God forbid he decides to wait to speak on the issue when someone shoves a microphone in his face while it’s unfolding.
Yesterday wasn't any better
A distraught Houston Rockets fan has been arrested in Jilin province after posting an image of himself preparing to burn a Chinese flag.
The 25-year-old man, surnamed Wang, posted the photo onto Weibo. It shows him wearing a James Harden jersey, a black face mask, hat, and an eyepatch over his right eye while holding a smile Chinese flag in one hand and a lighter in the other.
Wang captioned the post: “I live and die with my team” and “Come and catch me.”

Sad and surprising but i wasn’t aware just how much the NBA was in bed with China

....Because China said so
This situation will only get worse for the NBA. Attempting to keep both sides happy is not going to be possible, and I think Xi Jinping likes soccer better anyway.
why Winnie the Pooh?
Xi hates it when people say he looks like Winnie the Pooh
lol I just looked up the Pooh stuff, they can't even have him in the Disneyland in Shanghai.
The NBA will likely have to take the loss on this one. Interested to see how it will affect the salary cap.
Yeah I’m understanding now why espn is ignoring this
They have 2 Winnie the Pooh attractions there
This is amazing
saw an article from the Independent. they're normally pretty reliable I guess it was fake news.
Maybe they were talking about meet and greet character but I’m not sure about that
just listening to a clip from Adam Silvers press conference and not nearly as impressed as others. “We regret causing disharmony in peoples lives” sounds like he parroting PRC rhetoric.
Disney owns 80% of ESPN. Disney has big ambitions in China. Not a difficult puzzle to put together.
Hell, even The Athletic is punting on this story, and have disabled comments on all NBA/China stories. It’s bizarre.
The NBA/ESPN have a partnership to broadcast games on China state TV that will net the NBA $1.5B over ten years, not sure how much ESPN’s cut is for but I’m sure it’s significant enough to buy their obedience.
p12 has a media deal with alibaba, cool to see p12 presidents standing with china for a shitty tv 'deal.'
Similar-ish, Blizzard the computer game company pulled money/support for a pro gamer after they supported Hong Kong
This is such a nuanced situation. I hope everyone takes the time to consider all perspectives before speaking and potentially hurting feelings.
