Anyone familiar with tree law? so developers decided it was a good idea to plant a bald cypress in our yard. Well apparently it’s illegal to remove in Florida without getting a bunch of permits and even then it could be illegal. So yay?
Just curious - why do you want to remove it? It is at risk of damaging your house if it falls or loses a limb?
Cypress have a law that it’s illegal to remove no matter what in some areas. Seems stupid if it was planted there and cypress aren’t native to the area
Is it near water? I’m not a tree lawyer but the only stuff I could find on google was that it might be protected in Florida if it’s near water, but you can get an expert to sign off on if it’s a danger to your house. If it’s causing property damage find an arborist that isn’t a baby.
Im aware. Native is likey wrong word. But there are no cypress trees previously in the area so one planted tree from 8 years ago isn’t going to affect the eco system
I bet there were cypress there before that area was drained, graded, developed, and planted with a bunch of shitty pines.
I’m sure it was and then it was removed. So don’t understand why I can’t remove a tree that was planted with my house.
More upset at the developer planting it in the first place tbh. I love the tree but it’s basically exploaded in growth and about to shoot knobs into neighbors yard
How does that reconcile with them being a modern building material that gets harvested regularly? Just grown in different areas?
My point being. The tree wouldn’t be there if the house was ever built. It wasn’t required to build the house.
You shouldn’t be upset about anything. It is far enough from your house that it doesn’t pose structural issues, it’s quite healthy, and it’ll provide ample shade to an otherwise empty yard as it continues to grow, ultimately becoming a selling point for your house (especially if this is in a tree barren suburban hellscape like so many.) Instead of looking for ways to remove this tree, you should look at ways to incorporate it into whatever you want to do. I promise you won’t regret it down the line.
