We're a half game from leading the division and currently a wild card holder. This is BEFORE the all star break with a team that was 9 games under .500. <3 these guys so much.

What's the likelihood that the ASG break totally disrupts this hot streak?

    I'd say probable to high

Sneaky great series this weekend at the Ravine. The teams can pat each other on the back pregame for getting their 3bs to Miami.

I saw this article yesterday and it really got under my skin. So much misinformation and discounting the good brand of baseball that we've played over the past few seasons. These two sentences really got me heated

"Yes, you had to watch the Royals slap singles until your eyes bled. And, yes, you had watch them be maybe the worst overall team to ever win a World Series."

Really? In 2015, they won the most games in the AL and 2nd most in baseball. What an awful team that was.

And lol at them suggesting we dumped the farm for Shields. Funny they failed to mention Wade Davis came over in that trade too. The Shields trade resulted in us getting a #1 starter and a top 3 closer in baseball. Myers is a very solid player, but not a star. Odorizzi is a nice back-end starter. And Montgomery has turned into a nice spot starter/long reliever. You make that trade all day. Same with the Cueto and Zobrist deals.

And then this: "especially when you sold your soul like the Royals did to get to where they did a couple years ago."

Poor guy is so salty that his juggernaut Indians fumbled their 3-1 lead in the WS last year while we closed ours out in 2015.

I'm content in letting the haters do their hatin. And I'm 100% fine with them thinking that the '15 Roys are one of the worst WS champions of all time. Because rings.

Reading the comments on that article... quite a bit of arrogance from a crew that hasn't won a series since the Truman administration.

Not that the Royals are world beaters or anything, but Jesus, look in the mirror.

They are just pissed that they aren't the Royals coming back to win it all the year after they fell just short.

Sooooooooo much crying in that article.

I'll take a shitload of overachieving heroics over underachieving crybabies every time.

That's what made beating the Blue Jays so awesome.

I read 2 paragraphs and that's the dumbest thing I've read in a while. Cheering for teams to sell their farm is so dumb, because relying on your farm is just as dumb.

It also assumes they automatically stop winning once the deadline passes.

Unless the sole purpose of the article is 'yay, we won't have to worry about the Royals for the next 3 or 4 years'.

I think a big element of it is that the Royals have been god-awful for so long... like entire lifetimes of a lot of fans. I could understand it being annoying when a team you considered an easy W turns it around and becomes competitive. The fact that there is one more team in the division actually trying than usual is probably frustrating.

It's like when Baylor started trying in sports. Fucking annoying douches.

On one hand, Duffy and Greinke did that too and they turned out okay.

On the other hand, they both had success in pro baseball before quitting. Russell has been dogshit thus far in his career. Gonna go out on a limb and guess we never see him wearing a KC uniform.

So what's the Russell story? Could throw upper 90s but his mechanics were shit. We changed his delivery and he then could barely hit 90. Tried going back to old mechanics but he can't find them again. Something like that?

That's about the only thing the article above is correct about. DMGM has a pretty awful track record drafting.

    - Crow's delivery and lack of 3rd pitch always screamed RP but for some reason they thought he could be a starter. He had a really nice 2012 season (think he was our only AS that year?) but 8 years later he's out of baseball.
    - CC was an overachieving college player with no notable tools but we took him top 5 in a weak draft after the top 3. I believe he hit a decent amount of HR but this was the last year before they changed the make of metal bats. Still love him though.
    - Bubba - We've discussed him plenty of times here. He may eventually play CF for us and hit in the 8/9 hole, albeit terribly.
    - Zimmer gets a pass from me. He was the correct pick. He had ace upside. He shows 1/2 potential and great stuff but just can't stay healthy. What's funny is that he was considered one of the safest pitchers because he was a converted IF and didn't have that many innings on his arm.
    - Dozier can't be judged on where he was drafted because he was only taken there to get Manaea later. He gets a pass.
    - Finnegan was a meh selection with not a whole lot of upside (4/5 starter at best) but he served a purpose for us and helped us land Cueto in return. Not the worst selection.
    - Russell was said to be a good prospect but similar to Crow, he only had 2 pitches. One was a heavy, sinking fastball and the other a plus slider... without anything else. Wait, that is Aaron Crow.
    - Nolan Watson was a Rd. 1 comp pick and he has been pretty awful. (31 starts in A ball and has compiled a 7.08 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and .315 BAA). Gross.

CC wasn't a world beater by any means, but I'm still puzzled by the lack of opportunity he got at the big league level, while we trotted guys like Infante and Getz out there or rushed Mondesi.

    But, <3 Whit.

I love the fight and tenacity of this team especially after such a woeful start but we really should sell right?

Don't see how this pitching staff will keep it together nearly half a year to make a Wild Card legitimately possible

In a vacuum it probably makes more sense to sell.

But with emotion riding high and things like ticket sales and stuff that still matter to the bottom line, you gotta at least give it a shot. We still have time until the deadline to pick a direction.

Logically yes, that's the play to make. Baseball and sports in general aren't logical. Should we of swept our way into the WS in 14, no, but we did. By most accounts our farm is in sad state and we'll lose our core. But one in the hand is worth two in the bush. We can make a run. Were a playoff team right now. Let the boys have one last crack at it.

Royals follower due to proximity and now living in city.

Rambling, maybe way off base incoming. Also semi drunk so if you disagree I likely won't argue.

My thoughts: you sell depending on who you sell. I think the only guy worth selling is Moose where the return will be worth it being they may likely only get them for a half year.

Don't think 1st base is needed all that much across the board. Maybe Boston or Milwaukee?

I guess Cain maybe just because his defense is unreal and the speed factor. Also if he gets hot he's damn dangerous offensively.

Hos is obviously a solid bat and amazing defensively but I just don't think many need a 1B that are in contention.

I could be way off though. Do love watching the Royals though. Thought they were dead early yet here they are right back in the thick of things.

Super fun living in a city with a good baseball team especially come post season time.

So imo, give it one last go with this core and try to buy with Mondesi based on his name. I think he'll be great defensively and a decent bat but never anything special with his bat.

    Idk just my :twocents:

As far as trade value imo. But they aren't selling. Unless there's an epic collapse between now and the deadline they're staying put.

As far as buying. I'm all in on a rotation of vargi, duff, Kennedy, ham, Minor. But that means the pen needs Alexander on his A game, Felix fixed and Flynn at 100% asap. Get a cheap arm or two for the pen that Eiland can do his thing with and lets see where we go.

    IMO it's:

    Herrera
    Cain
    Moose
    Hoz
    Vargas

Vargas is what he is. He's due for some regression and no team is going to trade for him to be their 1, 2, or 3 and they certainly aren't going to give up a good prospect for him. Not much of a market for 1B seeing that most teams are set at that position. Doubt Hoz would net much of a return. Moose would be a great fit for a team like Boston. Cain has a ton of value as a great defensive CF who can steal bases and get on base at a good clip. He'd command a premier prospect. Even though Herrera hasn't been his usual self this season teams are still willing to give up a lot in order to shore up a bullpen.
