A couple thoughts/theories and ramblings: Spoiler 1. the elevator scanners aren’t real. It’s obvious melicheck thought Dylan took the card home. If the scanners worked, he’d know that wasn’t the case. Also, mark brings the keycard down 2. we’ve only seen the one security guard who is now dead, melicheck and corbel as the non-severed employees on the floor. Dead guy was out looking for the person who un-severed Peter, and melicheck said corbel didn’t know about the OT drill on Dylan. Who were the two people who through the two switches on Dylan while melicheck was at his house? 3. How did Gemma/ms Casey end up severed? If she agrees to be severed, did they fake the death or severe her after accident and mark didn’t know? Was she brain dead and dontated body to science/donate organs and lumen took her? If mark severed himself to be with her, then he’d remember that on the outside, unless - mark was severed before the accident (but tht doesn’t line up with what’s been said so far) 4. everything in this show has been shown to happen for a reason/foreshadowing: mark apologizing to ms Casey, corbel asking his sister if mark ever thinks he sees his wife, etc. a few things that I think are important, but haven’t shown back up yet: - melicheck told helly after she went through the door to the stairwells that it was a miracle she agreed to be severed. Think she is part of the family -the senator’s wife being severed. But she knew her kids names. - helly saying everything was a lie there 5. corbel wants to prove you can be un-severed. She intentionally used Gemma’s candle when mark had his therapy with ms Casey my theory is this is a huge experiment and the chip doesn’t turn on and off memory from work/severed floor. Instead it alters your memories/what you see. I don’t think the “real world” is real and is still altered for the severed. Mark’s sister sees the real world as it truly is. the goats were not goats but actual humans. The maze like floor they work on is not actually a maze.
that whole scene seemed manufactured but I guess she really did kill him so idk. edit - I thought you meant the dr in the beginning. didn’t his sister set him up with Alexa? not saying that rules it out.
We’re catching up on the last 4 weeks (watched ep 6 last night) and holy shit are we enjoying the show. Not reading the thread since we’re behind, but I’m so excited to see where this goes
Spoiler When he had his thumb on the photo I was convinced it was about to be a Helly reveal. Would have been more impactful but still cool its Mrs Casey. Sets up for him falling for Helly later and finding out about Gemma/Mrs Casey
I think he's just your typical self-help fraud grifter. I also think him reading from his book played over scenes is laugh out loud funny. I just imagine Stiller and Scott laughing their asses off writing those scenes.
What is it to fail? My failure to break into the literary world in my 20s was devastating, yet it taught me a vital lesson. That it was not me who was wrong, but literature itself. And that to truly find my place in that world, I would first need to break it entirely. And so I did. A society with festering workers cannot flourish, just as a man with rotting toes cannot skip. What separates man from machine is that machines cannot think for themselves. Also, they are made of metal, whereas man is made of skin. If you are a soldier, do not fight for my freedom. Fight for the freedom of the soldier fighting next to you. This will make the war more inspiring for you both. A good person will follow the rules. A great person will follow himself. Bullies are nothing but Bull and Lies. At the center of "Industry" is "Dust." They cannot crucify you if your hand is in a fist. Should you find yourself contorting to fit a system, dear reader, stop and ask if it's truly you that must change or the system.
And this will likely be the catalyst for why things change. also, still trying to wrap my head around Marks wife. Is she only an innie at this point?
She said she was only awake for 107 hours total, so if she is only an innie, what is she doing the rest of the time?
Maybe they pretended to kill her in the outside world and she just goes to the “test room” where they shut her down somehow. It’s not like an innie would have any clue into that.
I posted a few weeks ago that I don’t think the severance is turning your memory on and off while at work. It’s actually used to change your perception of what’s going on around you. I wonder if things are on a testing loop and this has happened over and over again.
I don’t think what is really happening is their memory is turning on/off in the elevator. Instead, I think the chip is modifying what they are experiencing and making them experience what they want them to experience For example, I don’t think those were actually baby goats they saw I also think this may be a testing loop and they’ve gone through this before. Irving remembers the elevator to the testing floor because he’s been there several times. It’s a loop to test the chip. Maybe each time they get further/better results, then wipe and start over
I also think it’s odd that innie Dylan knows what a milf is but doesn’t remember his kid. There’s more to the chip than a simple on/off during work the whole town is a simulation or experiment even outside of the office
I think the chip severs personal information and not just general knowledge as evidenced by Helly easily naming Delaware but being unable to recall her mother's eye color. Dylan would be familiar with the term.
No, but imagine what the actual cliffhanger at the end of ep 9 will be if they didn’t use this one (assuming there is one, I have no advance info)
This really is the most fun I’ve had watching a show since breaking bad, so glad it’s picking up another season.
Good interview with the creator of the show. SIAP https://annehelen.substack.com/p/the-feast-of-severance
Was that the shortest episode of the series? I want to go back and see all the other things told to the innies during their sessions Spoiler “Your outie likes the sound of radar” - Irv’s dog is radar
