Think of it from other teams' perspective; what would you want your team to give up for Wade Davis? He's not the Wader that he once was. I'd be thrilled to get more than just Soler for him, but if it's a 1-for-1 trade as is being reported, it's not a horrible deal for either side.
I think it's a fair return, actually. Most are down on the return but let's not forget we are getting an MLB-ready player with upside that has good pop. He will step right in and be our RF, a position of need. Let's not forget, we just lost Morales so this lineup was in dire need of a middle of the order kind of bat. I love Wade but we weren't keeping him, he had a couple DL stints last year, and he's on the wrong side of 30. Our bullpen didn't "need" him to still be a solid 'pen. Our lineup needs some pop and RBI potential after losing Morales.
I knew that Wade was going to get traded, and yea Soler is "MLB ready", but he really hasn't proven much. Hope it works out, but I'm going to be skeptical.
kansas city needs ian happ for them to come out on top of this deal. a switch-hitting 2B/CF with some pop
i get that soler is under control for four years but he's an extreme defensive liability in the outfield and I think sticking him solely in the DH spot puts too much pressure on the guy to hit
plus we're going to need an outfielder unless you guys are content trotting Gordon/Burns/Orlando out there
Assuming we keep Dyson/Cain, I'd be cool with Soler DH/Dyson in RF against righties and Soler in RF against lefties.
I think the Royals would be better served to get a kid like Eloy Jimenez out of this deal than Soler.
But both ways right. Soler hasn't had a full year yet because of injuries, right? Maybe play Cain as the DH so he might actually last the whole year.
not sure if sarcastic or not, but it's a hell of a lot easier to pull one out of wrigley than it is in kauffman
If teams aren't at least a little concerned about his durability going forward, they cray-cray. I would bet that most see him as a one year, $10M rental...not wanting to give him an extension. If I were a MLB GM, I wouldn't give up my top prospect(s) for a 1 yr / $10M bullpen arm.
Take one of the better defensive OFers in the league out of the lineup and put him at a premium offensive position, when he's not an above average offensive threat? Would be a bold move, Cotton. If you want to try to keep Cain healthy, put him in RF, but he's no DH.
Total joke. Although the offense was much better when he was in the lineup. He's just going to miss minimum of a month every year.
In all seriousness, I'd like to see us hold on to Cain. If we get to the ASB and we aren't going anywhere then you can trade him.
David Glass stopped Glassing us just long enough to win that 'ship* and now he's right back to David Glassing us. * still worth it
What were ya'll saying when the Myers/Shields trade went down? I realize that trade wasn't a 1-for-1. It involved some other pieces. Not sure if any of them panned out though. Sarcasm.
We said, they better win a World Series with the return from Myers and Odorizzi. We were all 100% correct.
Yeah, this one seems like a winner. At worst he's another power pitcher in the bullpen for a 4th outfielder who is gone next year anyway. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017...-jarrod-dyson-from-royals-for-nate-karns.html
