A spot to talk about the second amendment and gun ownership and not clog up another thread. Good for gun nuts and gun haters alike. Couldn’t find the old thread we had.
This is the old one: https://www.the-mainboard.com/index...ead-so-we-dont-trash-the-texas-thread.155733/
Don’t own a gun, never want one and think much stricter gun restrictions need to be put in place. Longer background checks, ban AR-15, AK-12 & 15s.
I enjoy shooting guns and use them to hunt but also know there is a pretty obvious solution to gun violence. Outlaw semi-automatic weapons. But also there's a leftist argument to not agree to disarmament.
For assault weapon/high capacity magazine bans. If you can’t kill it with less than 10rds you’re either a shitty hunter or ineffectively defending yourself. For more stringent laws regarding criminal liability if your weapon is not properly secured and used in the commission of a crime. For longer mandatory waiting periods and background checks that more closely resemble the extent and time it takes to obtain a concealed carry permit or class 3 license. It’s bizarre that it can take half a year to get a suppressor legally, but half an hour to get a gun. Tax ammo.
Guns and ammo already have a 10-11% excise tax due to the Pittman-Robertson act. I'm not opposed to it but gun buyers don't really give a shit about additional taxes.
Pittman-Robertson is an interesting component because guns and ammo purchases distribute over a billion dollars annually to wildlife/habitat restoration and conservation.
Let’s get rid of everything but revolvers, bolt action rifles, and shotguns with very limited and regulated exceptions. Buy back the rest and impose civil liability on those who don’t turn them over.
Add a $20 a year license fee for every firearm. Same buyback for those firearms that you do not want to license regardless of type. Make it a felony with loss of voting right offense if caught with unlicensed firearm. Require registration for transactions by both seller and buyer for new and used. Only exception for antique collector sales.
As a lever action enthusiast, I would request they also be included in the exception. But, otherwise, I agree.
This country breaking apart into multiple countries feels far more likely than anything that's been suggested itt ever happening here
I see a car at school drop-off just about everyday with this sticker in the back window of their suv lmao
You don’t think those idiot parents in MI going to prison for twenty years would give other idiot parents some pause about buying or securing their guns?
For the second time in the last few weeks I saw a guy in the grocery store wearing combat boots, black pants, gun on hip, a tactical vest and a helmet on his head. Both times I have saw him he was wearing the same exact outfit.
no--there is a mountain of evidence that shit like this doesn't deter crime. so not sure how it would deter gun ownership.
Laws like that only deter reasonable people. Reasonable people don’t arm their children in the first place.
To who? Colt’s Manufacturing gonna pay parents of dead American kids with money they got selling guns to our mass murderers in Afghanistan?
Limits on how many firearms an individual can own or possess 6-round magazine limits for all Psych evals Background checks with way more disqualifications Banning any rifle with a semi-auto action. Disqualification for any active police or military from private ownership. Conduct reviews and stringent evaluation for former. No carry. Any transport outside of a private residence must be locked. Exceptions for designated areas such as ranges and public hunting lands.
i don't understand the allure of hunting. as a kid i went dove hunting 6-7x and every time i was like this blows ass father in law bought some dove hunting trip in argentina at a charity auction and asked if i wanted to go and i could not have said no faster
You should've gone. Those things are mostly eating steak and drinking wine with shooting dove thrown in.
Charity bird hunts are for rich people who want to pretend to hunt but really would rather drink good booze and smoke cigars. They're canned and honestly what most people hate about hunting.
Na not a fan of this. It would end up guns foe the rich and no guns for everyone else. Fuck that, I want no guns for anyone.
We just accept that violence over there is ok and violence here isn’t, and the way to fix it is to use war profits to placate victims domestically. It’s so disgusting. We have absurd violence here because of the absurd violence we inflict elsewhere.
This is a weird connection to make and also like, severely simplifies a really complicated issue that lets other major issues slide.
yeah they were like omg you can just point your gun up in the air and you'll hit something was like that doesnt sound tight?
