this is my problem. why the fuck did we have a whole story arc with Gavin and him teaming up and then Gavin leaving town.. only be back exactly where we started.
The phone replacements also likely never happened with the hostage situation. Overlooked help perhaps
Yeah I figured the solution would be with Gavin back in charge they would make the software update and everything would be fine. Would make more sense.
I feel like they bait and switch too much. The dropping of the papers last season (or the one before), the Gavin/Richard teamup for 2 episodes, even the Dinesh suicide bomber joke. They set things up and just let them go away.
i'm not sure i see how the suicide bomber joke fits here. that was just a throwaway joke. unless you were expecting him to blow himself up, then disappointed when he didn't (?). i agree with your main point here, but maybe it's just too early still for me to understand what you're saying here.
I guess I just thought "oh man this is going to be good" to them just pretty much abandoning any real usage of it.
I just hope next season is a bit of a redemption for Richard. he was completely unlikable this season and that's not really something I want from the main character of a comedy. and it wasn't even unlikable in a Saul Goodman sense where you know he's a scumbag but there's a charm that makes you root for him despite his actions. he was just a total dick with very few redeeming qualities. the way he just shit on the other guys is probably what bothered me the most.
If the rumors that Middleditch is a bit of an asshole are true I could see the writers falling into the personal trap and making his character more and more shitty.
Couldn't agree more. He's the main character and if you are going to be a bad guy at least make him somewhat funny. Selena Meyer isn't a good person but she's hilarious.
If the app is what had the code when they got the new hoolie phones wouldn't the app just be in the cloud and wouldn't it just automatically download to the new phone?
Finally got caught up on the last 3 episodes of the season. This season sucked, they should probably just wrap the show up with one final season and try to make it not suck. The funniest part of the show was Jian Yang and Big Head. Erlich is gone so Jian Yang's whole schtick is pretty much done. Fuck, that was disappointing.
I agree that the almost successful then crash cycle has to end. I think the show could work with them being successful and building a company but they'll have to change how the character dynamics work at some level. That's the only way to continue the show. I'll stop watching if there is another season of the same thing.
same. there is absolutely no way they wouldn't have just told him to fuck off after all the stupid crap he did this season.
There are going to be 2 more seasons so I figure I'll ride it out almost no matter what at this point.
Gilfoyle and Dinesh alone are probably enough to keep me tuning in for 30 minutes a week. hope they find a way to bounce back to their old form though.
Yeah it's a quick and easy watch. Worst case I probably will stop watching every Sunday night and binge on a slow weekend, but I'm not going to totally bail at this point.
i thought i clicked the veep thread, and i read the bolded sentence and i was about to internet fight you. but yeah, i agree, although i am hopeful this departure sorta gets them going in the right direction, so we'll see what next year brings
That was good but I don't think he got the point of safe falling out of a window. His way was probably funnier tho.
Have to agree...the show's most hilarious characters are all the ancillary ones. Big Head, Jin Yang, Lori, etc. You guys are getting too caught up in the story, tech accuracy, and other BS. The show is made by the same guy that created Beavis and Butthead after all...
Yeah until this thread i didn't realize there was any debate about the actual story line. Most times i dont even remember what was happening with the plot. I tune in, laugh a lot at Jared, Gilfoyle, and Dinesh, then forget about it for a week.
It used to have both. I still like t as a comedy, but this season wasn't in the "best show on TV" arena that it was the first three seasons. Definitely not as bad as people are making it out to be.
Agree I still looked forward to it but not as good as previous. Just like The Americans for me this year.
It's still funny it's just that the plot is tired at this point. The fact that the fridges saved them this year is incredibly disappointing. I definitely still like it and will watch it until the series is done. But I wish they'd let them be successful and get rich or let them fail. Stop trying to do both.
Just caught up. Really agree that the failing-and-then-falling-ass backward-into-being-saved cycle has to end. It's a comedy show, so the plot doesn't have to be bullet-proof, all it has to do is be semi-coherent and not get stale. It's definitely going the latter's direction.
Also I would imagine that the cycle will end somehow and they'll take the show in a new direction. Hate to see it, but viewers for season 4 were cut in half from the first 3 seasons which were really stable.
Started binge-watching on Friday, on s4-ep2 now. Have never seen a bigger collection of inept morons. It is one giant train wreck that I can not look away from.
“well don’t congratulate me, congratulate Ed Chambers”. Jared steals the scene in most scenes he is in. Fucking hilarious.
I'm going back and rewatching the Office and it's so hard watching his character and not picturing Ed. "That pussy Jared keep you on hold long?"
What is hilarious to me is that everyone on the show says he is hands down the funniest guy on set. He plays that character so well.
Really dig how pretty much every episode they have ratcheted up his crazy just a hair. I fully expect him to have a complete meltdown and cook every member of the team on a grill for the show finale.
