2 down, 98 to go. Why the Fuck was Escobar bunting in the 9th? Soria couldn’t find home plate with a fucking GPS and we just had him outs.
So the next 6 games are all day games. Whoever came up with that schedule was brilliant. They could be 0-8 by the time I get to enjoy watching a full game.
So they DFA'd a 24 year old with some upside as a reliever (on a team with no good relievers aside from Herrera) to pick up a guy who has a .300 OBP in 860 career at-bats...
Junis working on a gem, can't wait to see how we blow it. It may have to do with only scoring one run so far....time will tell!
Kennedy pitched well Saturday. Keller has been good so far in 2 relief appearances. Grimm has been okay. I'm trying...
Almonte unloaded to LA for cash considerations. I have a sinking feeling that this is a move driven by ownership to offset the higher payroll this year. Curious how much cash we got.
Can't wait until he's logging important innings later this year for a potential playoff team. I'm done with GMDM. Every move he's made since we won the WS has been an utter disaster.
I think you have to say DM is the best, just given the results and the fact that he turned around ownership's attitude to spending and meddling in the day-to-day. I'd be curious to see what Baird could have done with the modern day Glass family though. I must say though, it's like ranking your favorite out of a punch in the balls, face, or stomach.
2 disasters and 1 success story that has faded fast. I'll always be grateful to Dayton for playing a part in back-to-back World Series appearances. But at the end of the day, you have to look at the current product and the future product. Fact is, he hasn't drafted an everyday contributor in the 1st round since Hosmer in 2008. From 2010-2013 we selected Colon (4), Bubba (5), Zimmer (5), Dozier (8). That's 4 top-10 picks and 4 swings and misses. That's almost hard to do. Since then, it's been a host of HS pitchers that haven't panned out and/or have back-end rotation upside. Manaea was a good pick though. Our roster is piss poor. We hit Paulo Orlando 5th yesterday. 5th! He shouldn't even be in the Majors. What does this team look like in 2 years? Just as shitty, possibly worse. Any prospect we have (Pratto, Lee, Melendez, Gigliotti) is at least 3+ years away. Even then, they aren't all without risk. If Dayton wants to save his job then he'd better ship off any asset he has because if he stands pat we are looking at 2-3 more years of terrible teams.
And in a surprise to no one, Lonnie Goldberg took over as Director of Scouting after 2010. I don’t see what he’s done to keep his job.
I don't necessarily disagree with any of this, but I'm gonna go ahead and give Dayton a couple more years before I cast him to the wolves. And I know that we all know that he's been terrible drafting players. But, in his first draft (2006) he did collect guys named Moustakas, Duffy, and Holland. Then Hosmer in 2007. Wil Myers in 2008. (ignore Aaron Crow) Zimmer was a great prospect...although I guess they should have foreseen his injury prowess. The jury is still out on Dozier, at least as far as whether he'll be a contributor or not...I realize you'd like 1st rounders to be more than 'contributors', but the reality of the MLB draft is that most 1st rounders don't end up being studs. Brandon Finnegan (2014) was great in relief that year...a World Series team...and helped us land Cueto. 2010 draft wasn't great, but it did get us Whit. 2011 & 2012 were real bad. As DirtBall alluded to above, I firmly believe the real villain in our recent lack of draft success has been Lonnie Goldberg. Of course, DM is his boss, so if he doesn't cut him loose soon, then cast 'em all to the wolves.
There have been questions about DM's philosophy on pitching development for years, well before the playoff teams. Remember the whole long-toss debate back in the Bubba Starling draft when a pitcher or two (Trevor Bauer maybe?) told the Royals not to draft him? A lot of people theorized at the time that the Royals were too old-fashioned when it came to training regimen. And it's been reported multiple times that they'd draft guys then immediately change their pitch repertoire.... telling guys to ditch sliders for curveballs or something along those lines. So yeah, bad drafts are to blame, but I also think DM's development plans are shit too. The proof is in the results. I know, TNSTAAPP, but there are a lot of ruined arms and massive disappointments left in the Royals' wake.
Yeah, I get what you're saying. It is largely a crapshoot and I understand that. But when you pick in the top-8 four straight years how do you not end up with 1 player that is worth a shit out of that group? It also seems like Royals Nation has high, high hopes for Hunter Dozier but what exactly has he done in his minor league career to suggest he's going to be anything more than an average everyday regular? The guy is going to turn 27 this season, is always hurt, and has appeared in 8 ML games. I'll need to see something this year to make me a believer. This is a weird spot to be in as a fan. There is no excitement in watching the games right now and there isn't much light at the end of the tunnel with a barren farm system.
I think the organization itself has higher hopes for Dozier than most realistic fans. And those fans that do have expectations for him do so only because he's the tallest midget of all the guys in our farm system. The rest have been busts or traded. But I don't think anyone honestly expects him to be a major contributor.
To be fair us getting an every day regular out of a 1st round pick would be a huge win for the Royals lol
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Kansas_City_Royals_first-round_draft_picks going back to 2008....
Fucking bunting with our best contact hitter to get RISP for Moose who will obviously be walked, to get to Duda who strikes out 25% of the time. Yosted.
The second Whit squares up (career .500 average vs Carrasco) I wanted to turn the game off. Really wish I would have.
Did Ashe Russell quit baseball? He went right before Tigers pick, and was a guy I was hoping would fall to them.
Yeah, if I remember right (not 100% sure) we made him change his mechanics and he couldn’t do anything so they had him try his old mechanics and he couldn’t find it again. I think he got super frustrated and finally gave up.
Like I said earlier, the Royals love taking good arms and changing them. We coulda drafted Chris sale over Colon but it wouldn’t have mattered, we would have ruined him. DM just can’t come to grips with the fact every arm isn’t Greg Maddux.
That’s why Hochevar was clearly a better pick than Lincecum too. No way he could ever hold up with his delivery.
Y'all enjoy piss in your Cheerios. Sure we've got plenty of draft failures, but for fucks sake; we went to back to back world series'. Won one with Christian Colon getting the clinching RBI. All the while Chris Sale sat his lanky ass at home watching on TV. And for as good as the indians have been, they'll go through their window of opportunity with zero rings. I realize it's in our DNA to be miserable fucks, but got damn I bet y'all were mad pissed after we won our final game in '15.
I don’t see why we can’t praise DM for all the incredible moves prior to 2015 and the scouts for the drafting prior to 2010 but still point out that everything after those cut off has been complete shit. And in saying that, did anyone doubt the second our “first baseman” Whitley can’t keep his foot on the bag and gives them an extra out that the end result of the game was in doubt?
God forbid Goins doesn’t get to play. Him starting is infuriating. Almost as infuriating as putting Maurer in a game that isn’t a blowout.
