Anyone else loving this show? Netflix has been killing it with these UK coming of age stories like End of the F***ing World and this.

I’m a couple episodes in. It’s funny at times but the characters act in very irrational ways sometimes which drives me insane.

I will keep watching for Maeve though. :lovelove:

Makes no sense for Adam to stand on the table and show everyone his dick, even if he was Amelia Bedlia-ing Otis’s advice.

Adam not giving a fuck about school but immediately asking Otis what time he should come over to do their project.

Every kid in the school immediately opening up to Otis about their deepest darkest sex secrets and embracing therapy after laughing at him for his Mom’s job.

The entire relationship between Otis and his mom (and her many fuck buddies).

Maeve’s total 180 on Otis for no other reason than just being his lab partner and being asked to check on him?

I’m still enjoying it, just have to view it like you’re watching Big Mouth and not The Breakfast Club.

I'm having a hard time believing that Otis is having an internal struggle picking between a girl that looks Margot Robbie and one that looks like Landy Shamet. Get it together, man.

<3 Eric, happy to see him having an easier season.

I forgot that this show had a 2nd season so I finally watched it last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and it reminded me how good the young cast is, and how committed the show is to positive diverse portrayals of teenagers and their sexuality.
I'm not ashamed to say there were some feels with Maeve and her mom, and when the girls rallied around Aimee.
Also knowing all along that the "shakespeare" production was going to be over the top ridiculous it was hilarious watching it unfold.
    Glad they're doing more.

Another great season. Hopefully we don't have to wait as long for the 4th. I should have watched some kind of recap before watching this season because there were a couple times where I was lost when something from a previous season was referred to.

I actually didn't end up watching the majority of the season until last night.

I am just endlessly amazed by this show and particularly the casting. There isn't a lousy performance to be found here. Everyone is spectacular and every character is totally worthy of their screen time.

I will say that I was bothered with the over-the-top'ness of the Hope character. Granted she's responding to some pretty over-the-top shit but - really? That cheapened it some for me.

But still, just top flight television here.

    Can't wait for more.

I was hoping to get a little more about her because it seemed like there was more there than just "ultra-conservative alumna returns to alma mater to clean up degeneracy."

I had a bad taste in my mouth from her just because of her former TV show, Girls

I didn't even read her as ultra-conservative, and she certainly didn't appear to be of that mold when she is initially introduced. I read her as trying to protect the school and appease the donors, but in a way that is wholly dishonest with respect to the students and even staff (who it seems never have any idea what they are actually up against.) I honestly think she's lying a bit whenever she rants at the kids about the "real world" and what not - that's just what she feels the need to say to get the conformity she thinks will save the place. But whatever the case about her character, the actions she takes are extreme enough to assault my suspension of disbelief.

I just binged the entire series after mistakenly watching the first three eps of season three without realizing it. It seemed weird to me why everything was assumed, so I stopped watching. I realized my mistake last week and then I couldn’t stop watching. Definitely weird experience to start over knowing that Otis would be with Ruby and Eric would be with Adam, and watching season three initially not understanding the friction between Otis and Maeve. Of course you have to suspend disbelief, but I had no issue with most of it, because I enjoyed the drama and comedy that arose. Highlights for me were the cat scene and the shit scene in season three for sure.

Also Eric and Otis relationship is one of the most unique relationships I have ever seen in tv/film. The fact that they are best friends and really have no one else even close is amazing and feels very original. In fact, the way they deal with gender and sexuality in this show is quite impressive, although not the real world. The fact that they remove most bullying, while not entirely realistic helps normalize and allow you to see a better vision for how everyone can be more accepting. It should be, but it just isn’t in our puritanical society. I really enjoy seeing it and I hope it will help people get more comfortable overall.

I am also really surprised this thread is not more popular now that I’ve watched it.

I hate that this is the last season but it kind of had to be. Strong run. I think maybe this season was great in parts and really dipped in other parts- hard to introduce all those new characters for just one season.

I understand the ending and that it is the most realistic way for it to end but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hate the end result.

Holy crap that was a rough season. The amount of issues they packed in and had to resolve were just brutal. I’m not saying that in a bad way, but it did feel a bit rushed. I think the ending worked, but my god I felt the show did Otis dirty. Even the way Ruby rejected his friendship, because she wanted more, felt cold as hell. I liked that they wrapped things up well with Eric but a lot of that does feel unsustainable, because they still didn’t address their differences and issues. I really didn’t think he owed his mom an apology either. He genuinely didn’t seem to come first to her a lot of the times, and that felt unresolved and she really did mess with his relationships.

Overall, it is pretty impressive how progressive this show was and how it forced you to realize how many different types of people and relationships there are. I just don’t like walking away with what felt like a gut punch even though I get that it is not the wrong outcome.

This show needed US length seasons, not the UK 8 show limit.

Yeah the end was totally a gut punch for Otis but the whole point of the show is that this is education/growth for him. I wanted him to jump on a plane to the US because that’s the type of selfless sacrifice no one has ever made for Maeve, but truly that is fairy tale stuff. Of course, where else can you see fairy tale stuff but on tv, but they clearly wanted this to be more real.

I thought the ruby interaction was great. She was back to her normal self- outwardly a bitch, but most likely soft in the middle and a good person when push comes to shove. I even think Otis had a wry smile when she said she had enough friends again, because she was back and he was good with her being herself again.

Whole season felt like something they did out of obligation. I don’t understand why they spent so much time introducing new characters that you were going to say goodbye to in a few episodes.

This season was a huge step down from the others. Introducing all of the new characters was a mistake and it wasn’t nearly as funny as previous seasons.

I got to this last season super late and just finished it.
I thought the O-war was particularly annoying and tough to get through, and I wasn't thrilled with random metaphysical shit popping into Eric's arc, but otherwise the season was very enjoyable. Otis being variously stupid also got on my nerves more - extremely insightful for others but can't stop stepping on his own dick in his own life. Loved him blowing up at his mom over the Maeve thing when he had basically told her the same thing anyway.

How fun was it to watch Adam's family come together?

It's hard to watch all the Cal stuff and not burn with rage over the politics of the trans issues in our country.

    Anyway, gonna miss it.
