It depends. Destination job over a blueblood? No. But could be a destination job for that next level guy. UA has the money to make it happen, but hasn't showed the willingness to commit it toward basketball (salary, yes, but not facilities). Oats is a weird cat. I'm not sure how he'd be received at an elite basketball school. Thankfully he mostly keeps it under wraps, but some of his twitter follows/likes, I'm pretty sure he's a hardcore Trumper.
I hate this. No we aren't. We might have second most wins, but Florida and Arkansas both have better historical success than we do because they've both actually won things that matter.
This would be like saying TAMU is the second most successful football program in the SEC because they have a bunch of made up titles from the 20s.
Eh, it's different than that. It's all based on the fact that we have the second most SEC wins all time. So historically we've generally been consistently pretty good compared to rest of conference, but we've never gotten over the hump. And of course we have more SEC wins than Arkansas. They've only been in the conference for 30 years, but their basketball history is much, much better than ours. And while Florida has greatly underachieved for most of the program's history, it's been far superior to Alabama for the last 30 years and has reached heights Alabama has never come close to.
Not going to act like he wouldn’t take a UK, UNC, Duke or even a top Big 10 job, but it isn’t going to be because of salary. It will be for the prestige and doing it at a blue blood. If he leaves for a lateral move it’s because we aren’t giving him the tools he needs to have big success. He was on Jeff Goodman’s podcast this week and they were asking him about Saban and the football culture. He says he loves it because no one bothers him with media stuff until right before the season, so he can just do his own thing and coach. When he took the job he talked to Few and Stephens. Stephens told him if he ever got back into College coaching it would be at a big football school for that reason.
I feel like every time there is a coaching search, someone makes a comment like this Do you honestly think living in “the state of Alabama” as you put it is any worse than living in places like Lexington Kentucky, Lawrence Kansas, East Lansing Michigan or any number of other college town in various states across the country? I just think its kind of an ignorant comment to make, but thats my two cents
But it wasn't always. It's dumb fucking luck that UK became a "blue blood" because nothing about the state inherently breeds basketball talent or makes someone want to live there. One coach made you a blue blood, the same way Bear did for Bama. These aren't destination states or areas. Hell, they're not even hot beds of talent.
It’s University of Kansas, University of Kentucky, and Michigan State vs fucking University of Alabama. Not even in the same stratosphere of basketball history. People willingly take those jobs in spite of the location because of what those jobs are.
I admittedly know very little about the leather helmet days. I guess in that sense, Alabama was a hotbed of talent.
Thats not what you said though. You said you dont see “the state of Alabama” as somewhere people would want to live for the rest of their lives. Go back and read your own post. No one is arguing the reputation of those basketball schools vs Alabama. It’s obviously not even close.
I suggest you give it another read since you are having trouble understanding. Kentucky and the like are destination jobs. They could be in the middle of a baren wasteland and top coaching prospects would still take the job. That isn’t the case with Alabama.
Again, no one is arguing that, but that isnt what you said. Reading comprehension clearly isn’t a strong suit of yours so we’ll just let it lie to avoid turning this thread into a shitshow
Milo's tea and Milo's restaurants are completely unrelated operating entities and ownership groups. Some machiavellian shit went down when they sold the restaurant several years ago.
I understand what you're saying but it honestly feels like Oats is the type of personality that would stick here. His attitude and personality fits Alabama athletics like a glove. Not to mention Saban is like an idol to him. Before we even hired him or even heard of him he was quoting Saban a lot in interviews and had a few Saban books front and center on his desk. It just feels like a really good match for us
Just looking at Kentucky’s upcoming schedule. LSU @#18Alabama #5 Texas @#19 Missouri #6 Tennessee Damn.
What the fuck just happened? Is this the worst team in UK’s program history? Honestly asking. I haven’t watched a single second of UGA basketball this season because sports are stupid.
