Dany is to the nerds Jon is to GRRM Jon have her the D (the books) and then all of a sudden stopped and drove Dany mad and the only way Jon can stop her is to stab her while she is getting what she wants
I don't even know what B&W were thinking. They gameplanned the final three episodes. They knew Dany would almost single-handedly win the battle for KL. They didn't need the Dothraki. After the battle for Winterfell they should have all be killed, leaving Dany with half her unsullied, a little more desperate and reeling. That would have given her more motivation to do what she did in KL.
I like this take. I thought we were supposed to learn more about monarchical rule and political games but in the end it was just lol dragons.
love - Jon blood - Mirri Maz Duur gold - Jorah The second two we know, but did John really betray her FOR love?
I think he betrayed HER love. Not sure if that’s textually correct but it fits if you think of it like that
I suppose the word "for" carries multiple meanings. I doesn't have to be a betrayal "to obtain" love, but a betrayal "concerning" love.
Yeah, think that’s right. And I like how Jon will be haunted by his decision a little bit. It was clunky, but he clearly isn’t totally committed to the act when he walks in the Throne room. He’s mulling over what Tyrion asks him still. Dany seals the deal by showing no remorse and doubling down when confronted about the innocents. Love is the only reason Jon’s even able to be in that room. They’ve been intimate in the past and she does love him, and therefore trusts him. So, to get that close and slip a blade into her is a definite betrayal of her love and trust. That would haunt you even if you had to do it.
I'm going to watch it again tonight, too. I think I was already pissed off and expecting it to be shit because I'd read the spoilers.
Jon had to kill Dany. dany’s ability to respawn almost her entire army after each battle would have made her impossible to defeat.
I’ve done a bunch of rewatches in between seasons and the show was once at a different level. Guess more than anything, I’m bummed it’s over and my ultimate takeaway is that I’m unsatisfied. Pardon me, while I satisfy myself .....
Don't think I'll be able to bring myself to watch the series finale again for a while. I can't take the heartbreak right now
In case you guys haven’t noticed, I have no intention of working today I’ve come to the conclusion that episodes 1-3 are basically appropriately paced. One more build-up episode could’ve been nice. Loved the decision to make the Long Night one excellent episode of Sapochnik and Djawadi doing their thing. Episode 6 has some wild gaps in time but it’s more understandable as a half epilogue to the story. 5 and 6 work decently as two parts of a single film. Episode 4 is the true victim of the six episode season. Things happen at such a wildly uneven pace it’s hard not to get whiplash. Back in the day, it would have been at least two episodes, maybe three: Hound and Arya contrasting redemption themes in some buddy cop side plot on the road, Dany wrestling with trust issues and her mounting personal losses, Jon slowly realizing that he can’t escape who he is once the whole world knows, more Tyrion and Varys plotting, etc. The last twenty minutes of episode 4 had to be its own episode and none of this sneak attacking armada shit. Make it understood and accounted for that a naval battle would go down in order to take Dragonstone. There are perfectly reasonable ways to write an injured Rhaegal getting killed in that scenario.
All the people who were “too cool” to watch GOT all the sudden coming out of the woodwork is real fun twist.
Like all of your wives and lovers, the ending left me unsatisfied. But for some reason I was content with it.
Really good interview with Clarke https://www.newyorker.com/culture/t...e=owned&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social
Probably already discussed , but I guess at the end of the day we never found out what Bran was doing during the Battle of Winterfell. Or he was just chilling in some ravens watching.
Sansa seceded the North in two lines of dialogue and couldn’t convince those people to free the savior of humanity for killing a bloodthirsty tyrant. Lmao the Starks ain’t shit.
