Some can watch responsibly. I will watch ahead and rarely partake an any of the discussions. Others choose to be clowns and blurt out shit. Most here are respectful though and don't ruin in. The warning was just to remind people that not everyone wants to watch ahead of HBO.

OK, now I'm super tempted to watch the 2nd episode just because I want some Arya story. if that was in HD...

e: I figure I make it maybe another day before I break and watch it in SD anyway. the rest I can wait on but goddamn I want some House of Black & White.

I love that she "declined" an international blockbuster because she didn't want to be perceived as that type of actress.

    She's an overacting nutcase.

It's the small, inconsequential shit they change that bothers me the most.

In the books Maggy the Frog tells Cersei her husband will have six-and-ten kids. The show changed it to 20. Ultimately it won't matter at all, but that's what makes me so damn confused/mad at why they changed it in the first place. Why? Why? WHY!?!??!?!?!?!

Yeah I still enjoy the show... it's 2 different trips but you end up at the same spot. It's like driving across the country- you can take the interstate the whole way, catch glimpses of a lot of the same stuff, but it's a quicker journey and you'll get there... or you can take the back windy roads you'll see a lot more, it'll be a much more fun journey but it'll take a long ass time and eventually you get there also

I rewatched the last episode from season 4 before season 5 episode 1 and I'm actually glad they left out the I guess he doesn't shit gold part. It would have been absolutely absurd to have Tywin fart/shit noisily on television and then Tyrion have his witty comment.

Seems like writing a paper. Like you want to summarize a good quote but don't want to quote it so you just re-word it a bit in a sad attempt at making it yours. Or maybe sometimes they're writing from memory and don't care enough to double check the exact number.

I'm more annoyed that we're going to get every single boring detail of the Dany in Meereen storyline while other, more interesting stories are cut. even if those stories are ultimately inconsequential I seriously doubt the fighting pits and Dany's marriage are crucial to the end of the story. but she is a popular character so they will milk every minute they can from her.

They told lord Royce they were traveling West. They instead are traveling to the Fingers. My guess is they will take a ship to White Harbor, work something with the Manderly's, then head to Winterfell.

    maybe?

all we know from that episode is they are going West to somewhere even Cersei can't reach Sansa. Runstone (seat of House Royce) is West of the Eyrie so it's certainly a possibility, but I don't know why they would be so cryptic if they were just going home.

    Changes from book to screen

The episode covers the following chapters: Cersei VIII (AFfC), Cersei III (AFfC), Jaime I (AFfC), Tyrion I (ADwD), Daenerys I (ADwD), part of Samwell IV (ASoS), part of Jon XI (ASoS), Cersei II (AFfC), and part of Jon III (ADwD)

    Changes of note, chapter-by-chapter:

    • Cersei VIII (AFfC): In the novel, Cersei dreams of her visit to the witch known as Maggy the Frog with two friends, Melara Hetherspoon and Jeyne Farman. The unnamed girl accompanying her in the show seems more like Jeyne Farman, the most frightened of the three. In the novel, Maggy is an old, warty woman from some eastern place, and is in fact the maternal great-grandmother of Jeyne Westerling. The prophecy as depicted is more or less correct, although in the novel certain other details come out, such as Cersei’s anger when Melara asks Maggy if she’ll marry Jaime, and Maggy’s response that worms will have her maidenhead and that her death is present. More notably, it is explicit that the prophecy states Cersei will outlive her children, and that after this point the “valonquar” (Valyrian for “little brother”) will strangle the life from her.
    • Jaime I (AFfC): In the novel, Jaime stands vigil day and night for several days, and refuses the offers of Ser Balon Swann and Ser Loras Tyrell to spell him for awhile. Jaime has a waking-dream of seeing his mother. He does not dwell very much on Tywin Lannister’s legacy, having no interest in the Lannister power or wealth. Of particular note is the fact that there’s no suggestion on the show that Tywin’s body is rotting, a point made in the novels. Also in the novel Cersei is unaware of Jaime’s involvement in Tyrion’s escape, and indeed Jaime considers revealing it but decides against it. Finally, Cersei does visit Jaime during his vigil, but to attempt to resume their relations and to get him to accept the office of Hand. She leaves angrily at his refusal.
    • Tyrion I (ADwD): One of the more faithful book-to-screen adaptations in this episode, Tyrion’s condition on arrival in Pentos is quite accurate. However, in the novel Illyrio Mopatis is his host in his own manse, and similarly to Varys on the show informs him that he could support Daenerys Targaryen. However, the novels provide a very different origin to the connection between Varys and Illyrio, described in Tyrion II (ADwD) when Illyrio explains that they became friends while Varys was a pickpocket and thief and he himself was a poor bravo selling his sword. Their alliance led to a fortune, first in theft, then in fencing goods, then in stealing secrets. No reference to altruistic protection of the realm from Robert in particular is made.
    • Daenerys I (ADwD): In the novels, it is an Unsullied named Stalwart Shield who is killed by the Sons of the Harpy while at a brothel. As in the novel, his interest was in tenderness and comfort rather than anything sexual, but in the novel Grey Worm is straightforward about the explanation rather than suggesting he has no idea why an Unsullied would be in a brothel. The Sons of the Harpy in the novels are anonymous, but not because they go around in masks, instead blending in with the populace.
    • Samwell IV (ASoS): The Samwell-Gilly discussion very loosely fits the novel’s concern with the upcoming election of the Lord Commander, although in the book its the election of Janos Slynt that is a concern rather than of Alliser Thorne.
    • Jon XI (ASoS): Jon’s meeting with Stannis atop the Wall is inspired by this chapter, although details are substantially different. Notably, Davos is not present at Castle Black in the novels, having other tasks. As on the show, Stannis expresses an interest in making use of the wildlings, though his initial plan is to settle them in the Gift. As in the show, Melisandre does seem to show some interest in Jon, and shares with him the fact that she does not feel the cold, claiming to be filled with the Lord of Light’s fire.
    • Cersei II (AFfC): In the novel, the wake for Lord Tywin is a very large public affair, marred by the visible rotting and stench of Tywin’s corpse. In the novel, Lancel appears very frail and weak, but alive and still intended to wed Amerei Frey and claim the castle of Darry. However, his religious awakening leaves him less than happy at this. He shares with Cersei the peace he’s had from confessing his sins, but he is not explicit about what those might be as he is on the show.
    • Jon III (ADwD): The death of Mance Rayder appears superficially the same, with the King-beyond-the-Wall burned alive. However, in the novel it is not in fact Mance but a glamour placed on Rattleshirt who is tricked into thinking he will survive the event. When he realizes he will be burned, unlike Mance, Rattleshirt-as-Mance attempts to escape and starts to beg. As on the show, Jon Snow has “Mance” killed, although in the book he orders a number of archers to do the deed while on the show he does it personally.

Still pretty solid odds Loras will wind up a Kingsguard, right?

Sansa/LF probably just gonna stroll around the Vale doing some political maneuvering and setting up Sansa w/ Harry The Heir right?

The one thing that sucks about the changes is that GRRM told the show runners the end game and therefore changes that are made are spoilers to the books, which sucks but whatever. Clearly the changes made to the Greyjoy storyline pretty much eliminate them from being of any true importance long term right?

Yeah I think Sansa/LF are just lining up with Harry the Heir.

Just because the Greyjoys aren't in the story line doesn't mean they don't play a big role in getting to the end, they just won't be on top at the end (which we already all assumed)

Think the Greyjoys could be pretty easily inserted next season(the ones that matter at least, Euron and Victarion). They are definitely important and the optimist in me just thinks the TV guys didn't want to add a 3rd entirely new group of characters/plot in the same season as Dorne/Faith Militant

My issue with the changes is that season 1 was practically verbatim from the books. If they wanted to change a bunch of shit and do a different story then why not do it from the start.

The first 3 books were a lot easier to adapt. Sometimes great stories in novels don't make for great TV. Book 4 and 5 do very little to move the overall plot that the viewers care about. I'm okay with the direction they're going.

Spoiler about The Hound in the show.

Graves also suggested that The Hound will not be coming back after Arya left him to die on that hillside. “As far as The Hound, as I told the story … he’s gone. How is he going to survive that? The real point of it was that she walks away, it wasn’t that it’s left open ended.”

Ultimately, adapting the shit show and jumbled mess that are books four and five must be a tremendous challenge. The introduction of Victarion, Aegon, etc. make for quality reading, BUT also make it likely that we will never see the end of the story as told by Martin...

The one thing I can't stand is the changes to Jaime's story... Everything from his discussions with an imprisoned Tyrone, no confession, his scheming as he stands in vigil, and then just skipping his attempt to passify the realm... It all upsets me a bit.

I try not to jump to conclusions about what show changes means for future plot lines in the book. They may be heading to the same endings but are obviously taking different paths there. I definitely don't think because Mance died in the show means that he is truly dead in the books nor that just because Aegon seems like he won't be in the show definitely means he is fake in the books (although I've always thought he was a pretender). Also just because they know how ASOIAF ends doesn't mean that GoT ends the same way. I think it will be very similar but the exact ending may be unfeasible for them, especially if they don't introduce Euron because obviously ASOIAF ends with Dany and Euron running King's Landing.

Maybe I'm being optimistic but its better than freaking out over every show change. I mean I hate 99% of the changes especially the ones that don't even mean anything (Jaime and Tyrion's convo, Wherever Whores Go, Only Cat etc...)
