I get where you're coming from, of course I do. And of course I recognize my own bias in this case. Just like I know women that have been raped, I know men that have been falsely accused, and I know both men and women, of course, that have been involved in very complicated (not sure on the right word here) encounters, especially in the past. All that we really know is that it was worthwhile for both of them to settle out of court and that the Colorado DA did not have enough physical evidence to move forward without her testimony. That's it. I'm not calling someone a rapist based on that.
People were calling for a millennium old monarchy to be disbanded because the people weren’t happy with Elizabeth’s lack of hysteria.
What are helicopter accident rates? It seems like they're much higher than airplanes. I was close to taking my first helicopter tour in Hawaii last month and I'd be lying if I didn't think about the possibility of a crash. Then just two weeks later that very same tour suffered a crash.
just saw an IG video of the chopper spinning down into a fiery explosion, recorded by phone. officially one of the woa tdays ive lived.
I get your position. I’m just shocked by the posters who are taking it because I haven’t seen that sort of deference in other situations.
If y'all want to outrage, these are two people who I despise the most on twitter. There's a time for a conversation and it isn't on the day he and his daughter fucking died.
I mean there is definitely a lot of truth to your point but that doesn’t change how jarring it is to see a guy that meant that much to so many people die at 41 with his child
Maybe because the guy just died today with his daughter and you want to pick today to litigate shit that happened 15 years
That doesn't show when I look. Probably only when an Admin looks (GFA, Mix, etc.). Probably someone that wanted to threadban me too, tbqh.
It’s also a little simplistic to compare the judgments people will make about the ruling class of the nation they feel are actively doing things that knowingly harm large sections of the population and a guy who was a sports hero had an isolated incident where there has been some doubt (whether legitimate or not) and then seemed to show contrition and try to do proactive things to make amends. Whether right or wrong.
Banning posters you are arguing against and then returning to the thread saying you unbanned them is a very common technique I have noticed with mods on this board.
Gianna could have been a game changer for growing women’s basketball’s popularity if she would have developed into a professional level player. Thinking about her gets to me more than Kobe.
I don’t buy that you can’t have the conversation on the day people are venerating the man. Think about how you’ll feel when the media talks about the death of “beloved former President Donald Trump” at some point in the future.
I'll give you $10,000 if I'm the one that threadbanned them. If I'm not, you donate $100 to the Muncie Boys and Girls club.
Given how insanely tragic his death was and how his daughter died too, I'm not exactly going to find Clara fucking Jeffery's take in good faith if you know how she basically represents almost nothing the actual Mother Jones stood for. He didn't die of old age or natural causes, there's a difference in my mind at least.
We celebrated the crap out of him in his last game, where was this? When he won his oscar where was this? This is look at me journalism.
For me it's more about being honest about the legacy of public figures. We're not talking about your Aunt Diane's funeral where it's impolite to talk about how she was a mean drunk.
I think it would be supremely fucked if anybody directed the rape conversation toward his friends and family, but it's weird to have a problem with people publicly discussing it.
By planet you might want to stick to USA. How many celebrities death’s were caused by paparazzi chasing them? She wasn’t even in Great Britain either.
i liked kobe and loved how he treated his kids but it’s completely valid to bring up the rape thing weird to say it’s not
people aren’t reaching when they bring up the rape stuff what pisses me off are people calling him a pedophile because his wife was 17 and he was 21 when they first started dating anyone who says shit like that loses all credibility
This has nothing to do with Kobe’s Colorado stuff but I hate how people have to pretend people that have just died were great people. Unless he’s assassinated, I will rejoice the day a certain orange skinned person dies.
I think its like avg 7 accidents for general aviation for every 100k flight hours vs less than 1 for commercial.
Have you ever vocally asked for consent? I think the standard is to proceed until the girl says stop, no, etc. Maybe 1% of guys, if that, will ever say "May I now have sex with you?" in the heat of the moment.
So legendary sports figures that spend all of their time in one place and have done mostly good should not have their past failures and indiscretions discussed so soon after their death.
Saw a video earlier, probably the same one, but I dont think that's Kobe's crash. Looked to be at dusk on a clear day. This was morning with clear skies.
