Watching Ep 1. I completely forgot we had incestuous tit groping and full ass shot with Dany right off the bat. I'm going to spend way to much time rewatching this.
It's amazing going back and rewatching old episodes and catching subtle references and foreshadowing. Like the 1st episode when Dany walks into the bathwater and the servant says it's too hot but it doesn't burn her.
Yup. Little stuff like Bran constantly climbing and Hodor standing next to him when they receive Robert. At the time of air it never connected even though I was a book guy. Pretty cool.
Season 1 is so much better than the most recent season, it's kind of depressing. It's went from a story with incredible depth and great storytelling to another cheesy action thriller.
I can see why they had to cut it to 7 episodes. It looks like one long movie full of battles of fire and ice.
I don't think it was cut. They've written and planned for last two seasons to be about this many hours for a long time
Exactly. they wrote and planned to cut the episodes to 7 instead of 10. The budget for some of these episodes will be close to the amount it would be to make a big budget movie.
Really, as far as seasons go, I thought season 5 was the weakest (Hardhome was fantastic though). Thought season 6 was strong, I'd put Battle of the Bastards and Winds of Winter up against any episode from the series
I thought Battle of the Bastards was an abomination. Every battle on the show has ended the exact same way and Jon Snow's character has turned into a complete moron.
Show Jon has always let his feels get in the way if solid decision making. It's just that instead of him really paying prices for his decisions it usually ends up further building his legend.
His last chapter in the books he wasn't exactly doing sound decision making That said the show had definitely taken some intelligence points from him. He was a very shrewd lord commander
yep. if she were hotter, i'd probably be okay with someone taking a playful conversation and getting super serious (that was like 4 messages deep into the interaction). and she said "Hella" a 68 year old that's 5'6" and pushing what 250? and has no health issues? skeptical as fuck yo
Like you think so? I think fans get blinded by how well the action is filmed that they don't even think about the plot anymore. Why doesn't Sansa tell Jon about Littlefinger? How is Jon Snow not dumb enough to fall in Ramsey's obvious trap? Why does every single battle in the show have to end with the losing side getting their ass saved unexpectingly in the last hour by another party from offscreen? None of those answers to those questions make sense to the characters or the plot, they were simply for dramatic effect. This show has become a total bastardization of what it was in seasons 1-3. While the action and production value has increased ten-fold, the writing has lost all depth and the characters have suffered greatly because of it. Jon Snow has no cunning or wit whatsoever in the show, he's simply the luckiest bastard ever. The plot & characters has always been what's made the story great and it's disappointing that B&W are sacrificing that just to make cool battle scenes. It's still a fun show to watch, but it's become nothing more than another dumb action thriller.
I somewhat agree with you but not to the level you're taking it. I still think it's pretty well written, just not to the level of season 1-4. I do think Winds of Winter is the best episode they've ever done though.
There's been 4 battles, hardhome didnt end that way, and if I remember correctly blackwater and the wildlings at the wall pretty much ended the exact same way in the book. Let's not pretend GRRM wouldn't write it just like that. You can hate it, but deus ex machina, has always been a big element in this show and really fantasy stories in general. Instead I chose to enjoy the best battle scene in tv history. Also I'm only 3 books in, but book John doesn't do shit either
Lord of the rings -saved by the eagles -army of the dead -Tom Bombadil That's the way epic fantasy goes.
I think you raise some fair points but one thing I will say is Jon knew he was falling into Ramsey's trap. he just couldn't let Rickon die without trying to save him even if it wasn't the strategically smart decision.
pretty dickish response considering he's just trying to keep people from getting spoiled about the books in the show thread.
What would Sansa tell Jon exactly? I would imagine that Jon would want to know why she refused LF's help and once he's told about it he would not be happy about her reaching out LF for help. Sansa was stupid to turn down LF's offer in the first place and once she reached out to him she was not sure if he would come and help.
There's people who consume the show only. This is what this thread is for. It's posted in the other thread. I'm just looking out for people who don't want anything ruined or spoiled
I think it worked out pretty well. If the knights of the Vale had fought beside Jon, they would have probably ended up in the middle of the phalanx with everyone else
I don't even understand the point of criticizing the decision making of a character like Sansa who has fucked up over and over throughout the series. "Hey, why didn't she escape with the hound when she had the chance? Dumb writing." "Hey, why did she tell Littlefinger about her deal with the Tyrell's? Shitty writing." The answer is because she makes shitty decisions all the time. She was basically a hood ornament for the first 15 years of her life and is a flawed character like everyone else in the series.
This will be my first season watching since cutting the cord. We are stealing my mother in laws HBO go. Does anyone know what time new episodes are available to watch on hbo go?
but its usually better to wait because the sooner you do it the more it buffers sometimes because everyone is doing it at the same time
Agreed. Cersi was getting there for me but I have to admit, the badass way she took over was so amazing. That whole episode was such a beautiful poetic story played out
I was all jacknicholson during that scene And savage Cersei is definitely one of my favorite characters
Made the "The King is Tired" scene all the better.... Charles Dance was so perfectly cast, a character I soundly loathed in the books, was perfectly evil on the show...
