D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, who created the hit HBO drama, covered some fun behind the scene stories at a panel Sunday. They also confirmed that the eighth and final season will only be six episodes. "We have a 140 page outline for what's only going to be six episodes for the final season," Benioff told the packed audience after describing how the show is preparing for its final run. The series just wrapped its seventh season, which will debut on July 16. The upcoming season will also be shortened with just seven episodes instead of the usual 10. (CNNMoney and HBO are both owned by Time Warner (TWX).) The creators were joined by cast members Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, who play Arya and Sansa Stark on the show. The two young stars moderated the talk and joked with the creators about giving away the details of the anticipated next season. "Should we just tell everyone now?" Weiss laughed. "It's a lot of work to shoot this." With the show being one of the most popular and talked about on TV, Williams asked how "Game of Thrones" stops spoilers from leaking out. "Intimidation and murder," Weiss joked. Benioff then added that it's hard to keep things under wraps, but the series, which is based on George R.R. Martin's book, hasn't been hurt by spoilers in the past. "People had the spoilers of Ned's death in a f***ing book and somehow that season still worked," he said.

But after that, HBO is determined to make sure the ratings bonanza continues. According to Entertainment Weekly, the cable network is looking to create not just one but four Game of Thrones spin-offs that will "explore different time periods of George R.R. Martin's vast and rich universe." The show concepts are being developed by Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential), Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class), and Carly Wray (Mad Men), with Martin himself working on Goldman and Wray's projects. Current Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff will serve as executive producers on any show that gets made. No details of any possible show have been leaked yet, but one likely idea will be an adaptation of George R.R. Martin's "Dunk and Egg" stories, which take place before the events of the show. Game of Thrones may end next year, but, as we saw with Jon Snow, what is dead may come back to rule.
There was a long GOT article in Entertainment Weekly's summer TV preview issue and it said the dragons were now "the size of 747's with firepower to match."
Yeah, that's the dragon bit at least. The article in the physical magazine was 5-6 pages and covered more than just the dragons. Looks like they break it down into smaller articles for their site but at the same time the version in the magazine took the smaller articles and condensed them which left out some details. The diameter of Drogon's flame wasn't mentioned in the magazine but a ton of what's in that online story is verbatim from the magazine. Seems like a strange thing to do.
Also mentioned in the EW article is that this season will move at a blistering pace. Subplots that may have been teased and stretched over an entire season will now take place in a single episode. So maybe Drogon is the size this guy is using from the promo pic early-ish in the season then closer to Balerion at the Field of Fire by the end. Now that they said we're getting dragons the size of 747's I want dragons the size of 747's. I need dragons the size of 747's.

Though a few minutes here or there have been known to change in the HBO schedule, if it is to be believed we now know the running time of every season seven episode. And the last two are record-length! Let’s just get to the hard data, because that’s what you are all looking for here: Episode 1: 59 minutes. Episode 2: 59 minutes. Episode 3: 63 minutes. Episode 4: 50 minutes. Episode 5: 59 minutes. Episode 6: 71 minutes. Episode 7: 81 minutes. Now let’s play with the numbers: the last two episodes will break the record established by the last aired episode, the season six finale “The Winds of Winter”, which stood at 68 minutes. This year’s finale will reportedly top it by 13 minutes. For this show, that’s a lot. Together, these seven episodes make up about 7 hours 20 minutes. With three fewer episodes to work with, that may be significantly less than the average 9 hours 15 minutes season, yet at the same time it’s the longest run of seven episodes in the show, by far, despite claims by EW that this season’s episodes wouldn’t be significantly longer. Historically, the average episode ranges very little from season to season (from a low of 54:25 in season two to a high of 56:08 in season one), so it’s fair to claim this season leaps ahead with its 63 minutes average — that is, 8 minutes longer than the typical Game of Thrones episode. Though the longer episodes do not make up for the missing three, they do make up for one of them; this season may as well have eight episodes.

got into a GoT discussion with a girl on a dating app. she's testy about George. I decided to move on after the last message her: I don't, and it's killing me. I'm an avid book reader of the series, and I hate that the show has surpassed the books. I mean, I love the show for entirely different reasons, but it was nice knowing more or less what was happening. me: Ooooh don't like surprises? George is a fat piece of shit and gonna die of a heart attack before Winds of Winter is done her: I hate that line of thinking. He has no health issues and is probably hella stressed out by all the people who talk like that. I'd have writer's block from that kind of stress, no doubt. He's been working on so many different projects, it's insane. me: Soooo stop working on all the sub-stories, finish your bread and butter, and THEN get back into the rest. And I find it hard to believe a 68 year old that's legitimately obese has no health issues. My hippo is skeptical her: I find the criticism from everyone wholly exhausting, and I'm not even the one who has created an entire universe that is so vast it rivals LOTR and literally has thousands of characters. There are plenty of obese people who live well beyond 68. I've met the guy in person, and he is a genuinely a good guy who functions just as fine heath-wise as the next person.
The show going passed the books is a problem that is much bigger than being surprised. The show is only giving you the basics when compared to the books. There are so many story lines that aren't being covered in the show, but despite the show not covering them the show could or have already spoiled the ending for book readers.
