience with constantly straining/tearing your lower back muscles? I haven’t done it will working out, and I’ve been stretching a lot.
but twice in the last four months I’ve pulled a lower back muscle doing random stuff around the house. Once in my right side, this time on my left.
last night I put a dish down in the sink and it started feeling weird. 10 minutes later I couldn’t get up, sit down, our stand without being in excruciating pain.
Welcome to no longer being young. In other words, you are old now.
For real though, best of luck.
Happened to me for the first time last fall. I’d been doing a lot of heavy lifting and moving as we remodeled in preparation for selling our house. My lower back was sore, but like an idiot I just powered through and one day I was just sliding around the really lightweight sofa and bam something went in my lower left back. Felt like an electric shock down my leg and made a pop. Scared the shit out of me because my first thought was fuck, did I just do some kind of permanent damage to my spine or something? Hobbled around and it was more painful to try and get down than it was to lean on the wall. My son’s baby monitor camera clearly captured audio of the involuntarily deep belly yelp. I’m back to feeling fine, but I’m really gun-shy about heavy objects.
Yea first time was just like that, but this time it was such a slow gradual increase in pain, like at first I just felt like my back was maybe cramping a little, but it’s got me completely laid up now.
Ive been really focusing on stretching after the gym too. Fuck
Stretching isn’t gonna do too much from what I understand
I’m no PT but so much of your core is connected above and below. A lot of time my low back tightness comes from the outside backs of my knees.
I know most people think chiros are quacks but mine is pretty solid. Once a week trip, massage and daily stretching and I really have never had an issue.
Fuck god damn it
Burger King throwing shade at CFA
My gf is begging me to go to a chiro.
I guess I’ll have to fuck around and do it when I start working out again.
didn't grow up in the 90s....
I'm gay, but still not going to Burger King
My wife made me
I’ve never had back pain but the bro science out there says that doing exercises that strengthen the posterior chain and a chiro/PT visit is the first move. PT seems like the smarter choice to me but chiro is probably easier and maybe they’ll crack all your shit.
Stretching isn’t going to fix any type of pain. Low back pain is a multi-factorial issue. If it’s becoming a hinderance to daily life go see a PT
PT is the best
When will there be a movie worth seeing in theatre's this summer?
A Quiet Place 2 is already out
THe Green Knight releases July 30
Not my cup of tea. Anything coming up?
I've never had a lobster roll before and tbh didn't even know that it's a sandwich. Which of these would be best iyo?
~Wicked Roll - warm buttery lobster, guacamole salsa, spicy mayo & a dash of chili powder
~Alaskan Roll - warm buttery lobster, premium smoked salmon, cream cheese & dill
~New Orleans Roll - warm buttery lobster, chilled blue crab & sriracha
~High Society Roll - warm buttery lobster with truck-made black & white truffle mayo
~Hot Ass Roll - warm buttery lobster with truck-made Wicked Pissah mayo (psst... it's super spicy!)
~The BLT Roll - chilled lobster tossed with bacon & mayo, topped with balsamic marinated tomatoes
Of those choices I would pick the high society but none of those sound better to me than just a standard New England lobster roll
Wicked or NOLA
The BLT would be intriguing but I require my lobster to be warm and buttery
what exactly is a standard New England lobster roll? just lobster on bread?
I see that's what the "plain ass" one seems to be. "Warm buttery lobster on a toasted bun."
The correct answer is Connecticut style. High Society is pretty close I guess.
I think there are actually a lot of variations but at least what I have had/think of as standard would be much simpler than those recipes, basically just chunks of lobster meat tossed in a simple mayo sauce, maybe with celery and lemon.
