$50mm following 8-4 would be the cherry on top of this absurd carousel cycle. I guess Sexton got antsy with none of his clients getting big jobs this time.
this was the year of him bending over teams he’s already bent over. he bent PSU over for that Franklin contract and didn’t earlier this year he convinced aTm to give Jimbo a raise from his already insane contract? Plus his lane raise As always….been a plentiful year for ole Jimmy
While I doubt we are going to agree to the first offer, Pittman absolutely deserves a raise. He’s currently the third lowest salary in the SEC, and 54th highest salary in the NCAA. The guy had us ranked top 10 in the nation for a brief period of time this year. Pay the man.
As long as it doesn't fuck up paying assistants idgaf how much money Sexton squeezes out of our donors
why wouldnt you give him a massive raise Arkansas has money for days and its not like there is a coaching salary cap
If Sexton asks for this a few weeks ago, maybe Arkansas gets scared and does it. But at this point, where's Pittman going to go if they say no?
Jimmy Sexton seems like he has 130 clients whose annual salaries combined is greater than the GDP of Moldova.
I guess I'm in the boat that going 8-4, and being 11-11 overall, doesn't mean you just get to request your salary is doubled. Now if he wins 7/8+ again next year, that's reasonable as I think he's proven at that point he can win.
Also, Pittman has said numerous times that Arkansas is his dream job. I don't see him dipping just because he didn't get a pay raise after year 2.
So that’s a reason to screw him over by underpaying him? I don’t think many are arguing he should get Saban type money, but a significant increase is a no brained. He has gone 11-11 with the basically a lot of the same squad that went 2-20 under the previous staff. To me; that demonstrates the value. I am not expecting Arky to be a playoff contender in the next 2-3 years but seeing overall improvement in the program and Pittman has been delivering that.
He wasn't forced to sign the contract. And just because you win 8 games doesn't mean you just get to double your money. Make him prove he's a good coach beyond one season
Yeah, I didn't mean that he wasn't worth a heavy raise. My point was that the scale has changed so much that 8-4 is in the $7+ range.
He'll get paid but not 7. That said, he's likely to get 5.5 or 6, which all at once feels way below the market and also stupidly overpriced.
This was my thought too. Also if he manages to win 9/10 games next year, the donors on the hill will open up the secret gold they have buried under the Walmart HQs.
He’s all yours buddy thanks for doing business with us. Shame we couldn’t match whatever it is you’re offering.
He was part of a group of coaches that actively covered up rampant sexual assault, if that's the sort of thing you're in to.
He's a piece of shit who doesn't belong on a college campus or anywhere else in society for that matter. If Mario hires him, shame on him
He’s done a pretty good job with developing KJ Jefferson into one of the better QB’s in the league. A lot of that can be attributed to having one of the best WR’s in college football. His playcalling can be infuriating because he likes to run QB draws on 3rd and long a lot, likes to run routes short of the sticks and “let our receivers go make plays”. As a coach, he’s not terrible but certainly not great. As a person, he’s a gigantic piece of shit that has no business being on the sideline and it’s the one stain that I hate Pittman did when he came here. It also allows papa Briles to come chill at your practices and act as some sort of consultant which is also gross. Most of us just want him gone and it’s not really for football reasons, but also those too.
I wouldn't say sticking to a contract is screwing someone over. If he had gone 2-10, they wouldn't be getting a refund. I get giving him a new deal to keep him happy and hope to keep him long term but not bc you're screwing him over.
No. They’re courting him I’m sure… but our HC and assistants are all represented by Sexton now, so get used to the rumors.
Sexton doesn’t have the negotiating power right nOw as sam signed an extension earlier this year with his previous agent. This is all power play by sexton trying to get the terms of the buyout changed out of the schools favor to his clients like he always does.
I look at it pretty black and white. We either pay him what the fair market value is, or we don't. I am not saying $7MM is fair market value so please don't misunderstand me. I was simply saying that he is currently undercompensated and my thoughts are we need to fix that. It always helps in recruiting to show the school is committed to their coach. My point is we should pay him in line with what other coaches are earning who are providing similar results. The counter argument was if he said Ark is his dream job, we don't need to pay him fair market value. I looked at an attempt to pay him less than the market, is screwing him. Not a good look in my opinion to not pay a guy simply because he wants to work here. I also understand that making long term agreements with limited evidence of success is how we ended up with Bert. Again, I am not saying we pay him 7 Mil, I am simply saying he is under compensated and should get a raise and a moderate extension when we renegotiate his contract.
Yea I don't think using his dream job against him is fair. I was just saying that sticking to a contract after one good year isn't screwing him over imo. Nobody forced him to sign an extension 6 months ago and Arkansas wouldn't be getting a refund if he went 2-10 this year. There's more to it, like you said, with recruiting and wanting to keep him long term so you want to keep him happy. I just don't think they'd be screwing him over by not doubling his salary 6 months after an extension.
