Yup.. I think the remaining flood qualities in this team showed today aka these guys for some reason took a psu loss as a reason to get full of themselves and think the Indiana game would be easier. Hester should be embarrassed. Hayek should never field a punt again. We should play more wormley and vokolek and for the love of God gio can't start next year.
Yes and No. I think a lot of these guys are such losers that the moment we get a little optimism that we aren’t a joke (after UW game and after getting to 4 wins) these guys don’t know how to focus. However, it’s Ash’s job to get them to focus and not get his ass kicked on the field. IU looked hungry, prepared. We looked disinterested and confused.
We just gotta keep plugging holes and eventually we'll ride our makeshift raft to 6-6 and a bowl game..whether ash can take us past that level is an entirely different matter.
Really wonder if Ash will be able to do anything here aside from 6-6 being his ceiling. He totally screwed himself this year with EMU and now this. Losing 41-0 to Indiana is a major major warning bell to me. Should never happen. MSU will blow us out, we finish 4-8 and it just sucks any positivity away.
I still think it’s too early to start saying ash is anything except leaps and bounds better then Flood. The team clearly is improving and that’s what I want to see in a rebuild (although insanly annoying losing to shitty teams and not showing up imho is inexcusable). Next year is a different story though; Bowl or bust. No excuses
No excuses? I'm not freaking out, but there will still be obvious problems. I expect significant improvement, but who's to say if that's enough.
IMO it’s bowl (maaaybe 5 wins) or walking papers, unless he’s recruiting lights out, which I doubt. We can’t keep setting the bar lower every year. He hit par this year. 4 wins, 3 in the B1G but left several opportunities on the table to go bowling. He has done a good job setting a foundation, fixing our S&C, facility improvements and recruiting is decent...but I pay money to win games, not all that other crap.
Can somebody tell me why Sam Hellman reTweets Jason Baum blathering about BC players so it passes through my feed like any Rutgers fan might give a purple fuck? I've enjoyed social media so much more since I wiped that retard out of my follows. /shortrant
Listen terranova if next year we somehow beat a ranked PSU/tOSU/Mich and get a signature win, eliminate the one sided losses, figure out how to play offense and have caught fire on the recruiting trail, then sure wins and losses can take a back seat. But next year HIS recruits will be 85% of the active roster, results have to be shown. Im not talking B1G champions, I’m talking 6 wins and a lesser bowl. I’m like Skoolie, I invest my time and energy to see winning.
Let’s take a way too early look at next years schedule and see what’s realistic 9/1 Texas State, HPSS- MUST WIN 9/8 at Ohio State- LOSS 9/15 at Kansas Jayhawks-WINNABLE 9/22 Buffalo Bulls HPSS- MUST WIN 9/29 Indiana Hoosiers HPSS- WINNABLE 10/6 Illinois HPSS- WINNABLE 10/13 at Maryland- WINNABLE 10/20 Northwestern HPSS- WINNABLE 10/27 OFF 11/3 at Wisconsin- LOSS 11/10 Michigan-HPSS- LOSS 11/17 PSU - HPSS- LOSS 11/24 at Michigan State- LOSS We have 2 must win games with Texas state and buffalo. Full blown riot if we lose a game like that again 5 Winnable games against other middle or the road teams. Kansas will be better and it’s on the road, but they are still a 1 win team this season. Indiana needs to be circled on the calendar (home), Illinois is doable (home), northwestern will be hard but I’m not ready to label them elite and it’s at home, and Maryland is an equal on the road 5 games against the top tier teams. Hard to win any of these games outside of an upset. Good/bad is we play 4/5 late in the season so we should be in our stride at that point but so should they So my opinion of bowl or bust feels about right. We are spotted 2 wins with the must win games. Realistically I think there are at least 4 more wins in the schedule if our offense develops and our defense doesn’t get hit with the injury bug again. 5 wins is only acceptable if we steal an upset/signature win (preferably at home) and look competent against the other top tier teams
the offseason needs to take shape first. consider that northwestern has a potential NFL qb who could go pro. if he does, they lose their all world RB also , that game becomes more winnable. same thing with kansas, even though they suck they have a couple kids who could go pro. indiana and maryland also. a quick look is that indiana loses a lot of seniors, maryland loses an entire defense, kansas, buffalo and illinois return mostly everyone. not going to look at november on at this point in our program
Game last night was fun to watch. We need Corey and Geo to play like that every night. Doucoure's offensive game is leaps and bounds above what I was expecting. I thought he would be the equivalent of a Hamady N'Diaye where he would pretty much just get dunks and put backs. His jumper out to 15 ft is butter and his shooting form is perfect. He needs to get a little more arc under his shot, but that's going to be a big weapon. Really excited for that kid.
Earlington deciding to play just basketball in college. We've already got the best Bosco ball player. :p
What was the deal with Turner and Hogan tonight? Turner was thrown off sideline and Hogan seemed to leave a while before coming back
i think tonight put the final nail in the "this just isnt fun anymore" coffin. We, somehow, got worse statistically this year. not to mention everything about this program is mismanaged. from the players on the field, to the security guards not knowing what items are allowed into the stadium, everything is just fucked up anymore. the band can't even play the alma mater correctly. flood killed everything about the schiano era, and ash has thrown dirt on it.
Mark my words: Tyshon Fogg will start at LB next year. HE is what a LB is supposed to look like. I watched him exclusively throughout most of the game. He would come down hill and meet backs at the LOS. Meanwhile Roberts and Morris run in place and make a tackle 6 yards down field. Can't wait to see Fogg get a spring under his belt. Same goes for O3.
I am constantly sick to my stomach watching the absolute garbage soft coverage that Roberts and Morris employ and then having to hear how they're the best players on our team. Major liability all year. There is an extreme difference between the quality of khaseem or longa's tackles vs Morris, even if they were all high tackle volume guys. You could tell the other two were team leaders and probably had NFL potential. Morris? Waiting for him to be benched. Roberts? Waiting for his legs to fall off cause that's how he was running towards the end of the year. If both are replaced, I'm gonna be happy and the masses are gonna freak the fuck out. /Endrant
You forgot to mention how all the toilets in the stadium were backed up. Only fitting that our season ends with us getting shit on while having literal shit overflow onto the bathroom floors.
Re: I have waited 2 years to make this post I want to congratulate everyone on getting through 2 years of the rebuild. The day Ash was hired I told myself I wouldn't feel good about our roster until NSD 2018. It's been a long 2 years but Ash has turned over this roster quickly and flushed out handfuls of guys (not their fault) who never belonged at this level. Let me throw some truth at you guys... 1. IF we sign 23 kids in this 2018 class (very doable) we will have 60...SIXTY freshman or sophomores on scholarship next year. Wow! 2. We are going to be super young the next 2 years. Also, barring a terrible year next year (less than 5 wins), Ash is going to see 4 years so I suggest you guys not waste your time getting angry this off-season. I base that on looking at all of the terrible decisions to fire coaches right now coupled with our penny pinching BOG giving Flood 4 years. Remember, we have already borrowed money to bring in Ash and staff and fire Flood. Not to mention he should get a chance to coach up actual P5 players. 3. Ash or Kill were on record last week saying the plan to build a B1G team is, "strong defense, play good STs and run the football". We basically want to play like MSU, Iowa and Wisconsin. Our Total D finished 72 (very average) BUT the best we have been since we've been in the B1G. Our points allowed on D 28.3 ppg (again average) BUT again, the best we have been since we've been in the B1G and thats with horrific offense. Our STs improved (KO coverage immensely) as well as punting. Running the football is still sub-par and O needs no explanation, continuity and freshman becoming sophomores can only help that improve. So where does this put us...next year is when it is fair to judge him. Based on 24 games, I am not a huge fan of his gameday coaching and frankly I think his current ceiling is limited. He also needs to grow a pair of balls and start playing to win, not punting on the 40. However, it is very hard for me to figure out how much of that is due to a roster filled with holes all over (we had 3 kids play both ways this year for crying out loud) or his short comings. I think it's both. So I guess what I am saying is the worst is behind us and I honestly believe some small light is appearing at the end of the rebuild tunnel. I will now walk into the stadium in 2018 excited, not, "ok let's get this over with because we have FCS players on our 2 deep". We all need to keep that in mind when dissecting the daily changes to the program and yelling at each other...
