it’s top shelf not well, thanks I exhaled a bit through my nose when taking the first drink and the vapor burned my eyes. I shoulda put on a lid. it was pretty good and also very strong. The finer things are definitely lost on me but I like it. Also just an insanely cool project so ty to NYGator and any/everyone else that put it together
let it sit in the glass for 20-30 for the vapors to dissipate a bit. also, i encourage everyone new to drinking high proof whiskey to learn more about what the "Kentucky chew" is.
Also sometimes good to start on something a bit lower proof instead of jumping right into a 130 proofer.
If you are new to high proof whiskey definitely -let it sit in the glass for 20-30 minutes -pour something in the 115-120 proof range before hand to warm up your mouth If you don't regularly drink stuff that is in this 130 proof range that will significantly enhance your experience. Also the bottle will change a lot over the next few weeks as air gets in the bottle. It will mellow out the sharp edges.
I would also say don't be afraid to put drops of water in it until you reach your comfort zone or maybe even an ice cube. It should open up for you and align better with your comfort zone.
If you aren't the group message about upcoming releases make sure you DM NYGator He just dropped info on an incredible Nashville Barrel Company bourbon that is dropping next Friday. This run of NBC barrels are so good it's probably what I drink the most often. Absolute flavor bombs and a lower proof point than the ryes that is more approachable to newer bourbon drinkers.
Oh my mistake. That's actually even better. Although BBC owns Green River now I prefer their rye over BBC's.
FYI, I changed the label to give it a name (Monkey Tonk) and make it more symmetrical. Right now we are a go for next Friday. I am not going to put limits on this one so it truly will be first come first served, before I open it up to the outside world. Info to come in our private chat. I don't want to put pressure on you guys if this is too much too soon, so that is the reason for no limits. This will be a very good bottle. The quality that we are getting access to lately is just ridiculous. Also in addition to the two we have coming in June/July, we are sampling two different whiskeys next week from River Roots. I just can't pass up an opportunity with them and both of these should be pretty unique and special even if they are not technically bourbon by definition. "A very small quantity of 20 year 6 month Indiana Light Whiskey barrels just arrived this week. These barrels are all over 140 proof and the yield will be 135 bottles or less with some of the barrels being much shorter than that (60ish). We are looking to move these barrels quickly, so we are reaching out to select customers to see if you would like to get ONE sample of one of these barrels." I recall these being around $179 or so, which isn't bad at all for hazmat at that age statement. For those who don't knwo what light whiskey is, it is a bourbon mashbill (probably 99/1) aged in an uncharred barrel. The older ones tend to taste like vanilla cake batter. For those of you who have tried them this will be very similar to Jacob's Pardon or Penelope American Light Whiskey but even older. Same barrels basically. The second is also an American whiskey but double oaked in two different charred barrels. I suspect this will taste more like a traditional bourbon but have some unique flavors from the double oak process. "We also just got in some 10yr 10m Kentucky Double Oaked American Whiskey barrels. These are heavy barrels averaging around 220 bottles. If you are interested in samples, I can send you three samples in addition to the light whiskey sample. We're really excited about all of these new barrels, so let me know what you think. This is the same mash bill as the current 10yr bourbons (Bookers) we are releasing, so bourbon make-up, but it is an American whiskey because the first 7 years it was sitting in a previously used oak barrel. The last 3 years it has been sitting in a new charred oak barrel. Pretty unique." 10 Yr Kentucky Double Oaked American Whiskey Mashbill: 78c/13r/9mb Proof: ~119 Approx Bottle Yield: 220 bottles Online Price = $92.00
Can Aussie be my safety and order for me? I'm going on vacation starting Friday so won't be around my phone and I have a rather large fear of missing out situation going on at all times.
If the work around for no ship states is a pain in the ass then whatever but would buy at least 2 if possible
