*170 PAs I was excited about the guy going into '19 too, but we've now got close to 700 PAs of data to look at...and it ain't pretty. I'd be okay with McBroom getting more of a look. At least vs lefties.
It shouldn't be that hard to find a league average 1B, especially in the AL where you can hide him at DH on occasion. Morales as a FA aside (and he was entirely DH), it's been one of the biggest blind spots of DM's tenure.
I'm bullish on O'Hearn and McBroom both. But sign a vet for league minimum for them to beat out before handing either a job.
God fucking forbid we move Mondesi Mondesi is fucking useless. The sooner we can replace him at short, the better
I like mcbroom over o’hearn and that’s based on zero scientific evidence. But I think if Santana went down for an extended amount of time you’d see dozier move back to 1B anyway. Plus we’re probably a couple years away from salvy moving over there
Where do you think he'll play? Soler isn't playing more than maybe 50 games in the OF. I'll take the extreme over on 5 games at 1B for Carlos.
I think about this a lot more than I probably should...but I can't think of many things that are more importanter to me in the next couple months.
Fair. I didn't realize he played 60 games at first last year and 135 in 2019, I guess I had it in my head that he was primarily DH. His defensive numbers don't light the world on fire but at least he's passable. -6 dWAR over 11 seasons isn't unplayable.
Well fuck, I forgot our new 2B is a killer vs lefties. Career .350 ave, .850 ops vs lefties. So we could line up (vs lefties): 1. Whit CF 2. Mondi SS 3. Santana 1B 4. Perez C 5. Soler RF 6. Dozier 3B 7. Benintendi LF 8. McBroom DH 9. H. Alberto 2B That’ll play
Yeah, I think Alberto could be the surprise of the lineup. I don't think it's crazy to expect a 85-100 OPS+ from him, which would be a huge upgrade from Nicky.
Swap career-OBP .284 Mondi with career-OBP .353 Benintendi and we'll be talking. Shoot me if we trot Mondi out above the 6 hole.
Totally fine with that contract. He had a down year last year but the year before he was 3.6 oWAR player, even though he did tail off toward the end of the year. His K-rate and BB-rate held steady last year but his exit velocity and hard hit % was down. I'd expect that to rebound.
He’s said a couple times he felt like he never got his strength back post-Covid last year. Would get winded about 10 swings into a BP.
Twice we loaded the bases and the Rangers elected to end the inning instead of play it out. Was nice to sit out back and listen.
Seriously if wade can post like a sub-4 ERA and holland repeats last year I may cry. I miss those dudes.
Andy McCullough back writing about the Royals, particularly Salvy? Sign me up. https://theathletic.com/2419253/2021/03/02/salvador-perez-kansas-city-royals/
So much for Nick Heath's hopes of making the team...although a season in AA/AAA for him is probably best.
Little league style, the LF dropped the ball and booted it according to the radio, still said he ripped it and flew around the bases. Was credited as a fielding error.
What’s everyone’s opinion on the Singer service time debate (if we sent him down after his final start of the year we would’ve gained an entire additional year of service). Dumb decision or an OK culture building move?
