I second Zunzis. Sly's Sliders and Fries is really good. Wiley's BBQ on Whitemarsh Island is fantastic.
Headed to Savannah this weekend and will be there two full days. Just me, the wife and out two kids (ages 13 and 9). Looking for suggestions for the following: - best breakfast spot - 2 good lunch options - 2 dinner spots (best overall meals that are kid friendly)
We had Rise for chicken biscuits and ate them in a square. Amazing. But probably not a great idea given no seating.
The Warehouse on River Street is a favorite. Cold beer and great oysters. In Tybee, Nickie's 1971 is a dive bar with typical bar food but it's a lot of fun. Great music!
Headed out in the morning. The wife wants to stop in St. Simon’s Island among the way because she saw a bunch of pics in a magazine and she wants to have lunch there. Is this comparable to Tybee? If so, maybe I can talk her into doing Tybee instead so we’ll be closer.
Just got back from the short trip to Savannah. We did stop at St. Simon’s and since it was lunch time we did Southern Soul. The kids absolutely loved it. I thought it was pretty good, and the wife enjoyed it, too. We were BBQ’d out after that so I didn’t get to try B’s Cracklin on this trip. Will keep it mind for the next time. We wound up staying at the Perry Lane, and thanks to Eathan Edwards for the recommendation. It was the perfect location and the rooms were very nice, especially for the price point. Had dinner at Local 11ten on Saturday night and it was fantastic. Did standard Sunday breakfast at Clary’s. Lunch at Sorry Charlie’s was solid for what it is. We were able to grab some Leopold’s ice cream, which is good but not wait in line for half an hour good. Then capped it off with dinner at The Grove, which was just okay thought the restaurant itself is really nicely decorated and had a good vibe. We plan to make several more visits in the future.
Glad to see they got another team. Felt bad when Columbia stole the Sand Gnats a few years ago. (Fireflies are badass though)
It's legit entertaining. The drinks are good. The unlimited food reminds be of highschool cafeteria food in the best kind of way if that is possible.
The Bananas game was a lot of fun even though it was ungodly hot out last night. My son was a dancing machine and got a hat and foam finger, so he's a fan for life now.
I’ll be in Savannah tomorrow night. Staying in the North Historic District and looking for a dinner and breakfast recs.
I was there a few months ago and this place was great for breakfast..... https://claryscafe.com/ The grilled smoked sausage was incredible.
I can update it if you want. Same with hotel recs. We go 2-3 times a year. but my quintessential savannah experience is some mix of Collins Quarter brunch, Perry Lane Hotel rooftop pool, then nightlife at either karaoke bar next to Perry Lane or Savannah Smiles.
You’re good. I just wanted to make sure he knew that it was a few years old in case anything had changed
the Plant Riverside district is new. Good rooftop bar over there, then a bunch of open air bars along the riverwalk. (The old school riverwalk is trashy). Also like Sorry Charlies Oyster Bar now that it has been renovated.
Fran Tarkenton We don’t have any trip planned but out of curiosity, I see that the 2 locations for Collins Quarter have different brunch menus. Downtown or Forsyth Park for you?
Go to downtown location. Its next to one of the iconic parks you see in Forrest Gump. They also have walkup to-go drink window. Forsyth Park location is cool too, but better for ppl that go to SAV frequently. Fantastic Hotel next to it called Mansion on Forsyth, but all of that area sorta loses the walkability.
The Fitzroy is same ownership group as Collins Quarter and also good. But more for Dinner or a Cocktail than Brunch/Lunch.
olde pink house is one of those things to do just to say you did it. Food isn’t anything special at all, and you will have had better food at home from you mom or grandma. Worth it just for experience only I ate at husk in Chucktown about 6 years ago and it was great. I’ve heard it has taken a step back in recent years….no idea about savannah I’d imagine husk would win this debate 9/10 times
But whatever you end up doing, if your night doesn’t end drinking pbr at pinkie masters, did you do Savannah correctly?
Thanks. Just called for a table at Husk. Any other recs on that general vicinity? Tropicalia at the hotel rooftop bar
just depends what you want. cotton and rye is good, but it's not a walk from your hotel. flock to the wok is good if you want chinese, and they have a basement bar that's pretty sick but not sure if open on Sunday. I love The Public for any meal, also probably not a walk from the river but like $8 uber.
