Ahmad I don't think was a terrible scout, I think the bigger problem was we struck out on so many of our top targets, and also their recruiting tactics sucked in all facets.
We found guys like Barkley early. He found Justin Herron before we lost him, he found Cole IIRC. I say this having hated his horrible tactics. He had no business being a RC. Flood also deserves plenty of blame there.
Strongly disagree. This was a guy who wanted a commitment from J Pollock 2 years before he finished HS. Same with Ted Fields. Flood basically treated him as a GM.
Honest question. Not trying to troll here. Do you really think it's Floods fault you didn't hold onto Barkley? It's hard to hold onto those super star kids that commit early. I don't blame Franklin for losing Fields or Parsons. Sometimes there's only so much a staff can do. I mean we won the conference last year and we still had 2 blue chip studs decommit. Fields is a program changing kid and it hurt to lose him. I still don't blame our staff. Follow up question. Do you think having Barkley would've changed the result of any games the last few seasons? You guys are just so depleted.
I think if ash or schiano got an early commit, he would have stayed on board. Flood was just such a clown that it was easy pickings for Franklin.
It is 100% Flood's fault. Schiano would have had him locked up, he was one of the most pro-RU commits I can remember. Flood had a lot of great players committed and then they realized how much of an idiot he was. Fields and Parsons are on a different level anyway. The stories of how he fucked up recruiting these kids are hilarious. 2015 was the first year Flood couldn't rely on Schiano recruits anymore and nothing would have changed the results, especially when they actually ran for over 2,000 yards and 17 td as a team anyway. 2016 was the least amount of talent on the field I have ever seen.
It's a case by case basis though, there are obviously kids that just blow up. We had a 2 star DB from Florida committed in April with like no offers. Then he started started getting offers from all over the country and now he's a Georgia commit close to a 4*. The 2014-15 period was just full of massive fuckups that are at least entertaining to hear about now.
Pretty sure one time rashan Gary visited and nobody on the staff even said hi to him or his mom lol. It's the little things he did..like not being aware enough to acknowledge the #1 recruit in the state/nation when hes on campus that showed how caring and detail oriented he was
On an added note, its not lost on us the psu v rutgers brand when it comes to recruiting and franklin's talent. If its head to head until then end, i would have plenty to worry about. But since psu's options are far deeper, it is not inconceivable that we would hold off a commit long enough so that Franklin would shift gears to option 1B
Didn't they (Flood and crew) pretty much stop recruiting Barkley once he made his verbal, just assuming he would stay on board while his stock soared?
I'd say if Ash and Schiano had his early commit, we would've held on for a lot longer than Flood did with him or landed him. Flood basically gave up as soon as he started showing interest in PSU. We've definitely taken our lumps when it comes to PSU vs RU in head to head recruiting over the years but Flood is a world class incompetent coach. Lemme give you another example of How much he sucked. We had landed Saeed Blacknall in the summer of 2013 and by all accounts he was 100% RU. Then the offense struggled, we had a ton of decommits and the OC left. Saeed stayed committed through a dozen or so other kids decommitting. Flood had been telling him for weeks and weeks leading up to his official visit to not worry and that he was gonna have the OC in place and a detailed plan on how he would be used in the offense. When Saeed's OV rolls along, Flood has no OC in place and no plan on how to use him. Saeed takes an OV to PSU and eventually commits there right before signing day. Another example was from that same class. We had Adonis Jennings (4 star WR from a South Jersey power school) commit to us in the summer to round out a pretty good WR class and we told him we were done recruiting WRs for that cycle outside of Blacknall. A couple weeks later Flood takes a WR commit from a kid from FL (who ends up decommiting to us) which causes Jennings to decommit shortly thereafter. By the end of the 2014 recruiting cycle, we had so many kids decommit that Flood offered some random white WR from Colorado to try and round out the class but he spurned us for University of Miami (OH) who had just gone 0-12 in the MAC. Fuck Kyle Flood.
rivals is just too much right now. its like they just want to ignore how much better washingtons trenches are than us, on both sides of the ball. maybe we wont be down 3 scores in the 1st qrt, but at some point we will be.
Lol I forgot about the OC thing with Blacknall. And Friedgen was hired like 5 days after he de-committed. Another fuck up that ckl22 probably could have handled better.
Thanks guys for making me pissed off. That guy can seriously fvck himself. I hate how he destroyed this place.
Barkley is amazing. We're pretty good at RB but they're not Barkley. It's not so much harping on one player, more that he utterly destroyed the program. I don't think most of the Big Ten previews have given RU's roster even more than token consideration, our RBs are definitely top half of the conference.
He used to blow his "welfare" check at Ellery's in Middlesex - they have $2 Miller Lite mugs. Could've went and punched him in the face, but I guess he's living large in Hotlanta now. Wonder if he'll sell the custom house he had built.
The fact that he was on a scorching hot seat and went ahead and had a house custom built shows what a retard he is.
any predictions for tomorrow? 42-20 washington attendance is less than 40k edwards rushes for 100+ lewis plays
Sounds right. I think we cover the spread if only because it's so high. The weird thing about last year's game was they went up huge early and basically stopped trying for the rest of the game.
I posted this on scout. Just to sum up the QBs all the regulars are the board have argued about Laviano - 3rd string at SDST and quits Rettig - 2nd string in a 1AA team Gio- Sounds like he is destined to be 3rd string by game 5 Allen - Not even sure anyone actually thinks he should play
I expect a better year overall but RU has looked sluggish to awful in basically every opener I can remember. Even in 2006 the UNC game was tough and that UNC team sucked. And in 2012 the showing against Tulane was not impressive at all. Until RU has a good opener I'm always expecting a bad first game.
Not impressed by Bolin. Looks like a moderately wealthy mans Laviano. The lack of throws down field really limits the offense. Still proud of this team
