rumor is he declined to fire assistants so our new AD fired him. looks like the buyout is pretty cheap like $2 million total
Correct. And said goodbye to players at the facility yesterday. Just didn’t know if it was goodbyes for the season or what
Kelvin Sampson would be a great hire. Obviously can recruit with the best of them, and has been successful at multiple programs. He'd be high on my list after Beard, Prohm, Cronin. Seems like hiring the up and coming mid major coaches after a good NCAAT run rarely pans out.
Prohm just re-upped at Iowa State I think. My hot board is: 1- Beard 2- Sampson 3- Musselman 4- we’re fucked
He can't even play. Like medically isn't cleared and not sure if he ever will be. Won't be much of a loss
fyi fertitta is not going to let sampson come to arkansas. he will match or exceed any offer and houston > fayetteville for sampson i'm sure
we will probably end up with the guy from nevada who coudn't get out of the first round with one of the best players in school history
i think everyone would love sampson but why would he ever leave UH to come to Arkansas when the money will be similar or more in Houston?
With Cal, Barnes, Pearl, and Howland already surrounding us, can't wait until Buzz and Sampson are in the conference too and we hire some guy who has been to the tourney a couple of times in 5 years at a mid-major. Seems like a recipe for success!
I actually don't blame someone for not knocking down the door on Musselman. He's had decent success for a very short period at a place with a history of success, and with a much more talented roster than his competitors. There's been a lot of coaches with that background come into this conference, and the rate of success hasn't been particularly good.
Supposedly he was totally on board coming to Bama last time around, but wife ended that talk. I think they're just people who don't want to move around. Whatever job he takes next is likely his last, he's waiting for it to be the big one.
Seems like a lot of our players are lashing out at fans for getting what they wanted at their expense, which is understandable considering none of them would be playing P5 basketball had it not been for MA being a god awful recruiter and having to settle for shitty players like them.
The rumor was he wanted to wait until his kids were out of HS, which I htink is the case now. Bloom might be off the rose now though,
Anderson recruited really well at Arkansas, imo. He just couldnt keep many good recruits from transferring out.
Re Sampson - While I have no doubt he was dirty AF at Oklahoma and Indiana - he was essentially black balled from cbb for 7 years or so for making too many phone calls to recruits. Sounds so silly in retrospect.
i want to get out more than anything--i hate houston 60 year old black basketball coaches probably think houston is the shit though
Dude made too many phone calls. Didn't pay recruits, didn't arrange academic fraud or anything awful. He just made too many calls And those rules were overhauled like a decade ago Sampson is as good a candidate as there is right now
Lost Kevaughn Allen (4 year player at UF that was perfect for his system) Lost Malik Monk Lost Archie Goodwin Lost Eric Curry Lost several others that went to P5 programs Would have lost Moses Moody Lost multiple transfers that ended up being very good players at other programs like Weiler Babb, Jacorey Williams (fuck him though), Whitt, and soon to be Darius Hall among many others. Only landed guys that were going to be hogs regardless like Portis, Gafford, Joe. Got unlucky with Garlands heart issue. He’d be right there with Joe as our 2nd best player this past year. He didn’t recruit any big this year even though he fully knew Gafford was going pro. His piss poor roster management and not having any seniors on the roster and only one Jr with his system philosophy was his undoing. Love the guy and appreciate what he did here, but this is a business and when attendance and donations start drying up, it forces our AD’s hand.
