I’m not going to police how others react to his passing, I’m just personally uncomfortable with celebrating his demise, no matter how abhorrent his politics were.

To be fair, his twitter account was spreading dangerous conspiracy theories after he was dead by all reasonable measures.

Eh, I think it's inherently human to attach feelings related to the deaths of loved ones to subsequent deaths. I get that logically death's inevitability should make us more comfortable with it, but that's a lot easier said than done.

I strongly disagree with that. That really ignores a lot of the mental health impacts of loss.

for me it’s the opposite. I “know” how real death is and it’s had a huge impact on me and that’s why I feel the way I do. I don’t have a problem with people celebrating the death of a POS no more than I have with someone mourning the death of someone they didn’t know.

i'm not saying dont grieve and move on, i'm saying the denialism which most people fall into is very destructive. centering yourself when someone famous dies and your emotions regarding death is a by product of that. same as trying to project ones own desire for civility in the moment.

i dont have problems with grieving the death of someone they don't know either, my point is make it substantive don't just blindly think every death is a somber moment to self flagellate oneself over. death is a great time for reflection of someones legacy and seeing the Lewis memorial is a reminder of that transposed against Cains.

Every time I've talked to my parents since March I've impressed upon them how dangerous covid is and how careful they need to be because others won't.

I'm nothing but happy that there's now one less scumbag around with a big platform to push lies and conspiracy theories that could further endanger them, and think it's weird if some "every death is sad" shit overrides that for you.

There is a Casey's near the hotel we always stay at in Fayetteville. Last year took a friend who is from Iowa and he got so fucking excited when he saw it. After game we got some pizza and it fucks especially for gas station pizza. I always assumed it was no better than Hunt Brothers (which I've never tried and never will)

yeah i want people to grieve for people they like or had impacts on their life but also celebrate if they want when someone who was bad can no longer continue harming the world. its a consistent position vs the "only grieve" folks.

    maybe you’re too flippant?

how they treated others is their burden to bear, how I treat others is my burden. There’s nothing weird about not celebrating someone’s death, but I certainly understand why others would.

There's grieving and there's denial of death. It'd be a lot better if more people had experience with it. You find out it's both way more tragic and not nearly as bad as you imagine at the same time. Such is the duality of loss.

i've posted frequently about my relationship with death being outside the mainstream due to multiple jobs i've had fwiw

and I don't care if people don't celebrate someones death, but people in every thread this happens have to point out their disapproval of it. that changes the dynamic from "i personally won't celebrate anyones death" into "i dont think anyone should celebrate anyones death"

I generally read a thread then word vomit what stuck in my brain in response unless there's something truly egregious I'll quote. If I didn't quote you directly it was referencing multiple posts saying the threads weird or the normal subtle virtue signaling posts people make.

We can disagree on how somber we should treat all deaths, but when people start making value judgement about people on one side or the other is when things get sticky for me.

When Trump dies, I am going to be such an asshole on social media. Just blatantly disrespectful.

I'll probably even get drunk and get on my roof and shout "allahu akbar" like he lied about NJ muslims doing during 9/11.

If this is describing me, then I think you're missing my position. My resistance to celebrating death comes from a place of empathy. Even horrible people have families who feel loss.

Either way, the sense of death as justice is misplaced. Death isn't unique to bad people. Celebrating it is only celebrating the instant of the occurrence, but it's not any kind of finality to the impact. Cain's bullshit didn't suddenly remove itself from existence when he stopped breathing, and I doubt any of his victims feel any greater closure.

*Not policing. Celebrate all that you want to. I'm just explaining why I don't.*

I don't think it's justice. I think it's a moment to view that persons legacy, in this case it's a horrendous legacy that he is no longer able to add garbage on to, a moment of positivity for the world. The opposite of Lewis, who I will grieve.

I've found the family part silly when people make it over the years, I highly doubt Cains family is posting here and I highly doubt they're universally grieving as opposed to some relieved or even celebrating him being gone.

i think we’re celebrating cain’s death more than we normally would because it’s been an exceptionally shitty year and this is one of the few good things to happen

especially after he attended the trump rally and promoted the dangerous anti-mask rhetoric

I don’t like to celebrate death. I do think karma is funny, though. What are you going to do stab me says man who was stabbed.

What do you think I’m going to die of covid says reckless man who died of covid.
