WUNDERDOG Picks and Analysis Game: Central Michigan at Bowling Green (Saturday 10/24 12:00 PM Eastern) Pick: Bowling Green +8 (-110) The Chippewas boast the best overall record in the MAC at 6-0, as well as the best record in the Conference at 4-0. They will face a Bowling Green team that has suffered just one loss in the conference, and as such, this is an important game for both teams as it relates to the conference championship. Bowling Green has proven that they can play when they choose to show up, as they had Missouri on the ropes before falling 27-20. And, they already own an impressive 31-14 win over a good Troy team. Outside of the Boise State game, who seems to be steamrolling everyone as usual, no one has beaten this Falcons team by more than a TD. It is no secret that the Falcons are going to air it out. And why not? With QB Tyler Sheehan having already thrown for 2,336 yards and 14 TDs the Falcons can score. They have topped the 30-point mark in each of the last three. Central Michigan has a big win over Michigan State and knows a little about scoring themselves, having put up 48+ three timesalready. This one should be fun to watch as both teams can put up points in a hurry, but the Chipps are down when they face a team on the road with a losing home record, cashing just one of their last four. The Falcons rise to the occasion as a home dog of 3.5-10 where they are 6-1 ATS in their last seven and have enough offense to hang inside the number here. Bowling Green gets the call.

Play Selected Point Spread: -20.5/-110 I'm laying the points with USC. I had a big play (2008 Sept. GOM) on Oregon State when the Beavers upset the Trojans last season. I'll admit that I didn't call for the outright upset. However, I did feel the number was much too high, for a game at Corvallis. Not only is this season's rematch being played in Southern California, but we've actually got a lower number to work with. With the Trojans coming in with "payback" on their minds, I feel that lower number provides us excellent value on the favorite. USC doesn't lose too many games - the Beavers were the only ones to beat them last year. This season's loss at Washington nothwithstanding, the Trojans don't lose many conference road games either. When they do, they almost always avenge those losses when they host the team the following season. Prior to last year's loss at Oregon State, the Trojans last Pac-10 road loss was at Oregon in 2007. Last year, the Trojans hosted the Ducks and won 44-10 as 16 point favorites! In 2006, they lost at UCLA and at Oregon State. In 2007, when hosting those teams, they won by a combined score of 48-10. That included a 24-3 win and cover over the Beavers, as 15 point favorites. Including that victory, the Trojans are a perfect 21-0 the last 21 times that they hosted the Beavers. The last three of those victories all came by a minimum of three touchdowns, each also resulting in a pointspread win. Including the 24-3 win here in 2007, the Trojans beat the Beavers by a score of 52-28 here in 2005 and 22-0 here in 2003. While the Trojans haven't been blowing their opponents out quite as much as they have in past years, their 30-3 victory at California (vs. a really good Bears team) proved that they're still fully capable of crushing teams, when properly motivated and when everything is clicking. Despite playing a relatively difficult schedule, the defense ranks in the top 5 in the country and allows a mere 2.1 yards per carry and 67 rushing yards overall. Meanwhile, the offense put up 500 yards and 34 points last week with QB Barkley, who was out in USC's lone loss, threw for 380 yards. Pete Carroll had this to say of his young quarterback: "I think you see Matt Barkley is really something. I love him, the way he plays, battles, competes, the plays he's capable of making. There's no limit." I expect the Trojans defense to do a MUCH better job stopping the run and also for Barkley to build off last week's big game. I also expect Carroll to "keep the pedal to the metal" the whole way, leading to a convincing win and cover. *10 Blowout GOY

Both are coming off games which ended in "wild finishes," ASU getting a 'miracle' win and Stanford suffering a heartbreaking loss. The Huskies and Sun Devils were tied at 17-all in Tempe last Saturday and seemingly headed for OT. However, Washington used poor clock management in the final minute or so and wound up having to punt the ball back to ASU with 22 seconds remaining. ASU senior QB Danny Sullivan, who has faced calls from critics to be replaced by highly-touted freshman Brock Osweiler, threw a 50-yard TD pass to Chris McGaha with five seconds to play, giving ASU a stunning 24-17 victory. It marked the longest completion of the embattled QB's career and was the only catch of the night for McGaha, who had missed practice all week with illness but somehow got behind the ENTIRE Washington secondary and was WIDE OPEN! As for Stanford, the Cardinal would blow a 15-point lead to Arizona, including a 38-29 lead in the 4th quarter. The Wildcats closed within 38-36 with 10 minutes to go on a 43-yard TD run and then stopped Stanford on downs at their own eight-yard line. A 37-yard pass got them near mid-field and on a 3rd and 17 play, Arizona broke a 57-yard TD run. With the Wildcats up 43-38, Stanford again reached the Arizona red zone (as far as the 12) but again came up empty. So what happens here? ASU has dominated the last three years of this series , outscoring the Cardinal 120-23 in three wins but a closer look at the recent history shows the home team going 8-1 SU and 7-2 ATS in this series. Sullivan is NOT a good QB (54.5% with a 5-5 ratio) and the ASU running game has no 'star' while averaging 141.8 YPG. The defense is excellent (247.8 YPG / 16.0 PPG allowed) but will be severely tested here on "The Farm." Stanford is led by an outstanding 6' 4" freshman QB, Andrew Luck (57.7% / 227 YPG / 9-3 ratio) and senior RB Toby Gerhart (869 YR / 5.2 YPC / 12 TDs) leads the way for a running game which averages 201.1 YPG (5.2 YPC) with 15 TDs. The Stanford defense is middle-of-the-pack but the ASU offense doesn't own the 'tools' to expose those weaknesses. Stanford is 3-0 SU and ATs at home this year (outscoring opponents on average, 33.3-15.7 PPG) and is 7-1 SU at home since the beginning of last year, losing only USC. In its two Pac 10 home games of 2009, the Cardinal have dominated the line of scrimmage in beating both Washington and UCLA, running for an average of 247.5 YPG (5.3 YPC) while holding their two conference foes to just 97.5 YPG (3.5 YPC). Note that ASU is just 9-19-2 ATS (32.1 percent!) as an away dog this decade. I used a 10* on Stanford back on Sep 26 and the Cardinal CRUSHED Washington, 34-14. Same score here! Better coach, running game, and revenge (hasn't won road game vs UVA in 19 years) This Week's Football Card Doc’s Sports is coming off back-to-back top game winners in college football the past two weeks. Last Saturday we easily nailed our Revenge Game of the Year, as Clemson (7-point favorite) destroyed Wake Forest, 38-3. This game went exactly like we anticipated with Clemson jumping out early and never looking back. The week before we collected with Fresno State (10-point favorite) at Hawaii, winning 42-17. PINNACLE I’m going back to the well after getting humiliated last week because I still have no faith that Kansas State is anything close to a decent football team. I’ll give the Wildcats credit for embarrassing Texas A&M last week in a result not many people expected but to make them a favorite based on that performance is simply foolish. Texas A&M obviously wasn’t ready to play and that falls on the coaching staff led by NFL failure Mike Sherman. Dan Hawkins is a legitimate coach that had massive success at Boise State but more importantly had the fortitude to pull his son Cody Hawkins and replace him with Tyler Hansen. That quarterback switch sparked a 34-30 upset of #17 Kansas and leaves the Buffalos with a much more talented signal caller. The numbers for Kansas State remain the same: third to last in the Big 12 in points allowed, third to last in passing yards allowed and dead last in passing yards. Any way you slice it, K-State isn’t a better team than Colorado and playing at home is the only saving grace their backers can point to. Colorado is riding a wave of confidence and their new quarterback gives them an extra dimension they didn’t have before. Colorado’s offensive numbers don’t look very good but that’s because an ineffective quarterback and tough opponents in West Virginia and Texas plagued them. I got burned by a shameful performance by Texas A&M last week and maintain Kansas State isn’t a good team. Catching Colorado with points after a big win and potentially capitalizing on a potentially over-confident Kansas State team definitely warrants a play. Georgia Tech -5 I hate taking road favorites but I just can’t buy into the Wahoo’s. They have improved but I’m not sure that they will be able to contain an offensive line/running game like the Jackets bring. Vandy under 42 points REALLY couldn’t believe how much this one went up. With Vandy failing to score in SEC play more than 10 points(10,7,3,9) will they really score a lot? Even if they score 14 will South Carolina 28? Hopefully not. Okie St -9 In the last 10 years Okie St has been favored in every game but 1(which they lost). They have won by 28,31, 42, 28, 17,35, 16, 28, and 20 points in this matchup. Baylor was impressive with some good games at the beginning of the year beating WF, but how good is Wake. After seeing Baylor put up 10 points in Iowa St. last game, it will be a struggle to get this offense going that has scored 17 points in it’s last two. Was going with the under but it dropped 3 points to low for me. Penn St. -4 Just think the Penn St. D will figure out DickRod’s offense. I haven’t been impressed with this Michigan team. Texas Tech over 68 I would have taken this at 72. I think Tech hangs 50 on them and TAM will have to do the rest. Idaho +16 I have made some bank off these guys and I’m sticking with them. If they can get a couple turnovers and quick scores early they will stay in this game. If Nevada jumps out early, possibly a different story. Cincy under 56 (only if Pike doesn’t play) The new QB is good but I think they will keep it on the ground more and hopefully the O will struggle a little more. I think Cincy puts up no more than 35. Central Florida -10 They played South Miss on the road and lost by 7. They played ECU on the road and lost by 5. They have played decent ball but the O hasn’t got going. Welcome to Rice! With a banged up QB and a team that lost to the same ECU team on the road by 36 last week. Rice will have little home field advantage with most people preparing for Halloween instead of seeing this horror show in progress. Auburn under 51 Just another typical SEC/LSU slugfest. Only 1 time in 10 years has this game gone over the total. Ark St. under 59 For a team that is avg 17 ppg(if you take away their 61 points against MSVALL) on offense and is favored by 10, this is a little high. Strike Point 5-Unit Play. #313 Take Georgia Tech -5.5 over Virginia (10/24 Saturday - 12 p.m. EST) A lot see this game as a letdown for Tech, but you can throw out the first month of the season for Virginia, because the Cavs are undefeated in ACC play, and that means in this a must win for the Yellow Jackets if they want to continue their push towards the conference title and a BCS game. And so far, nearly everyone has failed to stop Paul Johnson's dynamic triple option, as he has athletes and weapons all over in this brilliant system. After running over the likes of Mississippi State, Florida State and Virginia Tech in consecutive weeks, I just cannot see Virginia doing anything either. Tech is too locked in, and in every facet of the game this team is playing so well. Lay the number, Georgia Tech comes through with another impressive ACC win. 5-Unit Play. #382 Take Kansas State -4.5 over Colorado (10/24 Saturday - 12:30 p.m. EST) This is not an overraction to the Wildcats' monster scoreline last week over Texas A&M, but simply following suit with what these two teams have shown this year. On the road this year Colorado has been one of the worst teams in the country. 0-3 away from Boulder, they have been outscored by 51 points on the road. Kansas State is 3-0 at home and have outscored opponents by 94 points in Manhattan. And let me just say the point differential this week won't be that drastic, but the success and failure on the road for Colorado and at home for Kansas State is too obvious to ignore. That, and Colorado never should have even won last week had it not been for a dropped TD pass by stud wide out Desmond Briscoe for Kansas. Touchdown victory for KSU. 5-Unit Play. #343 Take Louisiana Tech +1 over Utah State (10/24 Saturday - 3 p.m. EST) I have not seen anything all season from Utah State to think they can knock off a more than solid Bulldogs team in this WAC match-up. Louisiana Tech has responded nicely after two road losses to begin the season by winning three of their last four overall. With Ross Jenkins under center and Daniel Porter running the ball, Louisana Tech has a very nice duo in the backfield and can put up some points. And the Aggies can allow some points, giving up nearly 33 per game. The trends hold up and La Tech gets back over .500 and perhaps push towards a bowl birth just the same. 5-Unit Play. #365 Take Idaho +15.5 over Nevada (10/24 Saturday - 4:05 p.m. EST) Just cash, baby. All the Vandels have done this year is go 6-1 to start the year and cover all seven spreads in the process. And I for one don't care a bit that Nevada rung up 100 points in their last two home games in league play. Nevada hasn't played well against legit competition, so no reason to hop off the Idaho train just yet. The Wolfpack struggled against Missouri and Notre Dame, and even Colorado State, so even though Idaho is their own team, Nevada has not shown the same moxy against winning teams. Just because they are back in Reno, it doesn't automatically translate into success. Maybe this line suggests that it will, but we are not sold on that idea. Winning breeds confidence, and right now there might not be a more confidence and swagger boasting team than Idaho, and we back them again. 6-Unit Play. Game of the Month. #372 Take Toledo -2.5 over Temple (10/24 Saturday - 7 p.m. EST) The injury that has not been factored into this line is the return of Toledo's quarterback and top player Aaron Opelt. After missing essentially the last two games, expect the Rockets and the offense to get back to racking up the yards and scoring points at home. Opelt and his 14 TDs is a big time threat in the MAC and really makes this offense go. Scoring over 33 points per game at home, Toledo will be too much for a Temple team, likely minus starting running back Bernard Pierce, that is only scoring a couple of touchdowns on the road. This one could start to get ugly in the second half. Toledo by double figures. 5-Unit Play. #383 Take Iowa PK over Michigan State (10/24 Saturday - 7 p.m. EST) This isn't the week the Hawkeyes suffer their first defeat. Iowa continues to get the job done and rack up the wins. Just because it isn't pretty doesn't mean it is not effective. Iowa is 8-1 ATS in their last nine games vs. winning teams, and I am still not thoroughly convinced that the success Michigan State has had is legit enough to pull off the upset. Oregon St. was the only team to beat USC last year AT Oregon St. and that loss cost USC a shot at the national title & if you think for one second that Pete Carrol and Co. have not had this years game vs Oregon St. circled on their calendar, you are gravely mistaken IMO. The Trojan Defense is ranked in the Top 5 again this season, as they hold their opponents to a meager 2.1 yards per carry and 67 rushing yards overall per game. Matt Barkley and that USC offense looked very strong at Notre Dame last weekend, as Barkley threw for 380 yds, and USC amassed over 500 yds of offense and that offense looks very scary. I expect them to keep it going vs this Beavers defense on the road and in a VERY HOSTILE enviroment at night. I really do not see USC taking their foot off the gas pedal here & I think the Beavers are in serious trouble on Saturday Night. I look for the USC "D" to harras the Beavs all day as the Beavs allow way to many sacks (they rank 110th in the nation in sacks allowed) vs a Trojan "D" that ranks #1 in the nation in sacking the QB. USC has the team speed on defense to contain the Rodgers brothers & the pressure they will put on the Beavers offense will put Oregon St. in several 3rd and long downs, which will enable USC to get a couple turnovers and should give them a short field on a few occasions. Bottomline for me here, this is a GREAT SPOT to back USC, as they have MAJOR REVENGE going for them, they are playing AT HOME, AT NIGHT, and on NATIONAL TV, and I FULLY expect a very focused and motivated USC team, to blowout the Beavers in this spot in a Trojan MAXIMUM effort game, and this is my College Football Game of the Month Play. Last year Vandy won by 7 at home and will be facing a difficult South Carolina Defense. Both teams have great defenses and I just don’t see how South Carolina will win in a blowout. The Gamecocks have a few injuries on offense. Neither team has a powerhouse offense. This should be a defensive battle. The public is all over South Carolina. Look for a close game take Vandy. Texas -12 over Missouri Texas is 6-0 this season and want to keep their title hopes alive against a Missouri team that got to much credit to early in the season. Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert has shown he is a talent young QB, but should not be compared to Chase Daniels yet. Gabbert is playing with a hurt ankle and Texas will be looking to knock the QB out of the game for two weeks in a row. Texas has a better offense and a better defense and should win and cover with ease. Take the Longhorns. TCU -2.5 over BYU TCU brings a great rushing game and a better rushing defense into this game. Max Hall and BYU were rocked last year against TCU and I do not see that much has changed except for the face TCU is better this year then last year. TCU proved they can win big road games as they won at Virginia and Clemson this year. BYU is a great team, but they have shown flaws and have gotten to much credit for beating Oklahoma a 3-3 team. Look for TCU to play a great defensive game to get the win and cover. Stanford -6.5 over Arizona State Stanford looked as if they were going to compete for the PAC 10 Title, but has faded in the past few weeks and now are just trying to make a bowl game. Make now mistake about it, Stanford is for real and will play well at home. Arizona State rocked the Cardinals two years in a row yet are a decent size underdog. What's that tell you? If the Cardinals make a bowl game they will have to win tonight. Take the Cardinals. (Balfe is 2-1 on the week in NCAA after his loss on Army tonight. I look for him to have a big day. OSU Defense is still very strong and they will show it this week against a hapless Gopher offense that has not td passes in last two games and are ranked 114th nationally on offense. Buckeyes having some offensive problems of their own but will make it right this week. Tressel won't let them quit and Pryor is fresh off the couch after his counseling session with King James. Plus the public has done us a big favor and bet this line down to where it makes total sense to jump back on the Buckeyes. 10 Dime Virginia Tech has the sperior offense in this game but as we all know it is on the ground which is a huge difference than if it were through the air. Virginia has the better defense by far!!!! The Cavs offensively have struggled early on learning their new offense but is showing significant signs of improvement of late. Tech is coming off of a huge program win over VA TCH last week and that is what the public is seeing and betting on but Virgina is very tough at home and has the D to stop Tech in this low scoring game. 10 Dime Kansas Injuries to two key offensive players will limit Ok offense in this one. Both Bradford and Murray, their all world RB will be missing from this game. OK strength in their defense andd they are still relatively stout there, however Kansas has some major offensive weapons of their own in this game in QB Ressing and a great set of wideouts and a good rushing attack thst is healthy for the first time this year. BRYAN LEONARD'S LINE MOVER TOTAL DOMINATION 333/334 Ball State at Eastern Michigan The Cardinals have struggled offensively all season surpassing 19 points just twice all year. But upon closer inspection we see that in those two games they averaged just 3.5 and 3.9 yards per play. Now starting quarterback Kelly Page is out for the season with a thumb injury and fifth year senior Tanner Justice takes over. Justice enters this game with a disappointing quarterback rating of 88.88 with a 0 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio. Ball State has a freshman signal caller Aaron Mershman who would normally be the backup but coach Parrish doesn't want to take off his redshirt. Therefore if Justice gets injured the team will go to the Wildcat offense in which they haven't attempted a pass this season. That means plenty of running the football and taking time off the clock. Eastern Michigan is also down to a backup signal caller and as expected they have struggled to put points on the board since starter Andy Schmitt was lost for the season. They were going with last years backup Kyle McMahon but last week they played some with freshman Alex Gillett behind center. Neither of the two backups has thrown a touchdown pass this season and we would really expect English to be conservative here. Considering that in the last three games they have scored 6, 8 and 12 points he doesn't have many options. Defensively the Eagles are improving and they are really stepping down in class this week. After facing the likes of Michigan and Central Michigan on their schedule they finally face a team they can match up against. Ball State's defense has struggled all year mostly because they continue to let the opposition start drives with excellent starting field position. But that likely won't be the case this week as Eastern Michigan simply doesn't have the offensive talent to exploit this weak Ball State secondary. The Cardinals are allowing 8.37 yards per pass attempt but the Eagles only produce 4.18 yppa and that included Andy Schmidt making the calls. With two teams desperate for a victory and both playing backup signal callers we look for very conservative game plans. Lots of running the football and keeping turnovers to a minimum. That keeps the clock ticking and provides us with a quick game.

Georgia Tech will look to go on the road and win as favorites and I think they do so by a TD. The key has been Josh Nesbitt and this rushing offense featuring Dwyer, Allen, and Roddy Jones along with the very big and physical Damaryous Thomas catching the few passed thrown his way to keep any defense honest. Virginia has made a nice run lately winning 3 in a row after opening 0-3. This is the team that lost to William and Mary, but now Al Groh has them back on track. I'm not buying it though because their last three opponents average offense is 90th combined and here they will now face the 31st ranked offense. So is this defense for Virginia as good as they have looked or a product of who they have played this season an average offense ranked at 65th? I'd say it's a little bit of both, but the weakness seems to be against the run and they will have their hands full at home against Georgia Tech. Virginia is definitely an improved team, but not enough to stay with Georgia Tech who has been getting it done on offense all year long against quality opponents. What is worst for Virginia is their 107th ranked offense they can't run and they can't pass and Jameel Sewell their QB has a banged up ankle and will be chased around by Morgan who has 7.5 sacks this year. Virginia is ranked 118th in the nation in sacks allowed.
