Leeroy Jenkins! picked a good one. It's a touch hotter on the nose but that rye/baking spice comes through big time. There's a malty sweetness on the palate. Tremendous. Rye'd or Die also mellowed in the glass after a while. Lots of warm spices on that one too. Excited to see how these both open up. Great picks, team. Also, I am feeling these two pours. I do not believe that the proof point is accurate.
Got my bottles earlier this afternoon. We have some weather moving into the area so I'm really hoping my son's baseball practice gets rained out and I can sit on the deck and watch the rain while trying one or both.
I do taste rye baking spices, but cinnamon isn’t specifically standing out to me. My palate could also be fucked up today, though.
Just had a pour of the LeeRye Jenkins. Easy to see why this bottle’s namesake is considered to have the best palate around. Crazy viscous.
Ryed or Die is a little smoother. Think LeeRey is my pick of the two. Both really good. And I usually don’t like Rye.
I will preface this by saying that I’m not used to as high ABV and generally prefer bourbon over rye. Both bottles came out hot. Each nostril provided different profiles and really liked the nose of each. Tried the Leerye first and it burned a bit for me. After the initial sip was able to appreciate more of the bouquet of flavors but remained pretty tough for me. Put in a couple drops of water and that made a world of difference and became much more smooth and tolerable. Took the rye’d or die second and it was a bit smoother. Picked up more vanilla notes and wasn’t quite as harsh going down. (Not sure if it was due to it being my second pour or its true quality) Definitely think that I prefer this one over Leerye but will keep the jury out. It’s not often I can feel this much after two small pours but here we are. Cheers!
I also mostly drink bourbon, this was my first shot at good ryes. Delicious. I usually drink high proof stuff, and was really impressed with how smooth these are. I think my favorite of the two was the leerye.
I am telling you there is something about these that hits harder than even the high proof they are at. I did measure both tonight and I have LeeRye at 13 and Rye'd or Die at 133.5. Someone else had the same result on his hydrometer for LeeRye. They probably should have remeasured these before bottling. Not saying this is why they hit hard as a couple of proof shouldn't matter. I think it is the viscosity.
Oh and I wasn't kidding. I don't think anyone took him up on this, so probably would have to go for more.
This was the first I let breathe and makes a noticeable difference, screwed up on first sip of #2 for the night and huge difference in my extremely unexpert opinion.
Aussie surprise bourbon delivery today in Texministan, would definitely recommend paying 20 bucks (one time fee) to get the UPS Mychoice and automatic shipping upgrades bc otherwise RiRo takes forever to get here.
It’s beautiful. If I didn’t have prior plans tonight I’d be digging into this tonight. Tomorrow night can’t come soon enough!
