According to my sources
They'll be recruiting champs again in no time
The guy Tennessee shamed away
good for Terri
I guess they feel like they need to lock him down quick so FSU can’t nab him. Good for them
Tennessee not allowing him only to hire Jeremy Pruitt Is amazing
This is as good of a hire as rutgers could ask for right now
It’s up to Rutgers. What could go wrong?
Lance Leipold will announce at the last second he's willing to take the job for $50 a week in Taco Bell coupons.
Damn. No Moorhead?
How do Rutgers fans feel about this?
I mean, it turns out he can’t coach a defense. But sure seems like he can manage Rutgers and make them not a dumpster fire
Why would they feel anything but excited about this?
He was their best coach in history and was a great recruiter while there.
Schiano has become damaged goods since then. He has been awful as a DC and was unfairly run out of UT. Wasn’t sure if opinions changed
Hiring back a coach who bolted after giving your program unprecedented success in the late 2000s never backfires.
Update buddy they haven’t
The majority of the fan base is ready to throw him a parade the minute the pen comes off the paper.
He's the only one besides guys who would never even consider the job that will ignite the state. The HS football coaches loved him.
He used to beat us out for recruits all the time so I hate this
Although we were in the big east back then
I mean...he was good enough to become Bill Belichek's DC....his goods aren't that damaged.
That lasted about 38 days
Kyle freaking Flood managed to have an 8 win season in the B1G with the last of Schiano’s recruits. I will gladly take my chances again.
Some say he knew there would be an opening for him sooner rather than later at his old dream job.
Some really do say that. Not me, but some do.
Bro in here defending Clay Travis yikes
I totally get it. I hope it works out
Because he quit
It’s a no lose situation really.
Either he does a good/decent/adequate job and everything is fine or he fails and there’s really no way to be mad because he was the consensus best option.
Yes, it was all very normal and on the level.
Belichek sure didn't seem happy about it, so it sure seems like Schiano quit on his own. It still also doesn't change the fact he hired him in the first place. He'd also be a head coach in the SEC right now, if it wasn't for the Clay Travis mob. He's really not as bad off as you seem to think he is.
I believe this because he proved he was trustworthy when he immediately reported his first hand knowledge of kids getting Jerry’d at penn state.
devine being complimentary of Rutgers
am I in the twilight zone?
All of my energy has to go towards Nebraska and Trae young, sorry
Belichick and Schiano mutually decided he should resign. Schiano wanted to be a head coach, everybody and their brother knew Ash was gonna get fired, and Belichick didn't want to have to replace his DC right before a playoff run.
His Ohio State defenses were ranked 3, 15, and 53.
His defenses were not good. That’s not really arguable. Look at last year’s defense and this year’s with the same players. Look at last year’s Maryland game. Or Purdue. Or Michigan. Or Iowa before that in 2017. Come on now.
Also, Fickell was DC in 2016. Schiano was some DC in 2017 and 2018.
Okay, 15 and 53. Still not “awful,” and citing individual games (some of which were wins) doesn’t change that.
No, he was awful
Well, he fooled the best coach in the history of the sport into hiring him anyway. So, even if you’re right about him being awful, you’re wrong about the perception of him being “damaged goods.”
Is bro denigrating Schiano as a head coach at Rutgers because Schiano was fucked over by idiots fans of bro's alma mater at Tennessee, or because Schiano wasn't a great DC at bro's favorite team Ohio State? Or because Schiano quit as the DC of the Pats because he wanted to be the Rutgers HC?
What does any of that have to do with Rutgers fans being excited about the return of Schiano?
I’m not denigrating him as a HC. I think it is fair to ask whether Rutgers fans would be excited going back to an old coach who has taken some hits on and off the field, rightly or not.
He did great, ok, then an absolute fucking disaster.
53 is fucking awful and it was 71 in yardage defense, we've recruited as well as anyone and the same players make up the #1 defense this year.
I hope he gets his shit together but last year was a debacle
Rooting for this and then cerebrating at Millburn Deli who's coming with me man
Our defense was really good under him when we had 4 first round picks in the secondary
our scheme was an absolute embarrassment last year
I think it’s a good hire for Rutgers but that is a pretty weird statement to me....John l Smith was a coach in the sec at some point, butch jones too.
He was on oxy and hookers last year
Being a great coordinator and being a great head coach are often different skill sets. Great hire for buttgers
lmao you put butt instead of rut!!!
