Didn't see a thread for it. Finally pulled the trigger on getting a Raspberry Pi. Installing Retropie was extremely easy once I figured out my log in on my old laptop (Couldn't install Win32diskimager on my work computer).
I just ordered a 128gb one preloaded with pretty much all Nintendo, SNES and N64 games you would want. Loving it so far. Looking for the best comapatible controller though. The wired XBOX One controller won't read.
It's costly, but saved me time. http://m.ebay.com/itm/128GB-Retropie-Raspberry-Pi-3-Retro-Gaming-console-with-Kodi-xbmc-Plug-Play-/282298344157?hash=item41ba4ae2dd:g:MyEAAOSwSdZWffke&_trkparms=pageci%3Adeb0a3d3-c8b6-11e6-ad3b-005056b68966%7Cparentrq%3A297e088a1590a5eb32d32c0effcd31de%7Ciid%3A1
Just messed with it today, but it has about 800 NES, 700 SNES, 100 N64, 200 Genesis games and boatload of Atari games preloaded and a few other devices I'm not familiar with or messed with. It does not have any PS1 or Dreamcast games preloaded, but comes with easy to follow transfer directions for those. The controllers that come with it suck, so I ordered a separate one already.
"Building" it yourself takes about an hour, costs significantly less, and you most likely have some of the hardware required. Use a 4GB or higher micro SD card to run the Retropie operating system, drag-and-drop the roms on a thumbdrive, then plug it into your tv with an HDMI cable. Raspberry Pi 3 with case and power adapter (the heatsinks included aren't required): Most knock-off SNES controllers feel grimey. I started one on it a while back. Got my loaded with all SNES and NES and ATARI 2600 so far. https://www.the-mainboard.com/index.php?threads/rasberry-pi-emulator.161795/ Fuckin killin it on Blades of Steel lately
These are so much fun. Currently using RecalBox but may go back to RetroPie mainly because there is more info avail on the internet. Been figuring out the Scraper and messing with different Themes. I finally figured out how to get the SegaCD working and the wife and I dropped about 12 hrs into Snatcher.
Finally went back to RetroPie for the interface and it is definitely the way to go. RecalBox is good for starting up I think because it is visually "easier", especially when loading the Pi with Roms and BIOS files. I've been really into PC Engine/ TG-16 titles on this box. There are some really awesome games on that system, it's a shame that it didn't really take off here. Looking back it could have really been a competitor but there was just no room for a 3rd Console back then. I recommend Getting some ROMS especially if you like Vert/Horiz shooters. Also, I never had the Sega Master System and after playing a few of the games, I didn't really miss much. There are a lot of people in the Retro "Community" that says its the tits but I'm not seeing it. Gonna grab a set of Wireless NES30 controllers from 8 Bit-do for my bday.
Best emulation I've seen in HD for a homemade set up. When playing anything 16-bit or lower it's basically a perfect copy. Input Lag isn't even noticeable. Just have your TV set to whatever "game" setting it has.
